    2 game suspension. =(

Basically a 3 game since he missed 2nd half of thanksgiving. Hope his appeal gets reduced to 1 game (obv v v unlikely).

Regardless, finally get to see Fairley roll out with the 1st string defense and tear up Drew Brees and Ingram.

Not that I've followed the eagles closely, but I don't understand the desire to get rid of him. They are pretty much always a good team. This year is surely a big disappointment, but it's just one year. Promoting the O-Line coach to DC is definitely a head scratcher, but if we were looking for a new head coach I'd love to have him here in Seattle.

    woo hoo!!

I'm not going to say he's the best back in the league, but I can't think of anybody more fun to watch than Lynch.

Another signature TD for him tonight.

Of course Andy Reid could make a mediocre team better. That doesn't mean he should have a lifetime job when he makes colossal blunders. Reid has severe limitations as head coach, which don't exactly negate his very obvious strengths, but perhaps will prevent him from ever winning a championship.

He's stubborn. He doesn't improve his deficiencies. In 2005, everyone watched in disbelief as the Eagles ran a slowdown offense with time running out in the Super Bowl. The time management has always been a problem, and still is. It's been a long time since the 2005 Super Bowl, and he's won 3 playoff games since then, and had just three winning seasons. That's not a great track record.

He and this management team, because it's not all his fault, cannot identify a quality player at LB or S. Reid inherited Brian Dawkins and Jeremiah Trotter 13 years ago. He has essentially failed to produce an above-average player at either position since. How can he be the guy to fix the institutional problem he has created?

There was an interesting play in the Patriots game where, on fourth-and-goal at the 1, they threw the ball. Because that's what Andy Reid does on fourth-and-goal at the 1, never mind that you have a great running back, an outstanding run-blocking offensive line. And of course, Bill Belichick has seen Andy Reid coach before, the Patriots were prepared and in Vince Young's face instantly, when against 31 other teams they'd probably be in a crash down, plug the gap defense.

Big Shoutout to Dunta Robinson today, negating the pick 6 that Yates threw. Appreciate you leaving Houston for Atlanta.

The only players on the Lions team I'm not disappointed with after this loss are Stafford and his offensive line and the RB corps.

They're the only ones that didn't fly off at the handle and give us 15 yard penalties every time we had a big play. Everyone else either got us dumb flags *COUGH* TITUS YOUNG *COUGH* STEFAN LOGAN *COUGH* BRANDON PETTIGREW *COUGH* *COUGH* or got abso owned by Drew Brees.

13 pass completions in a row? Fo rillz? CMON MAN!

Anyways, if we wouldn't have had all that ridiculous bullshit go down, we hung with the saints fairly well at their dome which is a heck of an accomplishment considering 0-16 three years ago.

lol Trent Cole hardly even got a slap on the wrist ($7,500) for his judo hip toss that ended Okung's season. Torn pec.

    THAT'LL teach him!

Meanwhile Suh gets two games for a slightly worse move, but one that didn't injure anyone.

    What a joke.

Lol @ repeatedly ramming a guy's head into the ground after the whistle then trying to forcefully stomp on his arm with metal cleats being 'slightly worse' than swinging a guy down by the arm after the whistle but while still somewhat engaged

By the way I agree that it was a pretty dirty play by Cole and it sucks losing your young LT for the rest of the year while the other guy gets a slap on the wrist.
  20. #545
Yeah, it's more than slightly worse, but in the end Suh did no harm.

I think Suh should have gotten the 5 games that Haynesworthless got, and the latter should have been bounced for at least the rest of the year (I forget when exactly it happened). Yes I'm serious.

On Cole I agree that he got off too light but I'm torn between being trained to not be results oriented and my dislike for the inequality that happened to both parties involved. I don't know what I think is a fair punishment honestly.

Results and intent matter, as does context.

I think Cole's play certainly was over the line and deserved a penalty/fine/suspension.
    2 points:

    1. Cole's action is actually more acceptable within the context of two linemen playing football. There are all kinds of unbelievable "giving him the business" in pileups and battles for fumbles in every game. Suh's action was more like, I'm going to do dirty shit to you just cuz.

