    Hey Boost.

I sent you a PM about a week ago. Did you see it?

If you'll be available for lunch on Friday, March 6, let me know. I'll be in Chicago at 10:00 AM to catch a 2:00 PM flight, so easily have time to buy you a meal if you're available.

Wow, remember when calling rape "surprise sex" wouldn't have gotten you canceled. Also, remember when James Bond was relevant enough to not only dominate the summer box office, but also support an entire franchise of parody films that were blockbusters in their own right?

Rodger Stone: pardoned or Epsteined? Get your votes in!
Setup looks a lot like a pardon, but I'm not going to be shocked by a surprise fake suicide curveball.

The Guardian has, in a feat of some skill, contrived to give its readers the impression that Stone has been convicted for Trump/Wikileaks links, when that is in fact the precise opposite of the truth.

    That Roger Stone?

Nah must be a different guy.

This Roger Stone got convicted for lying to congress and witness tampering. Only the President can do that.

My money's on a 'sudden illness' for Stone leading to an unfortunate life-shortening. Pardons are saved for war criminals and corrupt ex-politicians. You know, someone like the guy Trump plans to be some day. I think he wants to set a precedent he hopes President Sanders will follow.

I know who it is. Randy Credico.

Here's a transcript of the only interview he gave relating to this matter...
    https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/wp/wp...transcript.pdf
    And the audio...
    https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archi...randy-credico/

Stone pretended to have a back channel to Wikileaks in an attempt to weasel his way into the Trump orbit, he lied to Congress and then attempted to browbeat Randy Credico into backing up his bullshit. He threatened Credico by fucking text message. Stone is a complete moron. But what Stone certainly was not was a link between Trump and Wikileaks. He was found in contempt because he made this claim when it was patently not true. If it was true, he wouldn't be facing prison.

He also posted a picture on instagram with the judge in his trial with a crosshairs photoshopped over her head.

I'd say calling him a moron is a bit off. He's more of a sociopath. Regardless, he should go to jail for lying to congress, witness tampering and trying to intimidate the judge in his own trial, just like anyone else would have to. (I mean, except Trump of course. He can do whatever he wants while he's POTUS).

Stone was hanging around with Trump for decades. He may have tried to use this wikileaks thing as a way to ingratiate himself further, but the two definitely knew each other for a long time before any of that happened.

Yeah I saw that. He claimed he thought the crosshairs were a Celtic cross or something. I have no idea what he was thinking, had he not done that he probably only gets half the sentence. Pissing off a judge who is trying you is one of the dumbest things you can do, unless you're certain you're not going to be found guilty.

If your main point is going to be that Stone wasn't involved in Wikileaks, I really don't see how that's relevant, except inasmuch as the media may have lied to suggest he was, which I agree is dishonest.
  22. #6622
I don't think this is a subject we're likely to bicker about poop. You seem to be in agreement with me. I kind of figured you were sucked into the MSM line that he was involved with Wikileaks, but I guess I'm wrong.

What this might demonstrate though is why I trust an independent blogger more than the gutter press.

Does anyone have a theory why autocrats always want to downplay or deny natural catastrophes? What possible upside is there to downplaying the numbers, denying it's happening, threatening people who report on it?

Think about it, autocrats have absolute power-- sure, not literally, but as close to it as is possible, and if that's the case, who else is to blame? Whether it's logical or not, they are aware that catastrophes will pull back their curtain. They instinctively know they'll follow the fate of the shaman in a protracted drought if the catastrophe is realized by the masses.

Also, Autocrats think the rest of us are 'tarded.

The notion that everyday people can react to a disaster in calm self-interest is simply beyond their capacity to imagine, let alone promote.

Daily updates from the Assange extradition hearing. Quite a sobering read to those of us who cling on to the idea that our democratic values are alive and well. This is about so much more than the fate of one man. This is a demonstration of the power of the state, and of our willingness to abandon all morality to do what USA demands. The only source of optimism for me is that we're being deliberately blatant about it in court to appear to be submissive to USA policy, while giving him a mistrial. But I seriously doubt that will happen. He's going to USA, despite the fact the offences USA are charging Assange with are provably false. If Assange goes to USA, that is as close to proof that we live in a dictatorship as I need to see.

