Default Disney Buys Lucasfilm, Ep VII to hit theaters 2015!

So obviously after the disaster that was the prequels, there is reason for concern, but...

If we look to the Disney buyout of Marvel as a forecast of what's to come, things really don't look so bleak. Disney is a huge, multifaceted entity, so fears of "will it just be Ewoks and Jar Jars?" are a bit of an overreaction.

Really the most hope can be garnered from the fact that Lucas himself is listed as a creative consultant, and not Director. Obviously Lucas did something great by creating this alternative Universe, but don't forget that the two best Star Wars films are directed by other people, and credit a team of writers, instead of just Lucas like in Episodes I-IV. If Lucas stepped back on the prequels like he did on V and VI, I firmly believe that they wouldn't have been such a mess... in the right hands they could have truly been amazing, and this is why, with Lucas relegated to Creative Consultant, I have a new hope (har har) for Star Wars features to come.

While your argument is good and there are several other good arguments that can be made for why this is positive, I think Hollywood has become so shitty that the only time something of quality is made is almost luck. Prometheus, for example, was supposed to have everything it needed to be amazing. It had Ridley Scott, attention on returning to the old Alien style, minimal use of CGI, etc, yet it ended up being a piece of garbage where the writers were basically the Transformers crew attempting to be smart

ya, Prometheus was uber bad. However, the Phase I of the Avengers movie effort was for sure a positive. It wasn't unbelievably good, but it for sure was nowhere near Transformers level of crappiness. I think it's possible to make more Star Wars movies that are truly on the level of Empire Strikes Back, but I'd be very satisfied to have an Avengers Phase I series of Star Wars movies... anything to wash away the memories of I-III.

ESPN is one of the things that gives them money to make moves like this. They make a shitload of money from ESPN.
