I am having (or just had) a craft beer thread

This thread is not for extolling the virtues of some beer that none of your friends appreciate, but you think is awesome. It is for whatever you have recently sampled.

I just popped a Wet Snout Milk Stout by Sleepy Dog Brewery. The beer line caught my eye because they have a leghumper, as does Thirsty Dog in Akron, OH. Also, they Sleep Dogs were in the fridge (most beers were warm) and it's brewed in Tempe (I'm in Phoenix, at the moment). The leghumper is a hefferveisen so I passed.

Ratings and descriptions are hard, so I'm going to use the binary system. Would I have this beer again, yes.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale is simply outstanding. I saw this beer on a menu once, gambled, and was happy I did.

Tried Žiguli yesterday. Aroma was surprisingly pleasant, sort of light and sunny. Taste was waterish.

Would I have it again? Obviously not, but the point is that I was expecting something worse from this nostalgic Soviet-style retro-beer.

Also bought Red Rover Amber from Sleepy Dog. It's red and malty, just as you would expect. Slightly heavier than your standard amber.

Would happily drink again, seems like a fantastic session beer

Bought Rock Art, Double Porter Smoked, partially because I like the label


This beer tastes smoked with Lapsang Souchong tea leaves. It is horrible. I can not describe how much I dislike this flavor, if there is a Teavana at your mall ask if you can smell the tea and you'll understand. No one I have met has enjoyed this flavor.

Would NOT drink again, in fact I committed super foul and dumped the bottle.

Last beer from Total Wine, and from Phoenix. Laughing Dog Brewery (for some reason there were a ton of dog themed beers and I bought in). The Dogfather Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels, 10.85% ABV.

Fairly light on flavor for an imperial, but very heavy. Just a touch of bourbon flavor. Easy yes, and awesome logo.

I'm hosting this month's Ivory Tower Beer Club meeting at my house tomorrow. This is a group of a dozen academics who bring a mixed sixer and we taste upwards of 18 beers. I'll do my best to record a few thoughts before I'm DAF. <3 swig

Beer was pretty good, probably will try a different one from "Flying Dog"....i guess the beer is inspired by Hunter S. Thompson or something (hence why i bought it lol)

I just tried flying dogs "snake dog" ipa
wasnt that impressed, i mean it was good, just a bit sweet imo.
the fact that its 7.1 and drinks super easily makes up for it though

yea the in-heat wheat was a little too sweet as well, and only 4.7, but i'd still drink it again.

This weekend was in NE OH so got some Cleveland beers.

Hoppin Frog - Copper Head Red - got this for the gf. Tasted like a cross between an amber and a heferviwezen. I'm not a big fan of wheets, so not my cup o tea

Hoppin Frog - Silk Porter - Smooth, not a 10/10, but def in that 2nd tier and represents everything I love about strong porters

Indigo Imp - Gatekeeper - A robust Stout, a bit too thick to drink all night, but a very solid beer

2) I am drinking the first beer that has amazed me in a long time, Great Divide 17th anniversary wood aged double IPA

slightly mild on the hops for a double IPA, with an extremely deep and smooth flavor. I need a non-buzzed re-appraisal, but this is possibly a top 5 beer

This was a great beer I picked up in Kalamazoo last year. I've had a few other beers from Bell's and they were all great.

This rich, complex tasting lager is reminiscent of a south-american waterfall, with hints of citrus and an ever-so subtle tangerine aftertaste. After consuming the 20th can one evening, I was brought back to Detroit, gentle evening breeze lazily drifting through the quaint downtown. Very mild on the hops, and quite drinkable as its flavor is subtle, likely to be missed by less-discerning palates.

Pairing notes: cigarettes and unclean women.

Pike Monks Unkle Tripel is GOAT. It seems connoisseurs prefer richness in beers, so it's underrated. I prefer more of a bite. Its richness is decent, subtle at best; bite is mild but noticeable

It's the GOAT beer because I'm a highly sensitive person who gets all sorts of headaches and lethargy and hangovers from all sorts of things; alcohol being one of the most easy to notice. Yet I don't get any with PMUT. A couple blue moons will give me a headache, several shots of tequila will kill my motivation for the next day, but PMUT can get me highly buzzed then feeling like nothing happened just hours later. Maybe it's the organic ingredients, maybe it's something else. I don't really know, this is the only beer I'll buy though. 9% abv for $4 is fantastic value too

Can probably only get it on West Coast or Seattle area

Misread OP, but it's k. I've sampled a lot recently, but don't remember any because they're not PMUT. I've also started showing signs of becoming an alcoholic, so I've quit now, and will only pick it up again at some later date for special occasions

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye: good, hoppy beer. taste a lot of alcohol which i feel like is the rye, but could be way off with that [definitely a beginner at this stuff]. enjoyed it and would drink again, but not really my go to for a hoppy beer.

i've been drinking Bell's Hopslam over the last week. Its an incredible double IPA at 10% abv, thats is brewed with honey. It has a sweeter flavor while still keeping the great bitterness of a good DIPA. pick some up soon if you can, but it may well be sold out everywhere.

This is a good one.

There's a local brewery here that brews this for a specific store (Sherbrooke) Alley Kat Sherbrooke Neapolean Stout It's pretty badass. Good bang for the buck alcohol wise too. It's hard to make a beer 6%+ without tasting too alcoholy, but these guys managed it.

PS- will post a pic of this when I crack my next one, probably tonight. It makes guinness look like an IPA!

An Irish Style Amber Ale. What we have here is another highly drinkable brew from the Smoky Mountains. Smells of burnt caramel, and malt sweetness. Taste is made up of earthy malt and burnt caramels. Bready in the finish. This beer reminds me of mountain spring drinking water that has had caramel poured into it. Very fresh and hoppy.
