Default Med Students or Doctors in here? Opinion on my xrays please

Well anyone that has knowledge of xrays or broken bones or whatever I would like your opinion. I got these xrays taken today and 123 are all the same angle which is the back side of my femur and 456 are are when I was laying with my leg straight and its the left side of my femur and 789 are the left side too but my leg was in an L shape because she had me bend my knee for some reason.

I was pretty disappointed with the results since its been 6 months and 2 weeks now I expected it to be better by now. They are all in Bitmaps so I didnt lose any quality and I cut out all the side stuff to make the images not so big. So it may take a couple minutes to download them. Thanks. I haven't seen a doctor about them and had my one from Indiana write out the order for them. I'm going to see if he will look at them on his computer tomorrow and tell me what he thinks. If I should have the second surgery to remove the screw in my knee or not.

lol yeah unfortunately I came to the same conclusion - i just hope there isn't a second surgery in my future and its just healing slow - a dude plunging a screwdriver into my knee to screw the screw out my leg while I watch him do it doesn't exactly sound appealing

Meh... I dunno. I'm only in my second year and it's pretty much all book work. I'll state the obvious though. Your bone isn't healing.

Simply put, there needs to be enough bone-forming cells for completion of wound repair. There are many reasons for why there might not be. Scarring, infection, previous surgeries, radiation, gap between break too large, etc. might lead to a deficiency in the types of cells needed to repair the bone in that area.

For the bone to heal, these cells need a framework to build uopn. Kinda like using REBAR when you're pouring concrete. Not the best example, but should give you an idea. If the done defect is too big then the healing process can't be completed or it happens too slowly. They often use bone grafts in cases like this to provide help and give the cells a better framework to build upon. I've only seen it done once and they took the graft from the guy's tibia. I think the hip is another common place they borrow from.

I'm just a student though and really don't know that much yet so take what I say with a grain of salt. I hope everything works out for you.

my brither went through the same thing, he flipped a 4 wheeler and snapped his leg in half. He like you healed slow and had to have another sugery. Sometimes the way they put the rod in doesnt allow the bone to heal properly and they have to go in an reset it. I hope this isnt the case with you though

Yeah whats weird about the situation is its so obvious it isn't healed but I can walk with almost no limp at all now. Ride a bike over 30 miles a day everyday for the last month. Feel almost no pain except for the occassional ache and throb but for the most part its pretty pain free. I think if my bone was so messed up I could feel it more. Maybe that rod just gives incredible incredible support. I was only on pain stuff for maybe 2 weeks before I dropped em completely so I guess the pain issue doesn't mean much.

holy shit... I just turned on the TV right after I made that post, this show is on called "stunt junkies" its on the discovery channel. Ok ... one plane dropped a 'break' shoot out of it and dived staright down, with the shoot it slowed down a lot. From another plane this guy jumped, then glided INTO the other plane... like .. grabbed the diagonal part that supports the wing (its like a cesna plane) then climed in....
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

To complement what DaNuts has already said, I would agree, this is a rather long time for your femur to not heal (non-union). Apparently, there are other options other than surgery, since they do have some medical treatments they can try. Bone stimulation is one for example. Hopefully you won't have to go in for another operation. Other than that, yeah, the rest are basically surgery (graft of different hardware). Take my words with a grain of salt, since I'm only in first year. Hope you get better soon.

Got a cheap ticket back to indiana for 99 bucks where I can see my orthopedic surgeon and see what he wants me to do. He mentioned taking the screw in my knee out before. I just hope thats enough and fixes it. I'm also going to talk to him about a bone stimulator option because you can get really expensive ones ebay for cheap. Just people who had insurance buy em that dont need em anymore. AHHHHHHHHHHHHh i just hate being in the 1% of people that have femur complications.

Go into surgery tomorrow at 11:30. I said I wanted exactly how much it would cost before I did any of it a couple months ago (back when I thought it would heal fine leaving the knee screw in) and I was told around 1200 bucks for the surgery room and the doctor goes "my fee is pretty small only a few hundred bucks" So I get it in writing today to make sure they don't send me some mad ass bill. The doctor fee is 1108 - yeah few hundred bucks alright - and the surgery room is 1550. Wonderful. Then he said it would take 4-5 months to be right again and had ~80% chance of working. The same percentage chance he claims I had of getting it fixed right the first time. So basically I'm back almost exactly where I was when I started. 6 months till being better is now 4-5 months after 7 months. So by that scale it should be better in what like 3 years.

I should have called the dude who did the big surgery on my leg and had him give me a quote. I even told the billing people that they were screwing me. 3-4 hours away where I had my accident the dude did my entire leg rodding and screwing and everything for 2k. This guy charges 1100 to pop a screw out of my knee with a screwdriver? Doesnt seem quite right. If I thought I could get away with it having a friend do it with a screwdiver I would. 2500 bucks is worth a lot of pain. My luck I'd get some mad ass infection that would end up costing me more.

lol yeah dude i realize that - i would be using tons - but when there is a huge gash in your leg the chance of infection would rise considerably
