I'm guessing I can't get myself an AK-47 or anything of relative nature lol, not sure about the rest.

I think our gov is pushing for some ban on guns? Not totally sure though. I guess I better do some research before making assumptions. I know you can't just walk into Wal-Mart and purchase one though. Need to get license etc. I don't even know where to buy them here, but last time I was in the USA one of the first things I drove by after crossing the border was a gun store.

nah, just going to random gun shows and buying guns for the hell of it. I live in texas, there is a gun show just about every week. I have bought a gun about once a month over the last few years. Much better investment than cars.......

The sig p210-7 is worth 5-7k at auction, most expensive gun in collection and will only go up in value. Paid 2.7k for it about a year ago.

we have an american parts law on guns, I don't remember exactly, but when I decked out the ak I had to add a bunch of us parts. Without the clip, the AK is illegal, the clip/s have to be with the gun at all times.

We have lax gun laws here, guess I am lucky on that front.

There's something like 300 million firearms owned by US citizenry. The NRA is one of the most powerful non-governmental organizations on the planet. We love guns as much as we love beer and football. This is probably the easiest place in the world to find hand-held artillery

The .25 Beretta from the "Randomness Thread" pitbull story. Next to a Bic to show how ridiculously small it is. It's my daily carry now.

My phone apparently takes pictures backwards :/

I'll post the others when I get off work.

<<<<<<<< Shakes his Eurohead. Crazy Americans.

I love the way the guns are just on tables next to normal shizzle like laptops and that.

If you had one of those in England you'd go to prison for a long time. Just for having it, let alone actually firing the thing.

Why would you carry one around with you?

And separately, aren't you statistically significantly more likely to get shot if you carry a gun?

Trik, how do you like that Taurus?

I was between that and an S&W .357 and everyone I talked to swore the Smith was a better choice. Accuracy, quality, etc. I just kind of feel like I paid $150 more for the same gun :/

My brother had a Taurus 38 snub.. I really disliked that gun. The kick was retarded (kicked worse than this DE .45) and something would get jammed with the cylinder and it wouldn't spin...

    re: kick

it's just the fact that you're firing .38 special in a ~16 ounce revolver. i can assure you that an s&w airweight feels the same way.

    hi trik,

nice collection. what's your favorite one? i'm going to guess the ar-15 lookalike with the mossberg 500 as the dark horse.

why get the glocks in 2 different calibers?
  24. #24
Right, the first part of my comment was aimed at light short barrel relatively high caliber hand guns, while the second part about it jamming was specifically at the taurus 38.

I fully understand that the 38 kicks more than the DE .44 (** theres a DE .44 and .5, he also had a .45 but I forget the mftr) because of barrel length and overall weight of the gun.

sw is a better gun, I got that bitch for cheap and couldnt say no to the price.

But for the money, Taurus is a very solid gun as long as you like the way it feels. You really just need to hold both models and the choice will be simple for ya.

Its actually non of the above. I have another gun safe at my lakehouse with a bunch of other guns. Favorite gun I own is a saiga 12 shotgun. Its a semi auto 12 gauge with 10 round clip. That AR looking gun is actually an at-14, it shoots 410 shotgun shells is also a ton of fun to shoot.

I have 3 glocks, 17,22,26. I just like them, I dunno my first gun was the 26 just like the plastic guys

Yeah, I priced and shot some glocks, a couple sig sauers, and a S&W 9mm today. Probably purchase within the month. I was just saying the .25 is the best ccw choice with my current inventory.

I won't trade the .357, just keep adding to the collection.

Trik, you were right about the price. I can get a glock 17 for as low as $350 which sounds a shitload better than the $7-800 for a used sig.

ya, but a sig is like a Ferrari and a glock like a Corvette. Nothing wrong with a vette.. but..

When I was a Range Master at the police academy we had more malfunctions from sigs than any other weapon. Now don't get me wrong but they are great weapons but their tolerances are such that they are very temperamental. Now I carried a Glock G-21 and fired well over 150,000 rounds through it without a malfunction!

No not at all. I was strictly pointing out how temperamental they are and depending on the purpose of your weapon you may be much happier with the Corvette especially if you don't like to break down in the heat of a battle!

it's an analogy between guns and cars. it doesn't need to be proven or disproven for everyone to know that it's retarded.

as long as we're going to do it though...

i'd say glocks are more like hondas. they're mass produced, modestly priced, and extremely reliable. we'll call them civics

sigs are a little tougher because there's more variety but maybe we'll call them an accord with leather seats

we'll compare the high end custom 1911s that constantly need work done to high priced sports cars.

Was there any particular model or caliber that stood out from the sigs that you've seen malfunction? Or would you just say that in general they are built so tightly that they make great range guns but poor carry guns? Just curious because I was always under the impression that they were extremely reliable.

Actually I wouldn't say there was any particular model but there was a common issue. The Sigs all use steel magazines and in law enforcement training you drill a lot on reloads and combat reloads. When you perform a combat reload you strip the magazine from the weapon and throw it to the ground in one smooth motion. Well with the tolerances being so tight any deformity to the magazine would induce a malfunction.

They are beautiful weapons to fire don't get me wrong. For the average citizen who wants to go out and shoot at a range etc. they are great.

