it would be an entirely different matter if the ground was in perpetual earthquake for the last 250 million or so years, but given the way human physiology works, combining mass/strength endeavors with 'stability' endeavors doesn't yield much of either

not sure what you mean up there, but...

people I've seen, even using low weight, have seen tremendous gains on athleticism from using stabilizing balls (usually they're smaller). the stuff works, but I wouldn't try doing a squat on a bouncy ball like that guy did. that's taking it over the edge into the land of ridiculousness.

beginners and weak/small people make huge gains doing anything. the rules change once you hit the intermediate/advanced stages. in those stages, stability balls are very rarely used by anybody who knows what they're doing, and when they are used it's for low intensity/recovery purposes.

are you talking about medicine balls perhaps?

also if youre confused about my reference to 250 million years or so it has to do with the evolution of human physiology, and that our systems are not meant to thrive on unstable surfaces. the CNS and musculature just doesn't achieve the kinds of results under the 'weird' stimulus from something like stability balls as it does from standard 'normal' exercises. but like i said anybody will see neuromuscular improvements by doing just about anything if the net result is an increase in energy output

i went to the gym early today.. maybe 2-3ish.. a few observations:

1) lots of hot HS-collegeish aged women. seriously wtf. i didn't know where to start really so i just did my workout, chalked my hands a bit, made a few grunts and mean faces and got out of there.

on the flip side of this, there were also many douchebag HS-collegeish douchebags (yes, i needed to say it twice) up there. if the idiot walking RIGHT in front of me while i was doing power cleans wasn't bad enough, the even bigger idiot macking on what was clearly his very hot girlfriend put me in a steaming cauldron of rage.

2) i did some leg presses at the end of my workout. there happened to be another leg press right next to it, very close. the father son circus was going on there. i've seen the dad make this kid do the worst back rounded, shaky jerky deadlifts ive ever seen in my life. anyway i'm leg pressing and the kid bumps the weight rack thingy which, to say the least, did not please me.

i kept it calm though and after i finished my set and the moronic dad was on the other leg press giving instructions to his observing son, i calmly and quietly asked the son to try to be a little more careful and give more room to lifters in the future. son was cool about it, dad not so much. he kinda snapped, i started laughing and made a few sarcastic comments, and i got the hell out of there before i buried his face into the ground.

the end, i hope nobody was expecting anything to happen

Some guy on this bmw forum I post on has a dinan m5 (disgustingly fast bmw for those not in the know.) His plates are LOL AMG (amg is mercedes benz' in house tuning department, their equivalent to bmw's m)

They mentioned the permafrost beginning to melt which hold about 100 years worth of current emissions, but probably other ones like the effects of reduced arctic ice, reduced ocean absorption of carbon, etc

My wife and I are replacing our fence. We got our first bid on Saturday.

This morning I awoke at 7am to a bunch of banging in what seemed to be my back yard. I have the summer off (it's awesome being a teacher), so this pissed me off like you wouldn't believe. I got up to see what the hell was going on out there, and found that a fence company was replacing our neighbor's fence (we share a 120-ft long/6-ft high fence with her).

Needless to say, I was no longer pissed. I no longer have to pay for that portion of a new fence. So by waking up this morning (and not starting the fence project two weeks ago like I had hoped), I made/saved at the very least $1500. Woot.

to be honest, global warning/climate change is one issue that i feel completely ignorant and uneducated on. of course that describes most people fairly well, but it doesn't stop them from starting with their conclusion (depending on if they are liberal or conservative), then googling for an article that suits their agenda.
