Shaming people for bad behavior is an extremely important part of any functional society.

I'm not sure it works. Shame is too paralyzing. Humans behave so counter-intuitively with some things. Shame mostly just reinforces the cause of the shame

I'm doing my best to shame Zilla here.
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

Don't we all tend to socialise with people who we feel are like us based on whatever metric we choose. I'm sure it's something to do with validation of yourself or something. It's why ong refused to meet me for a beer the time I was stuck in the hell hole that is Birmingham for a night. He'd have felt unworthy and insecure forever more.

It doesn't have to work to be important. In fact, if it keeps the targets of the shaming from improving, then it's probably even more important.

Any assertion with the verb "should" is a moral/religious assertion.
These assertions are hypothetical in nature and based on a presumed, but not confirmed, future timeline.
    (Contrast with evidence-based assertions)

Any assertion about how someone "should" feel about their choices is inherently a moral/religious assertion.

    ***
Feeling superior over someone whom is different from you is usually predicated on a non-compassionate understanding of the other's motives and history.

Using your words and actions to intentionally diminish another human is a power trip.

    ***
We all make mistakes; we all have quirks; we all embrace habits which could be considered self-destructive or anti-social.
    (Shame on us, amirit?)

It's not like weight correlates to murderers or pedos.

    ***
If I were convinced that weight or fatness corresponds to a definite increase in societal costs, then I would support a fat-tax.

Excuse me, sir, but are you licensed to be wearing a 42 inch waistline?
I'm afraid I'm going to have to write you a ticket for being over your licensed rotundity.
You can get this ticket waived if you apply for a "XXXL" license - and pay the associated tax, of course - at city hall by the end of the day.

Fat people have fat friends in America because if they didn't, then nobody would have any friends. Isn't that obvious?

It depends if you assume that all evaluations are made from a moral ground.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

Plain wrong. Someone with no power can easily intentionally diminish someone with it, though the degree to which anyone cares is typically low.

If you aren't convinced that it does, then you haven't examined the issue very deeply.

This is 100% completely and totally wrong, and it's extremely important to point out that this is the case in both the US and UK.

If the person being penetrated doesn't say yes (or an equivalent communication) with enthusiasm regularly throughout the act, then you do not have consent according to present day law which makes it rape.

The term you're looking for here is "affirmative consent." It's considered majorly backwards and wrong to go by the "no means no" approach today.

Evaluations can be made on any ground (regardless of the veracity of the input). Valuations are inherently morally based.

I don't see how this is even questionable. All value statements can only be made in an { ethical / moral / religious / philosophical } context.

Nothing is good or bad outside of the context of thought and reflection.

Thank you. I was not making value statements, rather offering a caution. It is easy to forget our own faults when we look to criticize / ridicule someone else.

You say I'm wrong, but then you describe a power trip as a counter-example to a power trip.

By power trip, I mean anything someone would do to aggrandize themselves.

paging bikes for some much needed lol-perspective in this thread!

side note, it would be interesting to know how much people weigh now vs when they first encountered internet poker.

for me, late 2006 - I was about 78kg in mendoza when i met a swiss guy supporting his travels through party sngs. I inadvertently stripped weight back to around 70kg over the next few months but that can mostly be attributed to surfing every day, partying every night, and coke at a couple of bucks a gram - i miss la paloma a little sometimes...

you're right, in my entire experience posting on internet forums named FTR, i've never posted anything sensational or controversial. i certainly wouldn't have done it multiple times for my own amusement either. i also have no reputation for doing such activities.