I was getting worried when I didn't see a 1911 even mentioned in the first half of the thread. A 1911 with a good trigger can be one of the better shooting guns around, even though the design is over 100 years old. I have a Dan Wesson 1911 that will put 5 shots into an 1.5 inch group at 50 feet away. Offhand.

So, Banana, you're the guy that carries a .25? You really (seriously) should upgrade to a bigger gun. A .25acp is like the worst caliber to carry. Maybe you might consider a compact 1911? You know they're also available in 9mm... Regardless, ditch that .25, even if you have to carry a Glock.

That's why I'm in the market right now. The .357 is a little big for concealed carry, so the .25 gets carried by default, since I only own 2 pistols at the moment.

I'm not trying to spend the money that a nice 1911 costs and if I'm going to spend $1300 on a pistol, I might as well just upgrade to a D.Eagle. Maybe once I get settled into married life I'll splurge a bit more.

I put 100 rounds through both the Glock 19 and 23 and felt comfortable with both, as far as accuracy, trigger pull, size, etc. With no price difference between the two, I'll more than likely end up with the .40 cal.

Why do you talk about the Glock like it's a second rate choice? I've only heard good things about them.

I don't think there's a whole lot of bad things that could be said about a Glock as a carry gun. They're definitely not 'second rate' in any way. I personally would rather carry a 1911, but if I owned a Glock, I wouldn't hesitate to carry it. Really, you can't go wrong as long as you ditch the .25.

Ammo in .40 might cost more than 9mm if you plan to shoot a lot.

I am now in full agreeance with this post.

    I put 200 rounds ($100 just on ammo JFC) through a 4" Springfield 1911 .45 today.

I'm more accurate with it than the Glock 23 surprisingly enough and the sights are 100x better than the ones on the Glocks.

My only grievance, besides costs of gun and ammo, is the slide release is in an inconvenient spot and it's more or less a minor nuisance to bring the slide home.

Now all I need is an excuse to tell the gf as to why it is so important I spend over 1K on a pistol :/

You need to use the 'slingshot' technique after you put a new magazine in the 1911. This is better all around compared to trying to hit the slide release with your thumb for a couple of reasons. First, it does not require fine motor skills, which is a benefit if you are ever using the gun to shoot at a threat, as adrenalin will make little details much more difficult. Secondly, it reduces the chance of the slide not coming fully into battery, which would require another movement to correct.

So, after you use your left hand to slap the new magazine into place, flip your right hand over (palm down as you're still gripping the pistol) and grab the back of the slide with your left hand. There should be serrations on the side of the slide (depending on which make and model) that are there for this purpose. They are right by the rear sight and are there to enhance your grip as you use your left hand to pull the slide all the way back.

Just pull it all the way back and think of a slingshot -- release it instantaneously so that the full force of the recoil spring loads the first round into the chamber. Boom, ready to shoot and you don't have to reposition the gun in your right hand.

Nice, that would have made my day so much easier.

I forgot to mention the 7 round magazine got annoying and I would be 100% sold if it held 12-15 like some of the Glocks I shot.

I am going to shoot a Glock 30 and a Sig 220 sometime next week to round out the .45 category before I make my decision, but the 1911 is easily leading the pack as of now.

    No hindsight for the blind.
push right hand forward instead of pulling left hand backward, imo.

I think there are much better options for a carry gun than a 1911 to be quite honest. For example, a mid-sized glock is smaller, lighter, cheaper, more reliable, and holds about double the rounds. On the other end of my loosely defined spectrum, you have guns like the Kahr PM9 or old school S&W J-frame that are both very small and concealable yet use respectable calibers.

I agree... for a first carry gun I think the S&W J-frame is probably the most practical choice. It's small, so you're likely to actually have it with you all the time, even in warmer weather. You can just put it in your coat pocket if you're going to the corner store or even a pocket holster if you don't have time to put a holster on your belt.

It's a double action revolver, so if you ever have a misfire, there won't be a jam to clear -- just pull the trigger again. It's available in .38 or .357 which are both decent calibers, even from a short-barreled J-frame. S&W makes a reliable revolver with a durable finish, so it's not going to rust from your sweat if you carry it all the time. They are available with laser grips, which provide some advantage.

There's just not much bad you can say about a J-frame, other than the fact that they hold 5 shots. It's easy enough to carry extra ammo, though.

If I was going to buy a Glock to carry, I'd probably choose a 26 or 19. Once again, the 26 is small which make it easier to carry. If it's easy to carry, you're not going to 'forget' it on the dresser.

I call this my buddys wall of death. If you look closly you'll see that I am holding a full blown sniper rifle which is equiped with all the shit. Behind me is the wall of death. There are numerous AR-15's, SKS's, 12 guages, 10 guages, 9mm's 45's, 50 cal desert eagle etc. The real beauty is hundreds of people have been in this room and have no idea these guns are in the room as they are behind a 500 pound worm drive wall. It's amazing to say the least!

Across the bottom is a very impressive collection of knives and below the shelf they sit on are tens of thousands of rounds for all the weapons. This is not his complete collection either.

Sick collection. Do you have a better picture of it? I mainly want to see the right side of the wall closer.

It kinda looks like he's got an M1 or something with all the shotties.

Probably for the same reason you collect G.I. Joe's and anime DVD's. It's a hobby.

the thread had already been split. This thread is for admiring guns. There is another (many others in fact) for discussing gun rights and whatnot.
