    RE: Private charity tourney

Still haven't heard back from AP, and I'm not confident that they'll come through. I just sent an email to PokerStars.

I do have one more option, but it would be with GamesGrid. We are in direct contact with their programming staff and they would likely customize the private tourney program however we want it. Do many of you play at GamesGrid?

If I wasnt a poor college kid with a miniscule BR, I would most doubtedly help contribute as I know how hospital bills can be with a father who had cancer twice and me living with no health insurance....

Yeah elanto and dwarfman thank you very much. I did sort of forget to mention you guys. Sorry I tried to withdraw that money and it got denied so I have to deposit before they will let me take it out. Ill do it but I was thinkin the same thing would happen to me that happened at royal vegas where I won a bunch of money without depositing - then deposit and try to withdraw - and they want all kinds of information from you sending them all kinds of documents. Im not really in a condition for that so im really hoping they just cash it out.

Has anyone every had any trouble cashing out from superior poker?

    Thanks

Also 2 more big thank yous

JKo917 - Thank you very much - Im not exactly sure who you are but I greatly appreciate your donation. Welcome to the elite group of super cool people.

Boon man I really wish i could help you out but I have to pay back what i owe to some people. If someoen can just set up a 10+1 tourney on stars that doesnt have to be programed just get the winners to donate boon half there winning or more. i would definitly do that. I would donate all but my entry fee back cause I am on a tight bankroll as it is.

I have heard my avatar is like visual morphene.

Absolute still hasn't got back to me.

As I suspected, PokerStars doesn't do custom tourneys. Here's what they said:
As you might imagine, at PokerStars we are constantly getting requests to hold events such as you have requested. Accordingly we have adopted a policy that we cannot support such events due to the logistics involved, as well as other issues.

I got assurance from GamesGrid that they would customize the private tourney however we want. Would you guys be willing to sign up and play there?

You maybe wouldn't get as many at GamesGrid as we certainly could have if we held it at Stars.

Maybe host a standard private tourney at Stars, and ask the ITM finishers to send their winnings over to your account so you can send it to Boondock. I don't know if this will work, just throwing up a suggestion.

It worked well for the 2+2 Zoo tsunami relief tournament. They requested that all ITM finishers send 1/2 their prize money as a donation. I think many (including myself) sent the entire amount.

Thanks to pizzaman for the donation I received from him today. I greatly appreciate it.

Update on things ive been up to

last night I took the first shower in 2 weeks sittin on this custom shower stool thing with my leg propped up on the side. It was the best feeling shower I have ever had. I just sat in there for probably 30 minutes. I also slept in my normal bed last night after hobbling up the stairs. Its getting better though my fricken knee still will not bend. Im so hoping thats normal for broken femurs and I didnt screw up my knee bad on impact and need another surgery. I see the doctor tomorrow so hopefully all my questions will be answered how I want them to be then.

    Thanks everyone

And one more aside, please, players who are thinking of playing poker for your sole income -- get health insurance through a private company. You need it. I need it. We all need it.

I suggest find a lawyer of some sort for the emergency room. I know that the price they charge you and the price they charge insurance companies is different. Theres got to be a way around it. How much can you cover? and how much more you going to need?

Holy shit, those are some beefed up bills. My friend just rode the ambulance to the hospital and spent 4 days in there. $30 total with food included. I guess sometimes socialism is good.

Well expect a little donation from sweeeden soon boon
  43. #118
well my dad and mom are gonna do some hardcore negotiating and my mom requested an itemized list this morning and ive heard from one person when you do that the bill comes down a little usually cause they cant find all the crap they charged you for or something.

my goal is to not pay it in a lump sum and im gonna try to get on some kind of monthly payment plan crap that I can just pay for like 10 years that wont be much of a strain on my life. im startin to feel a lot more myself recently and may start being able to concentrate on sessions of poker to start makin some cash again.

