Ummm preseason. I live in Dallas, but by no means am I a Cowboys fan.

Cowboys 12 - 4
Texans 10 - 6

and sadly, my Bears will go 7 - 9 again.

I did not see the game, but I drafted Tony Romo today in a FFBall League and saw the stat lines. Any opinion on why the Cowboys played so bad?

Go Packers! Jerimichael Finley is an absolute beast. If we sweep the Vikings and Favre this year I will be happy.

lol at pathetic Cowboys rationalization.

At the game, right after the first fumble, I started talking shitto my buddy who I invited to the game, saying "Ok, so repeat after me 'It's just preseason.' 'it's your superbowl' 'we weren't trying' It'll make you feel better."

Some nearby cowboys fans got wind of it, and were poking fun. And yet quarter 3, 23-0. What spews out of their mouth? 'It's just a fake game.' 'Y'all are so excited to play us'

*rofl rofl rofl rofl*.

23-0 Texans starters vs. Cowboys starters. WOOHOOOO.

not too pumped about the Chiefs' prospects this year, 6-10 would be considered a win

11. #11
I basically feel the same about the Seahawks. More than our eventual record, I'm interested in how the young guys perform and if it looks like Carroll is heading the team in the right direction, as opposed to the deer-in-headlights Mora we saw last year.

We do have a chance to make the playoffs thanks to our bad division, but, a lot of things would have to go right for that to happen.

I'd bet there's a slight correlation between pre-season wins and regular season wins, but mostly I think scores and wins are meaningless. Watching to see how the first and second stringers play has some significance though.

2007 Patriots (16-0): 2-2 in preseason
2008 Lions (0-16): 4-0 in preseason

I'm sure there's a slight correlation, too, but the Colts have won something like four or five preseason games since 2005, yet they rattle off 12+ wins every year. Chiefs are 0-3 so far so maybe that should bring me hope (it doesn't).

I think they should either shorten the preseason (2 games tops), or keep it the same but make the games way cheaper to go to (right now each team charges regular season prices to preseason games). I hope they don't go to an 18-game schedule, but it appears that's going to happen in the near future, within 3-5 years.

Seriously? Worst? Ever?

I'm sure I can find several examples worse than this thread.

come on mang you can't open this thread talking shit about a preseason game
20. #20
I like the direction Schwartz is taking the Lions. I love our d-line (Suh, Vanden Boesch, Corey Williams) but the secondary is pretty much awful (outside of saftey Louis Delmas). The offense should be much improved with Stafford entering his 2nd year and Pettigrew healthy, not to mention the additions of Scheffler, Burleson and Javid Best (who looks absolutely sick). Is this enough to scare the opposing defense? maybe not but it's hopefully enough to keep the defense from triple teaming Calvin every play.

Unfortunately, the schedule is just brutal. I would be willing to bet a lot of money that the Lions open the season 0-4 (@Chicago, Philly, @Minnesota, @Green Bay, YUCK).

Auto-Losses this year: (@Chicago, Philly, @Minnesota, @Green Bay, @Giants, Jets, @Dallas, New England, Green Bay, Minnesota). That puts us at 10 losses.

Games we might have a chance in: (Rams, Redskins, @Buffalo, vs Chicago, @Tampa, @Miami).

I think I would consider a good season to be 4-12 with Stafford, Best, Pettigrew, Suh all having solid seasons to build in for next year and then in the offseason drafting/signing some good cornerbacks and safties.

Also, the preseason means diddly shit

I should clarify that the preseason means nothing in terms of wins and losses. It is useful in determining how certain players are going to be used. The most common example of this is when there are running back timeshares. The preseason is useful in determining what the breakdown of carries is going to be. (Ex: Thomas Jones is going to steal a lot of carries from Jamal Charles this year and keep him from being a top 5 fantasy RB, FU Todd Hayley)

Yikes Bob. I didn't know that y'all had a schedule like that.

I'm really jealous y'all got Suh. Rams will regret passing on him for a long, long time, I think. That D-Line should be something eventually.