Chelsea Manning still in prison. As is Reality Winner... whose prosecutor was recently honored specifically for her prosecution. Good job buddy, you put a vet behind bars for 5 years for leaking information on election meddling that was supposed to be covered up.
Very curious that there isn't a louder public outrage over this.
Anyone who thinks Julian Assange's extradition is about anything but retribution for uncovering american war crimes under Obama is embarrassing himself.

Anyone who thinks Julian Assange's extradition is about anything but retribution for uncovering american war crimes under Obama is embarrassing himself.

It's more than this. It's also a warning to others, in Chelsea's case it's a warning to other members of the military to not share secrets to journalists, and in Julian's case a warning to journalists not to publish secrets. The MSM, the people who fraudulently call themselves journalists, need not worry about what's happening to Julian because they are subordinates to state policy, the MSM are playing ball.

According to Craig Murray, none of the so-called journalists present at this trial are writing anything down. They are not taking notes, they are simply publishing statements which they have cut and paste from digital transcripts of material they are given, and calling that journalism. Even when those statements are completely contradicted by the people making them later in the hearing.

Real journalists, people like Murray and Assange, are enemies of the state. Submissive drones who pretend to be journalists are friends of the state. All that remains to be seen in the case of the UK is whether the court has a moral backbone and is not simply a tool under control of the state.

He is not getting a fair trial. This is a clear mistrial under UK law. He is not even being allowed to sit with his lawyers in the courtroom, he is instead behind bulletproof glass at the back where he can barely hear proceedings. He is being treated more harshly than a terrorist, despite being a remand prisoner with no history of violence, and not accused of violence. He's not even allowed to shake his lawyer's hand. This is a clear abuse of power, and should be a source of concern for everyone who value's freedom and democracy.

I'm not. I'm more sympathetic to the idea that governments are subject to law. We've fought a civil war to rid ourselves of a dictatoral system of governance. You can't just have the government torturing people who dare to hold it to account, and it's shocking that any reasonable person can argue otherwise.

Besides, Assange took a great deal of care. The MSM might not tell you this, but Wikileaks were not the first people to release unredacted files with the names of informants. When it became clear to Assange that there was a problem in this regard, the first thing he did was to contact American officials to warn them. The Americans know this, they actively helped him try to arrange security for those at risk. It's interesting what comes out at court, and even more interesting when someone is actually reporting it sincerely.

I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about the completely cynical tag teaming that's going on among democrats. Warren is just in the race to syphon Bernie voters, claiming she hopes to steal the election by SD's... she's not dumb enough to believe that will happen herself, so I have to believe she's just taking special interest money to help give Biden the ticket.
Klobuchar is staying in to make sure Bernie doesn't win Minnesota and she'll drop out and endorse Biden after that.
All this work just to make sure the pharma lobby is happy. I no longer can fault anyone for sitting out the next election if Bernie gets the most votes but doesn't get the ticket. I would however fault them for not setting the DNC on fire.

I think you're putting a lot more awareness and competence in these actors than is humanly possible.
If any of them were actually that policitally aware and savvy, wouldn't they have washed out the others already?

I doubt those consequences which seem obvious to you are equally obvious consequences to the selfish power-seeking ambition of any of those Dems who have to keep telling themselves they have a shot. Sunk cost fallacy must play a part, too.

I do think that Warren has a VP deal with the Biden campaign. That's as far as my conspiracy theories go. I think Bloomberg is clueless and Biden barely knows he's running for president.

Can you imagine this paired with [currentday] Biden? Trump would rip them apart.

The more I see of Biden the more borderline senile he appears to me. This is in contrast to Bernie who's definitely on the ball and knows wtf is going on. Biden is a lot more 'grampa-y' than that, not as out to lunch as Trump but defo heading in that direction.

Speaking of whom, it's scary how many people can't see how objectively stupid and incompetent Trump is, but just believe him when he keeps repeating what a great job he's doing. I wish I could have a job where I got to self-evaluate like that.

