It's great in the summer smoking a good cigar with a few friends watching the sun go down. Don't smoke many in a year but I enjoy each one of them.

It's been a while. Yes Dana a good whisky makes it perfect. I think I have an activity for tomorrow afternoon planned out already...

A dark roast of coffee goes really well with them I find. Good alternative to alcohol.

Agree on the coffee, a 2:1 ratio if columbian medium roast and monsooned malabar which is dark and dirty goes well.

Yeah I enjoy one from time to time. Never smoked nearly enough to consider my tastes refined enough to start talking shit about them on the internets though.

I sometimes walk past this 5 star hotel with a swanky cigar lounge with nice leather armchairs and the like. I'd like to go there and smoke at some point.

There is never an occasion where I would rather smoke a cigar than a spliff.

Its at a resort in the poconos [pennsylvania]. The event is put on by Cigars International and has a ton of vendors there giving out cigars to people who bought the entrance ticket. Ticket was ~$150 and I think I walked away with about 100 cigars, a humidor, lighter, cutter and a couple of ashtrays. went last year and had a blast and decided to make it an annual trip with my buddies and this year was even better.

Do y'all smoke cigarettes as well, cigar smokers? No idea if the two go hand in hand (have to smoke cigarettes to enjoy cigars) or what the deal is, as I've never smoked a cigar.

Definitely do not need to smoke cigs to enjoy cigars. cigarettes you inhale and smoke primarily for the instant buzz fix, cigars you basically just puff the smoke in your mouth/throat area without taking it into your lungs, and therefore the nicotine is absorbed slower and gives a different feeling - it's more about the flavour/smell than any buzz you can get.

I tried a cig once way back and it just felt like smoking paper. Never had one again. Also the idea of getting hooked on them and having to step out every hour of the day to get fix isn't too appealing :/ so that probably has helped me avoid them altogether. Well that and the fact that chain smoking will fuck your lungs right up along with other things.

I don't understand the point. You just take a drag and swill some smoke around your mouth then blow it out wtf? Is it supposed to be all about being able to distinguish between different artisan tobaccos? In which case you would probably need to smoke a few rather than have just one isolated smoke to understand the benefits.

naw, i don't care too much about the tasting for vanilla, chestnut and whatever stuff you can taste in a cigar. i can tell if a cigar is mild or strong, and bad-tasting or good-tasting. Maybe I'm exagerrating a bit, and I can tell a few more things that differentiates cigars, but I find wine-tasting/cigar-tasting/whisky-tasting fanatics take things a bit too far for my liking. But I suppose they have fun doing so, so why not let them have their fun? I just smoke or drink keeping the enjoyment mostly to myself.