I'm going to give y'all credit for at least 5 wins. Surely you can squeek one out once when the other team is looking past you.

You just be ready to pay up when my Lions get their 6th win this season vs your precious Patriots.

Suh snaps Brady's back like a twig in the 3rd quarter and Lions rally being down 17.

Oh and 2nd that our schedule sucks DICK, but fwiw I don't think @Chicago, Philly, @Giants, and Jets are auto losses. I bet we squeak out 2, maybe 3 games there. I'm putting us at 6-10 or 7-9. Either way would be a huge win.

i'm willing put up 50 bucks that lions get to 6-10 if being laid 2.5:1 odds.

also would be willing to put 10 bucks on them going 10-6 if laid 40:1 odds.

I hereby predict the Bengals will be better than last year, but will be lucky to go 8-8, last year's record was a total fluke.

That was surprising, but not as surprising as the hawks cutting Housh. He was the only receiver we have that can be described as reliable.

While they'd never admit it, I wonder if Pete Carroll is already looking forward to drafting Jake Locker.

Ya I read DA is on a short leash in Arizona and Max Hall had the best camp of any QB there. Heard the Chiefs are looking at Leinart to be their third string.

Hawk, I don' think they wanted his salary. Paid him too much anyways.
62. #62
No doubt we overpaid him, but we are still paying him 7million-whatever-he-signs-for-elsewhere for him not to play here. Maybe if he was a liability it might make sense, but our team is worse without him.

The only good part is that Mike Williams, who amazingly actually looks like he'll perform well, will be starting in his place.

And on Mike Williams, he'll be comeback player of the year...not that he ever actually arrived in the first place. He really looks good.

Yeah, it puzzled me that the Seahawks would cut him loose when his marginal cost was effectively the veteran minimum.

At first I was like "oh, 7 mill in savings, makes sense" but then espn corrected me and said "nope, they're paying him that anyway."

He wasn't causing problems. I wonder why they shoeed him out the door like that.

Oh, I get it now.

They still have to pay him, but he doesn't count against the cap. So they were clearing cap space.

But wait...isn't this an uncapped year?

...confused again...

http://i.imgur.com/kWiMIMW.png
67. #67
Yeah, I think they basically decided Housh wasn't going to be a part of the future and could cut him now without any cap ramifications, just eat the 7million (benefits of having the richest owner in the league) and be done with him while giving the younger guys a chance to play more so we know better what we are working with in the future.

I get the reasoning now, but i'm still shocked.

I knew we were going to be going through a massive rebuild when carroll/schneider took over, but this offseason has been unreal. I saw the other day that we've made over 180 roster moves since they took over in january. It's like their playing fantasy football.

It's hard to see some of the well liked players being let go (Josh Wilson, Nate Burleson), but it's hard to get too upset. We've won 9 games in 2 years, so we obviously didn't have much talent to lose.

It's gonna be a rough year, but hopefully blowing up the team this quickly and completely will make building a good team a faster process.

I'm not sold yet on Carroll though. I really hope he knows what he's doing.

Ravens were better than you guys this year without him. They need their secondary to get/stay healthy, but they have a really good team.

I'm just glad he didn't go to Minn cause fuck them. (still bitter about hutchinson)

himself fucker.
Yeah, the Ravens and the Bengals are better than us this year. I've already noted that we're a middling team and I think we'll be fighting for that distinction.

Go flirt with a pre teen, bengals fans get all the hate on this one. i mean why wasn't there a bidding war? Surely many teams would have taken him for say 1.5m?

yeah, but he makes the same amount, 7 mill, no matter how much his new team is paying him, up to 7 mill.

So he basically got to pick his team, and he obv was going to pick one he thinks can go all the way.

ya damn i didn't know they still had to pay him

guess top mgmt didn't like him, bad for locker room and they want to develop their receivers? Idk I like Deion Branch, Mike Williams was a bust? That Taint guy might be good too

Good opening weekend. Let's see if Houston can set a good tone for the year...meaning the game is close.

Watching Favre throw bonehead interceptions makes me soooo happy.
