Firefly was very good. But it wasn't so much that it was a good season, it was that it had a LOT of potential. And Fox fucked them in the ass.

Firefly was v good. The episode where their engines and life support crap out was incredible. The show had insane potential.

Is Firefly better than other shows like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, or The Wire? No. Is it a 10/10 with regards to enjoyment, uniqueness, and coolness? Yes. Plus the theme song is goat |

Lucky for you, it doesn't get better; it starts out fantastic. The ability to perceive the fantastic, however, is requisite for acknowledgement of the said fantastic |

To perceive shit as beautiful, does not not make it beautiful. Overall quality is determined by the masses, thus ending the show early.

No better way to make your point than the fact that most of what you say is construed by the masses as satire |

It looks awful. Comparing to good modern sci-fi is like comparing the original Batman tv show to the new Batman films.

The movie is good, but it is still way worse than the show. Just an entirely different thing. The show had fluidity, personality, and coolness that you just don't get anywhere else; the movie lost most of that and became just a decent Hollywood thing |

Jayne is a mini-Tobias. Cuz you know how everything Tobias says is hilarious, well 98% of what Jayne says is hilarious. Adam Baldwin FTW |

I so thought this thread was a level. Now I so think I've been robbed for not seeing this show before. Soon I'm gonna think life sucks, since I'll never ever be able to watch this again for the first time.

As trivial the show seems on the surface, it has deeper subtext than most. Things like the way Mal makes money is illegal but honest and the way Inara makes money is legal but dishonest. Or the real reason Mal brought the doc and his crazy sister onto his boat isn't because he needed a medic, but because they're running from the government and he hates the government |

Rewatching the show tells me that shows of its era had an unavoidable problem that most good ones today don't: commercials. Since the Sopranos introduced quality serial television, most serial TV has been non-commercial because it has been on HBO. Firefly, however, was an episodic show that endeavored to be serial, yet its attempt at matching HBO level serial plots simply in single episodes was thwarted by the need to make a climax before every commercial break |

Why is a climax required for an ad break?

I imagine it goes deeper than that though. Like if there's no climax before an ad-break, the average shitkicker in Dickson, TN might get up and get a beer, not being all that concerned that he'll miss the start of the next scene, but if that scene is likely to resolve something that was left up in the air, he'll just stay seated and yell for his fat wife to go get the beer.
