The Browns-Bills game was quite possibly the most painful game I've ever had to watch. Just embarrassing play on both sides.

Spoiler: Browns won because dropped passes do not move you backwards, unlike false start penalties.

Also, that game really shows the importance of the pass game in the modern NFL. The Browns played well on defense, extremely well on special teams, had a reasonably good running game going (especially considering the defenses they were facing), yet because the passing game had literally no effectiveness, the Browns needed a massive special teams gaffe (bills returner muffed a punt) just to get a second field goal late in the game.

Irrelevant to this game, but when Peyton Manning's career is over, is he going to go down as the best QB of all time?

I think he has to have a few more superb years and another super bowl win.

He does benefit from the rules of the game evolving to promote passing.

had to crawl outta bed to post this.

Watching Peytons 2-minute drive with 2 15 yrd roughing the passer penalties. I cant believe I caught myself saying "what a dumb fucking game..."

Ray Lewis said it. He's man. He can be hit.

I would put him at the top of the list for certain characteristics (e.g. intelligence, reading defenses/audibles) but not overall. He needs to improve his post season play quite a bit to be considered the best overall QB of all time. I would say he needs at least 2 more Super Bowl wins and has to come up big in the post season. Even the year he won the Super Bowl he had a lot of help. He is no question/bar none the best regular season QB of all time and I would take him for any regular season game. But if we are talking post season give me Montana, Brady, or Starr.

He lacks a bit of that x factor that makes some QB's so clutch in the highest pressure situations. It's not for lack of skill or intelligence, might just be a psychological block, but some teams in the post-season have made him look very average/bad.

Personally I am a huge Peyton Manning fan, and I hope he stays around long enough to get at least some of the passing records currently held by Favre (if he ever actually retires) and another SB win or two. One more thing. He does not always have the best supporting cast (defensively) which is what has likely prevented him from having more success since their is so much weight on his shoulders to pull out wins. If he had played for say the Steelers or the Patriots he would certainly have at least 1 more ring and this conversation would be a lot less debatable.

    Uggggh.

Two lost games this season by INCHES. UGh, the inability to run the ball for 1 yard when you need is has cost the Texans dearly.

    Soul-crushing defeat...

Discussion point: When Discussing the top 5 teams in the NFL, The Denver Broncos Belong no lower than number 4 in the NFL?

    Go.

    Talking points.

2 weeks ago, 3/4ths of people polled seemed to agree the Broncos were the worst 3-0 team to ever play the game.

Last week, only the Sagarin Ratings (+6), and ESPN insders (+1) picked the Broncos to win. Vegas, The rest of ESPN, and anyone that was sane picked the Patriots.

In the last 21 games, Captain ORTONary is 19-2.

They have a coaching prodigy, who in the last 3 years, coached Tom Brady to 50 touchdowns, turned a nobody (Cassel) into a franchise QB, and took over a team in massive turmoil and what looked like no defensive talent and has gotten off to a 5-0 start, including 3 quality wins (in fairness, they've had their share of breaks along the way).

Throw in a defense somehow giving up 8.6 points a game, an elite left tackle (and a great o-line all the way around), some stud pass catchers like Marshall, Royal, and Scheffler, a #12 overall pick RB, Orton who's playing very well and taking care of the ball, etc, yeah.. they're a pretty good team.

Top 4 seems reasonable, but there are problems with those rankings. Like for example, how much stock do you put in head to head games? Overall record? Projection of future success? Quality of the team?

To expand further, take the Pats vs Broncos game. Obviously the Broncos won, and they are 5-0 and the Pats are 3-2. Yet were they to play on a neutral field, I'd pick the Patriots. So how do you factor all that in, especially considering the Broncos JUST beat the Pats?

Good points; I think I agree with pretty much all of this.

Personally I am a huge Peyton Manning fan, and I hope he stays around long enough to get at least some of the passing records currently held by Favre (if he ever actually retires) and another SB win or two. I have always enjoyed watching him play, and thats part of watching how the Colts run their offense in general. It's really watching a system of plays/audibles/situations/whatever that have been worked on and perfected for over a decade now.

The part about playing for the Steelers/Pats is really a double edged sword though. Sure, those teams have generally had better defensive talent throughout the decade, but the Colts have always been STACKED on offense, which has helped Manning put up such impressive stats for so long.

Can somebody explain to me what happened in the Browns/Steelers game?

Near the end of the half, Steelers QB sneak in the red zone on 4th and 1. Refs measure and they come up 1-2 inches short-- very clear on TV. Yet the Refs give them the first down... what???

    Patriots 45 :: Titans 0
    It's only freakin half time!!!!

I feel bad for the Titans b/c Belichick NEVER EVER calls the dogs off. We could see history here if the Pats score 73+ points. Brady could break the single game TD (7) and yardage (554) records as well. Sick game.
  24. #174
BOOOOOOOOOOO. They took Brady out and he only had 6 TD's. Oh well I guess they still have a shot at the single game scoring record.

haha yeah, I knew Collins was the starter and I was checking the Titans @ Pats page on NFL.com. In the box that says team leaders for the Titans I see V. Young 0-2 0 yds... wtf?? No mistake there, lol.

Such an epic play by our D. The Steelers also almost always benefit from refree bias. Nothing more fun than a gimme tripping penalty on a TD pass.

    Haha, yes.

This isn't related to MNF, but I remember thinking about it at the time, and it has played out about how I expected it to (actually, worse).

The Bucs. What were they thinking when they fired Jon Gruden and decided to replace him with their then-32 year old defensive backs coach that never even played in or been a coordinator in the NFL?

Topic: This is the worst Tennesee Titans team to ever play the game of football.

    Discussion highlights,
--this same team, minus Albert Hanesworth was the best team in football last year.
-- this includes some horrible years as the Oilers, and one terribad 0-5 start as the Titans in 05.

I dunno getting drubbed 59-0 seems like it's a pretty solid reminder of what an 0-6 team looks like.

    From cbssports.com:

    Pretty amazing stats here:

    http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorysta...G&d-447263-n=1

35 QBs have enough attempts to get in the list, which is good enough for me.

Among the 17 top rated QB's in the league, none of them have a losing record. That includes 16 teams (Kolb is the extra guy). A few are at 500. Among the remaining 18 (the other 16 teams), only one has a winning record-- and even that is very shaky (NYJ). A few more are .500.

If the Titans had reasonably good QB play, there's no way they'd be 0-6. Then again I agree with you that they weren't as good as their record suggested last year. They weren't even the best team in their division the second half of the season.

Bad news about O. Daniels. He's always impressed me greatly in every Houston loss to the Colts.