    2. Suh has history of really marginal stuff and Cole does not.

    ^ basically agree

    browns vs steelers tonight, meh

browns looked good on opening drive, had 3rd and goal out a couple inches.. why not just freaking sneak it there hyachachach

i give big ben a lot of credit coming back from what looked like a gruesome leg injury, ditto to mccoy after that clear helmet to helmet shot and likely concussion.

steelers just looked like a better team even though there was no scoring for the large majority of the game. nothing too particularly surprising here

i make a promise that once (if) the browns are good again i will start actually watching, and perhaps re-watching, games intently and talk more about actual football and less about drama, penalties, suspensions etc

I appreciate the Steelers for the fact that they represent a still-relevant form of football that they basically perfected in the 70s and have merely tinkered with ever since. And they were pretty dirty back then, too.

One thing that drove me crazy during the time every team was running a West Coast variant was getting a big turnover and running a middle dive or dump to the fullback on first and second down and then a short incomplete pass on third.

When the Steelers of the 70s got turnovers, they wanted to stick it up your ass immediately and Bradshaw would rip off a 70-yard toss to Swann or Stallworth (or the other team). The gambler in me loves that mentality.

i'm hoping colt mccoy is ok after his concussion because a) i like the dude and think he is a good guy, and 2) if we have to start seneca wallace at arizona that is going to be bad news. we would have a REAL chance at winning that game if wallace starts. he came in and threw one pass vs pittsburgh and it was the best throw by a browns QB all year.

colts, vikings, and rams are very likely going to the top 3 picks with 0, 2, and 2 wins, no team has 3 wins, and there is a whole cluster-fuck of 4 and 5 win teams including the browns at 4-9. lose out and we might have a top 5 pick. squeak one out against arizona, or at home vs steelers on the off-chance they can rest starters, and we might not be picking in the top 10.

i know i know, cleveland fans are finicky and the browns is where qbs go to die, blah blah blah. i re-watched most of that browns vs steelers game and the browns O-line did a MARVELOUS job at keeping a clean pocket, receivers were open, and colt just doesn't know where to go with the ball and when he does, he lacks the arm strength/accuracy to get it there and that's when he even gets a clean spiral out. i think the guy is a great leader and a guy i can't help but root for but he only has the tools to be a backup/spot starter.

also to add in on james harrison, the rules seem unclear as it relates to qbs actively moving outside the pocket but there is no doubt in my mind that he plays with an intent to injure, i'll leave it at that.

Any game you win without Suh is a good win. The Vikings are bad but not godawful, they certainly have talent and they've not given up.

    Joe Webb is pretty exciting.

And w/o our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string corners and safeties. No Delmas, no Houston, Aaron Berry taken out, Eric Wright taken out, etc. Durant bounced in and out of the game, no Fairley either.

Ffs we were down to Davis (WR), Wendling (ST Boss), and some other dude I honestly hadn't even heard of. Anyone is going to be able to do work vs this secondary. Bobby Carpenter was up in that bitch for most of the game.

That being said, offense did not do nearly enough to win this game, thank god for our defense in the first half.

The good news is, Suh is back next week. Fairley will probably be back in a limited roll if we make it to the playoffs. I'm pretty sure Houston and/or Delmas will be back in time for the playoffs.

Idk, if we end up getting in we'll probably play the Saints. Which would obv suck dick but worse things have happened. I'd personally love another shot at them since we made ourselves look fucking STUPID on national TV in the first meeting and still managed to keep it a fairly exciting game.

    WildBob too harsh imo.

I am hoping for the Lions and another team not from Atlanta to get the wildcards, for purely selfish reasons. Unfortunately with the Bears being crippled at the offensive skill positions and the NFC East being decidedly average, the Falcons might get in at 9-7 and almost definitely at 10-6. They're 8-5 and have 2 easy home games remaining.
  53. #578
I don't care if Suh was there or not (they didn't have Adrian Peterson), it was a game vs a 2-win team at home that played a backup QB for a good portion of the game and the defense let them march up and down the field in the 2nd half. That shit won't fly in the playoffs (and yea Suh will be back but he hasn't exactly been great in the games he has played this year).

But yea I guess a post like that would seem out of place in this thread so here ya go:

Oh my bad. Im just excited about a team that ive been a fan of since I was 6 is fianlly doing.well and has a legitimate shot of going to the playoffs after a decade of being historically awful. Do I agree that they should.have poured it on after going up 21? Of course. Ut im not going to sit here and be a pessimistic douche about our chances in the playoffs when about this.time a year ago a division win was borderline impossible.to.come by.

Cheer up man! LIONS STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO GO TO THE.PLAYOFFS!

And if they get there amd lose, so be it. Im well aware they arent an elite team yet, buy they are clearly headed in the right direction.

