Her Grandfather? It's funny how you're giving a lecture about racism, while using an individual old person as a measure of how racist Japan as a nation is.

I heard "Osaka" and when I saw her I was WTF as well.
Yup, me too. She's still smoking hot though. Half Jap half black works for me.

And yes, she has every reason to complain. She was whitewashed in that cartoon. This is straight out of the Jim Crow era.
But she didn't complain, at least I don't think she did. I hope she doesn't, I hope she rises above it.

Yeah, they mostly teach that if your daughter marries a gaijin, disown her.
They? Are you steroetyping an entire race of people again here based on the actions of a few old folk with outdated views?

That particular cartoon was racist though. Note the whitewashing of Osaka
Yet it's Serena throwing a tantrum.

And why does Serena have to look like fucking Donkey Kong?
Because Serena looks like fucking Donkey Kong.

If he'd drawn her as 'butch', as in muscular, no-one would argue with that characterization of her.

It was because he drew her like a stomping ape that it's offensive.

And you agreeing with her looking like a stomping ape makes you look just as bad. I guess your defense is "well, i don't think i'm being racist so therefore I'm not", but that's pretty lame imo.

So it's ok for Jack to use language like "fucking Donkey Kong" but not me?

If she was white and butch, would it be racist to depict her as an albino gorilla?

Way I see it, it's her being butch that is the subject of mockery. I couldn't give a fuck if she's black or white, it's those accusing me of racism that have this obsession with skin colour. Funny that.

Jack said 'the cartoonist made her look like DK'

You said 'she does look like DK'

    BIG difference.

No, because white people aren't compared to apes by racists, black people are. Or are you still pretending there's no history of that ever happening?

Pointing out that you saying something that's racist and/or bigoted is racist and/or bigoted is hardly an 'obsession'. It only happens when you do it, which seems to be often. Maybe that's why you think we're all obsessed.

Stop and think before you speak once in awhile and you won't have to keep denying you're a racist or bigot just because you say racist and/or bigoted things.

You see a stomping ape. Maybe you should ask who's being racist.

I see a butch black throwing a tantrum.

Slight misrep. Jack asked why she was drawn like DK. I answered because she looks like DK. That's an observation, not discrimination. If a butch black woman throws a tantrum, chance are she'll look like DK.

No, because white people aren't compared to apes by racists, black people are. Or are you still pretending there's no history of that ever happening?
So? Some people call whites "devils". So... if someone draws a picture of me with horns, are they being racist? What if I was acting like a cunt?

That'd be easier to believe if you stopped saying racist and/or bigoted things.
Your idea of racism is far removed from what racism actually is. I've said it many, many times. I have no sense of superiority over black people. Serena is my equal, regardless of her colour, gender, or talent. That means she doesn't get any special treatment from me when people mock her for being a cunt.

Pointing out that you saying something that's racist and/or bigoted is racist and/or bigoted is hardly an 'obsession'.
It is obsession. You hold me to a different standard than Jack, and you wouldn't give a fuck if I was saying things you find offensive towards a white person.

Stop and think before you speak once in awhile and you won't have to keep denying you're a racist or bigot just because you say racist and/or bigoted things.

First, you said Japanese people don't get worked up about racism, and then added that they are a superior race.

Second, you said Serena looks like a stomping ape.

And when you're called out on it, rather than examine yourself and what words you're using, you try to claim everyone else is the racist, not you. Lame.

Further, it was Jack who used the term "fucking Donkey Kong". I merely agreed.

If Jack said "fucking nigger", well you'd surely accept he shouldn't say that. Why use the phrase "fucking Donkey Kong" when he knows it's racially charged? Why not just say ape to remain on safe ground? He chose to use racially charged language.

Because that's what in the cartoon. They drew her exactly like they would draw fucking Donkey Kong.

    What? Does not compute.

There are so many ways to draw Serena, and yet they chose to draw her that way. If the language I chose to describe the cartoon was racially charged, do you not believe that may be because the content of the cartoon is racially charged therefore describing it is going to be racially charged, no matter what?

The did draw her like a big stomping ape. The other black girl in the cartoon who IRL didn't do anything, they drew her like a white blonde. Without (Or with only very slight) exaggerated features. That's the entire problem, i.e. the dogwhistle.

To be fair, not too many people get worked up if you treat someone nicely for whatever reasons.

