... so I have a roommate that streams sports games all the time. I also suspect that he torrents too. Whenever I try to do anything online when he is home streaming whatever sports game, it is like I'm on a dial-up modem. Even when he is not home streaming, the connection is really erratic(but generally better).

I share the apartment, and the wireless is included in the rent... and I don't really want to confront him-- at least not yet.

So here is my question: is there anyway to pwn his connection, so that he can't rape mine so bad? Can I limit his bandwidth in anyway? Or do I just have to suck it up until I can find a better place to live?

Can you log into the admin panel of the router? Most newer ones have an option where you can set priority for different devices by their MAC addresses. There's also updates you can apply to most routers that include this functionality but with even more features. It's generally referred to as QoS (quality of service).

There's also a way you can not allow his torrent program on the router which is also explained in that thread.

Yeah then do the first option I said, it's the one that most people in that thread recommend. Limit his bandwidth if you have access to the router admin. That way he can still torrent but you can choke his machine's bandwidth and your torrents will still work fine.

If you cant access router/modem, and can access his computer, then install him a limiter that limits upload and download to any number you like. You also wanna make sure that its hidden in processes, taskbars, etc.