This Coronavirus thing is just the latest example of him worryinig more about himself and his image than about what's best for the country - and sadly I can't say I'm the least surprised. If there turns out to be an outbreak in the US, there's good reason to think Trump will be focussed on blaming it on immigrants or China or the democrats instead of actually setting up a proper medical response team. ffs.

I have no idea what the point of that post even is. I get the tone is sarcasm, but beyond that, I'm lost.

On the YouTube link... I don't know what he's laughing about. She was trying to fire up the crowd and it didn't work... 'cause she's got grandma vibe and grandmas don't inspire rabid patriotism.
She should really know that about herself, IMO.

Ong, I think my position should be clear, but apparently I lost you somewhere since you responded to something I did not say.

My point is to highlight the awkward reality that is government secret keeping. Governments must keep secrets, even from their own citizens. A government whose secret keeping apparatus goes unchecked is bound to abuse its powers. Yet a government who does not vociferously guard its ability to keep secrets will find itself unable to keep secrets.

I'm not defending any specific actions, I'm just saying I'm sympathetic to the position the people with these tasks find themselves. It's a razors edge balancing act. Further it could be that the correct balancing point is actually one in which there's enough latitude for the government that some abuses will get covered up. You can see a similar phenomenon in any system of justice-- a justice system in which no criminals go free is a system in which an intolerable amount of innocent people are jailed.
  44. #6644
My point is to highlight the awkward reality that is government secret keeping. Governments must keep secrets, even from their own citizens.
Of course I agree with this. But those secrets should not be to protect it from electorial scrutiny by its own people. The people have a right to know what they're voting for. If governments are fighting wars without regard for the rules of war, if governments are torturing their enemies, these are not the kind of secrets that should be kept.

Of course there's a balancing act. People like Assange play a crucial role in this. If there are people like him who have the ability to obtain and publish state secrets, then governments have to be careful what they do. That's a good thing. Without people like Assange, the state can do what it likes. That isn't a good thing.

But like I said, this is more than the fate of one man, this is an attack on honest journalism. If Assange is defeated, which looks likely, then the free press is dead. That's a terrible outcome and strengthens secretive states. It's one step closer to an Orwellian future.

I hate myself for still being surprised at how stupid Trump is. "If you took a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that would work?" Even if 90% of your information comes from watching TV, you'd think that in 70 years on the planet you'd accidentally gather a rudimentary understanding of how vaccines work.

yeah I mean if ever there was a wake up call to the benefits of universal health care...

I heard some people were quarantined and tested, without having any say in it, not that they should but it then leads to... being slapped with the $3k bill. Seriously?

    No wait. Seriously???

Some other story came out about that case in California, the person who supposedly had no contact with anyone who was sick and hadn't traveled anywhere. The one who presumably contracted it from the corona fairie? Apparently that was a bit of a fib.

Here's another angle on the whole thing. Viruses dont care if you're rich or poor. So if you think you won't get sick when half your town has coronavirus because they're too poor to take time off work to go pay $3k for a test and instead go around spreading their germs in the cleaning products section of your local supermarket, then you may want to vote for Bernie.

30% of Americans think you can get coronavirus from drinking Corona beer. Does that help explain it?

    I don't know.
I live in an insulated life where I'm surrounded by mostly left wing viewpoints. I find it hard to stand behind anything the Reps have done w.r.t. not calling out Trump's total disregard for the American democratic process. But I don't know any intelligent Reps to talk about it with and try to understand their POV.

Lately... like over the past week... maybe just a blip and not a trend... I've been talking to people about something, and a snyde comment ambiguously deriding the US politicians' open disregard for the Constitutional processes will come up and rather than the expected political vitriol of different opinions, all there is a brief spattering of intense agreement, and then we drop it and move on.

I'm not sure about people. It kinda felt like a bit of a swing in the direction, though. Like, instead of the passed eye-contact that says, "We're not going to talk about politics in polite company." there's this spattering of chatter. Then there's the eye contact that says, "That was unexpected... let's not press our luck by continuing to talk about politics, now."

Like... the whole, "Don't talk about religion or politics at work or parties." thing may be terrible for democracy.
    IDK.
Obv. people getting all emotional about unrelated shit at work is bad for the company.