After I pay my parents what I owe them and all this crap ill be down to the felt or under it but Ill live. It will all be very close. Im just glad I always drove a piece of crap and never bought a new car or id be totally screwed. It just sucks so bad saving a lot of money to have a safety cushion and just feel good and have it all taken away with crap like this. I just think of all the time I worked in my life and all the hours I put in at menards, mcdonalds, cinemark theater, - all the money i made at all those places combined I dont think will pay for the total of these bills - I did make crap its just depressing how much this is gonna actually cost me. I need some anti depressents
  44. #119
Come to find out im screwed I guess. My uncle says to get a lawyer to negotiate it down a lot but I still have the surgeons bill and anesteseologists bill to look forward to which my uncle believes will double the bill to 30k. Kill me now

My mom bought me a treasure chest somewhere to store all my get well cards and her diary thing she has been keeping on me since I got destroyed. When I opened it I saw something that made me feel better about the whole thing.

Its so hard being a man that was so focused on monetary gain and becoming rich with tons of money not caring about too much else. Its also very hard because I never believed in god and still cant figure a lot things of out and being a man who didnt believe for ages its hard to just start believing even though you know you should.

But I know for 100% sure that jump should have been the end of Boondock. Ive replayed that jump in my head 10,000 times and I hit so insanely hard on the ground I should have broken my back in an instant. Especially considering the giant holes I dug in the ground with my knee. Just the momentum of my body with the ground trying to stop should of snapped my back in 2. Then comes my bounce.

I came down at about a 45 degree angle maybe when I hit. So you figure how hard im comin down - around 40 mph - when I bounced I shoulda planted my face into the ground first then sort of doing a flip forward where I landed 36 feet away. I had no helmet on so any head impact woulda seriously messed me up. Both my ears were filled with dirt but I didnt have a scratch on my head anywhere. It makes no sense that I just got lucky with a broken femur.

Anyway this is the quote that made me feel better.

Do not store yourselves treasures on earth,
    where moth and rust destroy,
and where thieves break and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moth and rust do not destroy,
and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

This quote I see as just not focusing on the money. You gotta think of all your friends and family and your life and the things that really mean something in the end.

And when it comes down to it obviously if I woulda died I woulda paid everything I had to get back - not just so I could live - but so I wouldnt destory the lives of my parents and brother and random others who would have a hard time putting me in the ground. So in the end if I come out of this with a single penny ill still be way farther ahead than where I should be. Considering if I woulda died I wouldnt had the choice to begin with. Its just hard sitting here in my hospital bed most of the time having so much time to think about everything. Im so mad I so screwed myself on all of this crap but im so happy im alive when I shouldnt be. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I still have like 6 months or something of thinking to do before im outta this.

As far as long-term debt is concerned, sounds cheap to me. Given the way they're giving out loans these days, a bright young single guy ought to be able to figure this out. You made an insanely stupid decision to do an airborne stunt without all the right precautions and health insurance (I remember that when I did my tandem jump I had to sign a waver saying I was covered and was warned that this sort of thing was a lot more common than death.) I wish you the best putting your life together and dealing with the consequences of those actions. Better people suffer worse fates by no fault of their own without such a rich network of loving support.

I guess after this one would get to thinking about god, etc. Consider what you really want to do with your life and focus on more earthly affairs, it's all we really can do. After our time has passed, it's anyone's guess what (if anything) happens. No loving god would fault you for doing the best you can with your life. Certainly beats giving your time/energy/money to someone who claims to have all the answers but probably doesn't.

If you don't mind talking about it Boon, what was the mistake you made on your jump?

I'm just wondering because you did a bunch of these before fautlessly.
  50. #125
I broke the golden rule - i didnt leave myself an out - though at 500 ft leaving myself an out didnt really enter my mind since I had to start the hook turn or Id come out too low if I waited another few seconds (turns out i still came out too low).

I was hook turning into a swoop which is when you yank down on your front riser that puts your canopy into a diving spin that generates tremendous speed. You drop 500 feet in a single 360 give or take like 100 feet depending how hard you yank down on the riser which will determine how slow or fast your spin is. So you drop real fast. Well the goal is to come out right above the ground and just scream across the ground so fast with your feet inches above it. I had done it perfectly 2 jumps before.

Well I thought for a second I might come out alright but when I was about 270 into it got the feeling i needed to come out of it but if I would have right there I woulda ran into some parked airplanes so I continued to do 90 more and came out of it 10-15 too low and smashed into the ground because my canopy didnt have enough time to plane out and start flying straight it was diving so hard.