There are different levels of racism, and they're not equal.

A brown-skinned person saying, "They guy wont want to do that, 'cause he has brown skin like me" is text-book racism. They're making statements about how someone will behave based solely on skin color. However, there is no negativity there, so it's not likely that anyone crying racism is going to get any attention.

A loud-mouth on the bus ride home yesterday was yelling, "I'm taking all shit from white people today." I was the only white person on the bus, and I was in a good mood, so I turned to face him and I said, "Well, I hope you don't have to take any." his response, "You better stay in your lane." IDK exactly what that means, but I guess he was saying, "Don't be out-of-line," so I clarified, "you said you're taking shit from white people. I hope no white people give you any shit today." He says, "Look. I don't like white people." So I respond with, "Well, I'm sorry 'bout that; I'm in your space." And I just ignored him the rest of the ride. He left me alone after that.

    Was that a racist exchange?
He said he doesn't like white people, sure. But he wasn't being aggressive about it. He was saying, "I'm not going to get worked up over racist shit today." His whole point was that he was going to ignore it.

The world is complicated. Plenty of people want to be better tomorrow than they are today. I think that guy was one of them. I hope that being a white person whom wasn't any threat to him and whom respected his space helps in the long run. It certainly didn't hurt me for him to say he doesn't like white people while treating me with respect.

While you meant well and it turned out fine, I'm not sure engaging with someone yelling on a bus is a good idea. What if he's mentally ill, and looking for an excuse to bop someone on the nose?

Then I get bopped on the nose. I'm not living in fear of bopped noses.

He was yelling, but not being rude. He seemed to be in a good mood, and wanted attention. That played into my decision to respond.
I've lived in this city for most of my life and I'm nowhere near an expert on street smarts, but I have enough of a grasp to know that this person wasn't acting like he was looking for a fight.

There are different levels of racism indeed.

This particular dude was lowkey racist. Probably also ignorant. I'll never understand the general "I don't like x people", like every person from x group is the same.

But he kept to himself. He didn't act on his racism. E.g. he wasn't calling you derogatory slurs and generally left you alone.

That is 100% not "as racist as it gets," ong.

I mostly agree that it was racist, but I'd think you of all people would appreciate him expressing his preferences is not the same as him oppressing anyone.
He was yelling in general, attracting everyone's attention, but he didn't change his tone when speaking to me. I didn't sense any disrespect from him aside from - maybe - his assumption that I was acting "out of line" (if that's what he meant). I said a sentence and maybe he was expecting me to harass him, but I didn't, and he didn't harass me, either.

Sure, it was a bit racist, but not in a criminal or hurtful way. Not from my perspective, anyway.

If I say, "I am only attracted to women, 'cause men are ugly," that's not really sexism is it? It's just me expressing that I'm straight.
  22. #22
Do you really think saying "I don't like whites" is the same as saying "I'm not homosexual"?

Are you trying to outtroll me?

Granted, "as racist as it gets" is overkill, Hitler was certainly more racist. But not liking an entire race of people because, well, skin colour, that is more than "a bit racist". Don't get me wrong, that dude has every right to not like someone for whatever reason he likes. But if his reason is because of skin colour, he is most definitely racist.

I mean poop thinks I'm racist because I think a butch black woman throwing a tantrum looks like, in Jack's words, fucking Donkey Kong. It's as if saying mean things is worse than actually disliking someone for no reason other than race. I don't like Serena because she's a cunt, it has nothing to do with race. I haven't got anything against her sister. Is Venus a gobshite? Is she throwing tantrums and accusing everyone who dares to challenge her of being sexist and/or racist? Is she on Twitter shotuing about wimmin's bloody rights? Not thaat I'm aware of. So she's not a cunt.

I judge people based on how much they annoy me. Not a shred of racism.

No. I'm trying to bring a bit of nuance to the discussion.

I'm saying that I find it hard to pay as much attention to a man as I do to a woman. Women are more attractive to me in general, and I find it easier to maintain eye-contact with women than with men. That feels to me like I'm not treating people equally, despite their differences not being based on their choices. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm saying it's on the spectrum of differential treatment.

    Maybe it's a bad example.

Let's ignore the whole sexism thing and just latch onto the fact that there is a spectrum of racism and not all racism is necessarily harmful.
To wit, if your belief that Japanese people are superior leads you to be respectful to Japanese people, then not too many people would be hurt by that.

