According to HD Guru, Sony's not content with its less-than-number-one status in flat panels, so it's planning to claw its way back into consumers' hearts with deep price cuts on all of its 2008 models next month. The other guys, like Samsung, LG and Sharp, are already planning their own price war counter-attacks. And then, in reaction to the wave of cheap LCDs, plasma dudes like Panasonic (check our quick and dirty guide to plasmas) will prolly be doing their own slashing. Conclusion: Wait till May to buy an HDTV, 'cause it'll be mucho cheaper.

To give you an idea of how much you might save, for instance, Sony's cutting $400 off its 46-inch KDL-46S4100, to $1599, and $500 off its newest 1080p 40-incher, to $1199. So we're looking at discounts in the 20-25 percent range, which is none too shabby, and definitely worth holding off for a couple weeks on your Best Buy TV hunting expedition.

Something to consider for those, like me, looking into an HDTV purchase in the near future.

There is a lot of minor things improved in this game. Like the fights, you can hide behind a lot of things, pop out and fire a burst or fire more or less blind. You have the option to free aim, I found that useful when taking out targets from a distance. I remember a sniper-mission in SA that drove me crazy. When I tried to line up the shots it was almost impossible to make minor adjustments with the ps2 control. The aim would jump back and forward like I was drunk.

Compared to the old games where your only strategy where to Rambo in, aim-fire-aim-fire style. Or abuse bad AI manners. I like it better now.

One thing I like about the cars is that it matters more what car you drive. There is a bigger difference on how they handle, accelerate and so on.

I've only managed to do that once, it was raining and I lost the car in a high speed corner. Well, it use to be, before the rain began to fall.

I like everything about this game, even the car. Im playing on a 42" 1080p w/ hdmi hookups and when im driving it feels almost like a racing sim. I hated the driving at first but once you appreciate the realism they are trying to achieve it makes it all worth it.

Also love the cell phone.

Reasons I like San Andreas best compared to GTA4 so far:

-I dug the rpg aspects of san andreas (i.e. all the progress bars/gauges). However I can understand why those would be streamlined out so no biggie here.

-Where TF is all the cool shit like packages etc? Obviously to make the game realistic u could get rid of these but its still pretty gay imo.

-I don't think theres enough places to go tbh. Like, it just seems like in a superdense urban streetscape there'd be more random places to eat/shop/etc.

-Assets were sweet. I've yet to see an equivalent in GTA4.

-Gang turf wars were sweet. I've yet to see an equivalent in GTA4.

-The GPS is horrible. It always makes the most retarded directions from point A to point B where u have to make about 3294808940 turns. Also I'm not really getting accustomed to the layout of the city because of reliance on the GPS.

-I'm not sure if you can even fly a plane. I tried driving on to the airport runways and immediately got 6 stars and was killed.

-I HATE that every mission (particularly the very difficult ones) force you to drive literally all the way across the city before the shit goes down. So tilting when u have to make this 20 minute drive 3-4 times in a row.


Anyways the main thing i'm seeing is that there isn't a ton of value to the money, as I just did the bank robbing mission and i have an absurd amount and nothing to spend it on other than keeping my weapons maxed and buying up all the clothes.

So far I think I agree with Renton on all points. But I haven't played the game much yet so it's possible I just haven't dug deep enough yet to enjoy everything the game has. One thing that I don't think will change though no matter how much I play is the driving in San Andreas is wayyyyyy more fun. I don't want to play a car driving video game for realism. I had that when I went to the store to go buy it.

Plus, having my own harrier jet was fucking sweet. I will be very disappointed if I don't end this game with one in my possession.

Cabs are the greatest thing ever. Roman gives you free cabs, but you don't *always* get one. I like that friends give you perks, thats cool. No assets is indeed upsetting me though.

Yeah I'm not bitching in that sense or anything. It's a cool game and I'm glad I bought it. It's just there was so much more I wanted to see. One thing in particular was purchasing assets that's been mentioned already. It was really kind of useless in San Andreas so it's not like we're missing out on anything without it being in there. But I was hoping they would take it and make it more of a key part of the game. Stuff like that. My only true complaint is the driving like I said already. But even that's not a bad thing. Just saying in the end I'll probably rank San Andreas slightly higher for gameplay.

It's about personal preference, I like both games but they are different. But I agree with your main point, what am I suppose to spend the money on? It makes little sense for Roman and Niko to be bitching about money problems when I got a pile of it and nothing to spend it on. But perhaps it will change later on.

Most of the things mentioned can be put down to the quest for more realism and in the end, for future GTA games, I think that's a good thing.

I see what you guys are saying but buying property was just an artificial solution to the constant abundance of money. I think they made the right decision by taking real estate out. Im not saying that it was a bad part of VC or SA, I actually enjoyed it. However if it were to stay in the game it would have to be further developed, otherwise people would think its stupid in the next gen version. If it were developed further, it would become too involved. Do you want a realestate mogul game, or do you want GTA? It was a necessity to cut it to prevent them from straying from what GTA should be.

I walk up with no weapon in my hand, it says "Hit Y to enter the cab as a passenger" then my guy clubs him over the head and steals the cab. WTF!!!!!! It's getting annoying because I still haven't figured it out and I've kinda been trying to.

yeah, I dont like the multiplayer much. You just run around and shoot each other. It ends up being assault rifles at 20 paces. Just stand there on the trigger and hope he dies first.

There are other game modes though, cops v robbers, and disarm the bomb kinda stuff which is probably more fun. But I'll stick to COD4 for my pointless killing of people.

I just robbed a bank for 250k. I still see no point for the money.

When I first started playing this game I could drive by a cop in a stolen car and they wouldn't do anything. Now it seems like they recognize me, even if no cops were around when I steal a vehicle as soon as I drive by one I get blurped. Anyone understand why?

They "blurp" you if you do some traffic violation while they're around like running a red. They've done this from the start with me.

im pretty much bored with the game now that ive unlocked the 3rd island. the only thing i actually like about this game is the driving. im sick with going really fast then pulling the hand break, and then steering it right so that i make the turn perfectly.

after having beat the game, i can say definitively that san andreas is basically superior in the majority of respects.

that said it was definitely a great game.

Yeah I've pretty much abondoned it too. It just didn't do it for me. I still can't believe the game's a 10. It's a really good game, but not much more than a solid 8.5.