That parked airplane ground was my out I shoulda given myself but didnt. I shoulda been out way in the middle of the grass airport ground somewhere with nothing anywhere around where you coulda come out of it any direction you wanted and been fine. Well I didnt and paid the price

It was my 6th jump that day and I had planned on making 2 more.

Who was supervising/planning/organizing this? Did someone at least make you sign an insurance waver? Most of the people I know who do hazardous stuff are super-cautious and have other people involved to help keep them out of danger and double check things. Then again, there are people my father's friend/dive master won't dive with because they're an accident waiting to happen. However, in underwater diving fewer people have serious accidents and live to tell about it. The skydiving people told me that hard landings and such (busted legs, knees, ankles, etc.) happen every now and then, but fatalities are very rare.

Once u have your license you can do what you want - jump whatever you want - land however you want. I had lots of swoopers advising me and it was breaking the golden rule that screwed me. I had done it in an open field enough times I thought it didnt matter but I went into it a tad off heading so I had to do a little more than a 360 to clear the parked airplanes and thats what screwed me. Yeah I had to sign all the insurance stuff and even if I didnt I would never sue em. They didnt do it I did. And it actually happens a lot in skydiving fnord. Its just part of the game. Most deaths in skydiving happen from swooping - out of the 60-70 there are a year - id say 40-50 are from swooping under perfectly canopies. Very few just totally screwed on their rigs with double malfunctions or something. The death at my dropzone last year was from swooping and he actually hit in almost the same spot as me and died on impact.

On the back of parachutist magazine this month it said "femur is not a verb" - My friend at the dropzone broke his in 5 places and needed plates and rods and ended being on crutches for 2 years because of complications.

Now I realize swooping isnt worth the risk but it was one of the things that you never think will happen to you.

Well whoever wants to lose weight Ive discovered an easy way to drop pounds fast. Break your femur. Im now beginning to look like dwarfman. I was always skinny anyway but now im 5'8" 122 lbs and have dropped about 8-10 lbs somewhere since my accident. I had also lost 10 lbs when I had my tonsils out.

Boon, good luck on the recovery. I'll do whatever I can, which honestly isn't much. I'm on workman's comp now from a hard fall at work. Fortunately for me, it was at work. Outside of work, I have one word for you. AFLAC.
Get the AFLAC coverage. They pay your paycheck for you and all your bills. It's cheap as shit too. This is good advice, I've had it for years, and have used it twice. Good protection. Sorry to post this here Boon, it's important people know about this. Take care, friends!

Holy shit, man. I've been taking a break from poker and missed all of this. Just saw it now.

Good luck in your recovery and all that. It does sound amazing that you're still alive.

    Hey boon,

FYI: at hospitals they have two little barcode stickers on EVERYTHING. Every single tylenol they give you comes in a little two pack (like at the gas station) and they have those stickers on them. The put one sticker on your chart, and one on your billing. So, at the end of the day, or month, or whatever, they run a code scanner over each one like a f*cking grocery store or something. I guess nowadays having an insurance card is the equivalent of having a Kroger Plus Card. Only the hospital doesn't print you out a 2 mile long reciept with coupons for Hot Pockets on the back.

I used to work in Materials Management at a hospital while I was progressing through medical school. Good luck buddy. I'll get some e-money together one of these days and hook you up. God Bless friend.

Yeah I got a itemized list which a few people said would take the price down and it didnt come down a penny. Physical therapy that consisted of maybe 10 steps on crutches and 3 stair steps in about 5 minutes was over 400 dollars which I think made me more mad than anything else on that bill.

They wont budge on the bill either. Its either a payment plan for like a super long time for the full amount - Or I have to pay it in one lump sum with 20% off. . They are really going to poop their pants because I charged the surgeon bill and ambulance ride which will take my checking account down to like literally 0 or darn close - so they will see that I have no money - have no job - and cant get a job for another couple months

The lawyer my dad talked to said whatever payment plan they give you to get in a contract for the life of the loan so hopefully they do like 50 dollars a month and ill just have to pay it for 25 years. Thats how I would like this to end up. Id be paying it till I was 47. But an interest free 25 year loan for 15 gs isnt that bad of a deal.

Well thanks again for the support guys.