In a text-book way, I agree, but in a "harm was caused / people were denied rights" kind of way, I disagree.

Even if people know you personally, if you say those things in a public forum, then you'll be heard by more people than just those whom know you well.

Fine, you said something that was harmless, given your intended meanings of those words. We can all be grown-up enough to disregard our first impressions and take you on your expounded meanings. It's silly to expect that you wont have to explain yourself further when you appropriate words for a new use, given their history.

Of course people are denied rights. How would a black person feel if I said to his face that I don't like black people? He would feel offended, and rightfully so. We would sit here and talk about how a black person has the right to go about his business without being subject to such comments. Why is this any different?

I'm not making such claims. I remind you again, I was not the one who made the DK analogy, I merely acknowledged it as apt.

Can you be any more disingenuous?

Jack was saying it as a complaint, as in "it's racist to make a black person look like Donkey Kong."

You were saying "She does look like Donkey Kong." As in, "I think she does look like a stomping ape, and so it's fine to depict her that way."

This whole 'no, it's everyone else who's racist' act is as about as weary as banana's 'I want an intelligent discussion' act. Just admit you chose your words thoughtlessly and move on.

My point is NOT that you're a racist. It's that you've used racially charged language, and you know that history and you still chose those words, so you're really giving off a racist vibe, even if you don't personally endorse racism.

This is racist ongabonga. This is one of the oldest racist stereotypes there is.

Serena IRL does not look like a fucking monkey, and if you think so, then you are a (lowkey) racist

Here's a CNN link on the story. Unsurprisingly, it has a lot more detail than a Twitter feed.

Nah it's really not, Jack. It's just what you think racism is.

The dude on mojo's bus... that's what racism is. If mojo were black, and the other dude white, you'd be in agreement on that matter, and would probably see it as a lot more concerning than the idea that a butch black woman smashing her racquet on the floor is akin to a stomping ape.

"Jews as rats. Native Americans as savages. Mexicans as animals. Blacks as apes."

You're reading right out of the racist playbook here. You don't get to re-define the language as you see fit just because you happen to dislike Williams.

LOL what is it with white people jumping at every opportunity to say the N-word? Is it like cool to say it or what? Does it make you edgy, using it in examples? Like oooo

No, I said she was drawn like DK, you said that's because she looks like DK. There's a big difference in these statements. Would you agree?
Sure there's a difference. But I was using your language. You looked at an image of Serena and thought "fucking Donkey Kong", not me.

So you're asking me to treat Jack differently because he's black? Sorry, no, I'm not racist.

Also, you're being disingenuous now. I remember using the word "injun", and the context was me asking you if it's offensive, which actually surprised me, since it has no negative connotations here at all.

Turns out the umpire who Serena accused of being sexist and racist also hates white male Croats. He gave Marin Cilic a code violation, too, for smashing his racquet. What a hater. Why can't he let people throw tantrums? Anyone would think it's his job to maintain some sort of order on the court.

Smashing your racquet usually gets a code violation call. The fact he gave Cilic one here means pretty much nothing.

Teh whole Serena thing is actually her being the most awful person in existance and getting away with it because she is the GOAT and black and female.

It's very similar to why Venus williams is allowed to murder.

Literally the only argument that isn't retarded is that men may get away with slightly more violations (i.e. being cunts) than women on court. If this was true (and enough has shown it isn't) the argument would be stop men being cunts nto women tenis players should get more allowance on being cunts.

The cartoon is actually interesting as the whole exaggerated comic style comes across as massively racist because of the history when in reality it's just the over the top cartoonish persona that is being dealt with. I have little sympathy for the person drawing the comic though as it's just a huge lack of awareness.

I'd be inclined to say the cartoonist was being deliberately provocative, rather than ignorant. I just don't think it's racist.

It's not discrimination. I imagine the cartoonist would have exaggerated the features of whoever he was drawing. It's tabloid crap.

Some more Russians have fallen ill in Salisbury, too.

The poisoning of a Pussy Riot member... that could totally be the Kremlin. I know they're not a nice bunch of people. But the Salisbury thing... it makes no sense. I mean the images of the guys going through the turnstiles... they were taken at excatly the same time. Exactly. The turnstile appears to be the same one in both images, but even if it's not, that some serious choreography.