Yea, to say that Suh 'hasn't played that well in the games he's been in this year' is just so wrong. The dude is a stud. Last year he had a phenomenal year. That's not going to happen, season in, season out for 10-15 years.

This year he's been eating double and triple teams on almost every snap and he's still making his fair share of plays. The extra lineman (or two) that he's eating up is just freeing up the MUCH improved LB corps to make the plays for us. Which they clearly have been. Durant and Tulloch are studs. Levy is more than serviceable. Shit they make Bobby Carpenter look like an NFL caliber LB.

I'm not trying to start a homer war with you on this, I just don't understand the pessimism.

Some superlatives and thoughts on this season:

    1. I think Green Bay is the best team I've ever seen. Their past two seasons are a lot like the Niners' 88-89 seasons, where they had to battle to get into the playoffs then ran the table the first year and blew everyone away the next. Rodgers is better than Montana, and Montana was basically perfect during that era.

    2. Tebow is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in the NFL though. For the most part, I think intangibles, leadership, etc. are overrated in sports but in football it's different. In the NFL, all teams have talent and if you don't have 11 guys working their asses off every play it's going to show up. Vince Young is a winning NFL quarterback and he honestly was working his ass off but his receivers clearly don't want to play with him and the lack of effort seemingly spread to the defense.

Everyone has always said that Tebow makes everyone around him better. Of course, people like reporters and college coaches say that stuff about a lot of guys but somehow it's real in this case.

Should also note that the Broncos' defense features 3 Eagles castoffs, including Brian Dawkins, who apparently is still the No. 1 Christian on the team.

    3. LeSean McCoy is the greatest short-yardage back for a fast, shifty guy I've ever seen. I'm not totally convinced that he can take the pounding of 350-carry seasons for 5-6 years (a year at running back would kill most humans) but I wouldn't trade him for any other back in the league.

    4. If you simmed the lives of Tony Romo and Jason Garrett hundreds of thousands of times starting with them in college, you probably end up with them both being Super Bowl winners a huge percentage of the time.

This comparison will probably end up looking ridiculous, but I see essentially no difference between Romo right now and Brett Favre for most of his career. Favre had superior physical skills but he also had the benefit of having a great supporting cast and an incredible support system and coaching staff around him with Holmgren and people like Gruden and Reid as assistants.

As for Garrett, he's fucking up a lot but it's probably impossible for any young coach to succeed in Dallas. The Cowboys have a ton of talent and resources but a jackass owner who's trying to be Al Davis without knowing football the way Al did. Garrett reminds me a lot of Sean Payton when he did a brilliant job as OC for the Giants, then had the playcalling taken away and was busted down to position coach in Dallas.

lol goodells got you right where he wants you. "Someone's playing defense? ban him from the league! We should have 4 QBs on pace to break Dan Marino's record, that's just how football should be."

You're just mad that Harrison has a natural advantage in the game. He has no plans on using his brain after he retires, so he can use it as a weapon... everyone else is far too concerned protecting what is an obvious weak spot.

The best part of tim tebow is that he runs so hot in the 4th quarter. Clearly the broncos are the only team that'll be able to crack GB. They have the defense to at least play.

Really? The quarterback who orchestrates the winning drive to end the game doesn't get any credit for the win? Someone should tell that to Tebow's GM.

Browns were able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and 'Skins, 'Phins, and... 'thers all won. We're looking at a likely top 5 pick!

I'm honestly happy for you. The Eagles' complete destruction of the Jets is just more salt in the wound. Good for LeSean McCoy and Jason Babin though.

Vick looked reasonably healthy or at least, near healthy for the first time in months. If Vick had been healthy and good all year, I think Brent Celek would have joined in on the orgy of TE production, as he seems to be wide open for a 50-yarder every game, but Young kept missing him.

I'm guessing you want Reid gone and a higher draft pick?

The Eagles actually have a realistic shot at the playoffs if they win out. They need a little cooperation from the Giants though.. the Giants have to lose "at" NYJ and then win at home vs the Cowboys. That's how I'm seeing it right now anyway.

There was a chance the Eagles could have been eliminated before they started play today, but the Giants lost.

Dallas plays home vs. Philly, @ Giants

Philly plays @ Dallas, home vs. Washington

Giants play @ Jets, home vs. Dallas

    Eagles must win both games
Giants must lose to the Jets and beat Dallas

So it's not out of the realm of possibility.
