Default Monitor for photo editing (& poker of course!)

I'm looking to get my partner a new monitor for an early Christmas gift.

It'll be used for poker of course but also alot of photo editing.

Need some ideas on what I should be looking for?

Don't really want to spend a small fortune but don't want to cheap out either.

    tks

I bought me a 24" HP pavilion LED monitor last thursday and I am super happy with it. Cost me €200.

For photo editing I think a better present would be a monitor calibration thingy. I haven't investigated this because I'm lazy (i.e. I don't print pictures that I've taken because I'm lazy, so I don't see the inefficiencies in my setup), but it seems ColorMunki and DataColor Spyder are two affordable options.

Outside of this, the monitor is non-critical for photo editing, as far as I'm aware.

dell monitors are pretty cheap these days and tend to have the best panels in them. hard to tell what exactly you're after given your budget isnt very precise

Yeh, the photographers I've worked with, and am inn'a few groups with on FB never really talk about their monitor, it's all about their lens, lighting stuff, and cameras. These people make some bank if they do it professionally, too.

Yah I've been looking at the Dell UltraSharp 27" & 29". The U2713M 27" comes highly recommended (I discovered on some photography sites). It's a bit on the pricey side for me > $799 cdn. The U2913WM 29" is on sale for $599 (reg. $699). I'm thinking of either of these two now. (was going to get the 29" Dell for myself but am probably just going to pick up another cheap 24" to go with the one I have now).

I've already invested a decent amount in camera & lenses.. around $2k but grabbing another lense & new tripod for a stocking stuffer. She's using a sh1te Viewsonic 21" monitor I picked up for free & it's definitely not cutting it.

    Damn. That's pretty bad ass.

As far as a monitor then? I'd just search around on tigerdirect and look at the reviews and shit. 22-24 inch widescreen would be perfect imo.

27/29" i wouldn't bother. too big and you'll lose pixels per inch. a 24" 1900x1200 shouldnt be too expensive and a dell one would be top quality. ive got a really nice samsung 24" at that res

    Get an IPS panel yo

27" 2560x1440 Apple Thunderbolt is the nuts these days, the PC equivalent would be something by NEC

When it comes to monitors, size (and resolution and also panel type) does matter

The 27" Dell is 2560 x 1440 (3.6+million pixels). But it does cost twice as much as the 24" Dell.