The two suspects appeared on Russian TV to say they were just tourists who happened to take a weekend trip from Moscow to see Salisbury Cathedral.

    Doesn't sound fishy at all.
  62. #62
You do also realise that many, many people take weekend trips away?

Here's something fishy... after they allegedly smeared Novichok on the Skirpal's doorknob, they went into Salisbury and were caught on CCTV window shopping, without a care in the world. That's a pretty convincing getaway, if you ask me. It's what I'd do. I'd just hang around and wait for shit to hit the fan, rather than do one asap and get back to Russia for debriefing.

They say they couldn't go to Stonehenge because of snow. Twitter exploded into a frenzy, saying there was no snow in Salisbury on the 3rd of March. For proof, there were photos of Salisbury city centre on the 4th March with no snow. Let's ignore the drifs on the outskirts. Let's forget the fact that Stonehenge's Twitter feed still has a tweet telling people not to come to Stonehenge on the 3rd of March because of snow. They were lying.

They were seen on CCTV 500 meters from the Skirpals' house, walking along an A-road. That's as close as they were seen there.

There is no evidence at all to suggest they were involved, or at least nothing in the public domain that is compelling.

What do you know that I don't?

What's fishy about it? I don't know if you're aware, but Salisbury Cathedral attracts visitors from all over the world. Are you suggesting that two male Russians could not have a historical interest in architecture? They also wanted to go to Stonehenge, which, in case you haven't heard of it, is a World Heritage Site, thousands of years old.

I assume you haven't actually read up on it, because if you had, you wouldn't find tourists doing touristy things to be fishy, rather you'd think it was fishy that the Skirpals turned their phones off and drove out of Salisbury, before the "tourists" arrived in Salisbury. CCTV caught the Skirpals leaving Salisbury, but didn't see them return, even though they must have, because otherwise they couldn't have got poisoned.

The official story if fishy as fuck. The tourists' story is, well, reasonable.

The next day they accept they may have been close to the house of Sergei Skripal, the former Russian spy, at the time his home was sabotaged with nerve agent,
The timeline the police have released makes little sense. They arrive around 11.50. By this time, the Skirpals had been seen leaving their house, and were not seen returning for several hours. And they were 500 meters away on an A-road. There must be a fuck ton of suspects if that's fishy.

    Why such a short stay?
Because the weather was fucking awful. What's that? Russians deterred by weather? Yep, because at home in winter they would have the right clothing. In Salisbury, they were dressed casually.

“We wanted to walk around the city but since the whole city was covered with snow, we spent only 30 minutes there,” said Petrov. “We were all wet.” He added: “It didn’t work out because of the slush. The whole city was covered with slush.” Petrov said they returned to the station and spent around 40 minutes there drinking coffee in the station cafe. “We were drenched up to our knees,” added Boshirov.
The slush they refer to was sleet.

There was snow on the ground but people were going about their business. The Salisbury Journal’s live blog showed that by the time the pair were there the snow on city centre pavements was sparse.
Sparse. Yeah,t hat's what sleet is. In the city, where the council had salted the pavements and cleared the snow, the snow was sparse. On the outskirts, there were massive drifts of snow.

    lol the fucking Guardian.

On Saturday 3 March – which the British authorities claim was the date of a reconnaissance mission – they got to Salisbury train station but say they were driven back by snow, even though local newspaper pictures show people going about their business with little difficulty.

They made two trips to Salisbury, one on the 3rd and one on the 4th. They claim they couldn't walk 15 minutes from the station to the Cathedral on the 3rd because of snow. They had 'slush up to their knees'. So they went back to the station, had a coffee and went back to London. But other people were walking around Salisbury just fine.

Then on the 4th they went to Salisbury again. For some reason they went NW of the city around Skripal's house. No CCTV of them at the Cathedral. Stonehenge was open on the 4th but they didn't go there.

    Hmmm...
  71. #71
    ...

Once there was some pushback of truth about this on social media, people started triumphantly posting the CCTV images from 4 March to prove that there was no snow lying in Central Salisbury on 4 March. But nobody ever said there was snow on 4 March – in fact Borisov and Petrov specifically stated that they learnt there was a thaw so they went back. However when they got there, they encountered heavy sleet and got drenched through. That accords precisely with the photographic evidence in which they are plainly drenched through.