Ok - I've been tracking this since the get go and although I am too much of an old-fart to have the tech wherewithall to post a LiveBoon ring under my posts, I have been thinking of you and wishing you the best of luck.

    Couple of comments/suggestions/questions:

    1) Obviously you are in the skydiving scene - since you have a lot of time on your hands, have you thought of writing a quick article about your experience, what you did wrong, what you learned, and include the nice gnarly photos (of your injuries and the massive divots you created) and trying to get some $ that way from one of the skydiving mags out there?

    2) I don't know how old you are or where you live, but I'm assuming you are a young adult in the US. If so - you should seriously consider filing for bankruptcy. It does have serious later ramifications (e.g. will be much harder to get loans for things like cars and houses later on), but it should start you over at a clean slate as well and you won't have hospital bills hanging over your head for a long, long time to come. I'm not saying this is the right choice for you, but maybe it's choice you haven't even looked into.

    3) I am still waiting on my first MTT win of 3k or better. I am promising you a 5-10% tithe when (if) it happens.

    4) Good luck, stay positive.

Thanks for the well wishes/suggestions - about the skydiving mag - they are already reported by the USPA with everything that happened and went wrong and what to do to correct it every month in parachutist so that route isnt really available. Its a fairly common occurence in skydiving too. At least 3 people probably like 6-10 since im sure some you never here about some, people break femurs every month. I got off lucky. A lot of people usually break some vertebrae too and crack their femur(s) in multiple places. Well and a lot of em die. There were 68 deaths in skydiving last year and im sure it will go up this year. My friend broke his in like 5 pieces and was on crutches for 2 years with all kinds of plates and screws in his leg to keep all the bits together. He had some other complications too that kept him on crutches for so long. He was also in a coma for 3 days.

Another friend of mine hit so hard he cracked a 600-700 helmet clean in half and broke all his video equipment on top. Had all kinds of brain swelling and crap. Luckily my head never touched cause Id be dead for sure since I was wearing no helmet. People who saw his thought he was dead for sure bceause he knocked himself clean out for quite awhile.

Im 22. I was thinking about bankruptcy just so I wouldnt have crap hanging over my head but it actually can screw you with getting jobs too. My uncle has had this problem. He was a college professor and for a few years did a lot of investment banking making tons of money - well ended up losing it all and lost his house and had to file bankruptcy and now he hasnt been able to get anything better than adjunct professor for years. He knows its because of his bankruptcy. I still may be able to get on some phat real low payment plan that wont be that much of a burden is what im hoping. They still havent sent me any of the paper work yet though which they said they were going to about 2 weeks ago.

I also may just take all my banked money and move to europe somewhere and start a new life lol now that would be fun.

    3) Ill be praying hard for this MTT win :P :P :P :P

    Thanks

I'm not saying it doesn't happen - but the law prohibits employers from firing or discriminating with respect to hiring when it comes to bankruptcies. Your uncle was also much older than you are and with much more assets - you are in a much different situation which has both potential benefits and downfalls. Look into a little more. Here's a site to start you off: www.uscourts.gov/library/bankbasic.pdf
When I started back up in school 3 years ago, my wife and I had to take a long look into whether or not we wanted to fork out the major $$ for health insurance (i.e. for anything major which the basic school insurance does not cover). We decided to risk it because even with insurance, the cost of anything major was going to put us in major debt just by paying the 20% deductible. We recognized that if anything major did happen, we would probably have to file for bankruptcy.

Anyhoo - I too will be praying hard for my win. We shall see...

I'm new on this site and was wondering what the "liveboon" rings were for, I found this thread after following a link from the "what the hell does [insert weird FTR phrase] mean?" in the beginners circle.

Firstly, I hope that you continue to improve and hope that your injuries do not have any major long term negative effects, but I guess atleast some impact is inevitable.

Secondly, I have to say what an awesome community this site is. I am just starting out in poker and am not well off enough to make a donation yet, but as soon as I turn profitable some money will be on it's way to you. To see that you've received around $3000 is touching, and I don't even know you or anyone else on this board.

Anyway, just wanted to drop a message on here so you know I'm thinking about you aswell - it won't help you financially but it's all I can offer right now!

    Take care...