You can't expect human nature to boil away because "Wouldn't it be great if we all could get along."

EDIT: Huzzah! We can edit posts again!

It would probably help a little to open up the discourse. I can't do it. I am openly hostile towards stupidity. Progressive parties get the same talking points as Bernie like "not getting anything done" because they're blocking neolib nonsense proposition. Meanwhile the conservative party "gets things done" like the 60 hour work week and rolling back smoking bans. So wow! Big clap!

Anyway here's something Biden tards are unironically sharing as a positive: Big pharma stocks skyrocketing after Biden's surge.

This is bordering on discrimination. People can't help being stupid. Replace the word "stupidity" with "disability" and then reassess your position.

Careful, ong... you're dangerously close to my only religious belief:

The only thing that can unequivocally count as "evil" is voluntary ignorance.

Not knowing something is one thing.
Choosing to not know a thing is a completely different matter.

Acting to the best of your knowledge, but making mistakes, is forgivable.
Choosing to ignore what you know is best to do things you know are not best is not forgivable.

If you spend all day shuffling words around, you can make anything sound bad.

Looks like Warren is suspending her campaign. If she endorses Biden I'll have to take a break from twitter.

Overall I don't share the pessimism of the progressive left right now. Biden is senile. I know Trump was retarded, and I thought that would matter... but I think barely being able to talk, confusing his wife and sister, calling super tuesday "super thursday" and blanking on the word "god" might catch up to him once he actually has to be in full public view and talk about things now that he no longer has the whole clown parade of corporate sock puppets to hide behind.

I discriminate against disabilities, but I'd never shame someone for not working in this climate. If anything, it should be a virtue.

Yeah I'm going to pull my hair out if Biden gets put up as the nominee. If the Dems are actually that keen to lose the election, they could just put up Hillary again. ffs.

Is everyone losing their goddamn mind? How the fuck are so many people endorsing Biden? How do no news networks see it fit to even show a clip of Biden talking. They know why they're hiding him. Do the truly not have the foresight that they won't be able to hide him in the general election?
Hilary was horrendous on policy, unlikable, had a bad record, but nobody could deny that she was at least a smart and savvy person. Joe Biden is everything that was bad about Clinton, plus he can't complete a sentence, he doesn't know where he is, what he's campaigning for or who his fucking wife is.
I've been told not to be so cynical, but how the fuck do they think the general will turn out when Biden actually has to debate someone?

It's going to be the battle of the senile grampas!

Trump: Arrgggh! Immigrants are crashing the stock market!

Biden: Wait there you whippersnapper. I'll be hornswoggled if I can remember what you just said, but I'm sure it ground my gears!

Trump: I'm doing a tremennndous job on the pina coloda virus! Only 10 million deaths, and that's because of the deep state!

Biden: Has anyone seen my nurse? Nurse!

Trump: I heard his nurse is a witch! Burn her! Ten more years!

Trump is an idiot, but at least he's lucid, and if they pump him full of adderall he's able to do his thing for an hour and a half. Biden on the other hand...

Yeah but I mean, come on, it's an election year. We can't have the exalted leader being contradicted just to save a few thousand lives.

Oh wait, it's ok. Jared is on the case.

There’s no deadline for a decision, but one of the people familiar with the talks said the task force will not give Trump its final verdict until Jared Kushner, the president’s senior adviser and son-in-law, finishes his research and comes to a conclusion himself.

From the interview with Fauci linked above:

Q: What happens before each press conference? What do you do as a group?

A: We're in the task force. We sit down for an hour and a half, go over all the issues on the agenda. And then we proceed from there to an ante room right in front of the Oval Office to talk about what are going to be the messages, what are the kind of things we're going to want to emphasize? Then we go in to see the president, we present [our consensus] to him and somebody writes a speech. Then he gets up and ad libs on his speech. And then we're up there to try and answer questions.

Biden told Georgia donors his nominee would have to be prepared to step into the top job immediately.
    Or in his words:
"They have to be prepared," Biden said. "Once I pick someone, God willing, if I'm the nominee, that there's not going to be any snafu."
One then questions the wisdom of running at all, but at least there's a silver lining.
