    Default Bigred's Boardgame Thread

Yep, another Bigred thread! Calm yourself, ladies!

After seeing a post from Kingnat on facebook about a game I had never heard of, sentinels of the multiverse, I'm curious if other people are playing fun games!

My wife and I currently play a few. These include settlers of catan and an awesome card game called ascension (we mostly play on iOS though). Other fun games include Cards of Humanity which is always a fun group game.

    What are you guys playing?

    I'm a big boardgame geek.

For a hard core D&D style game, I like Star Wars Imperial Assault. One player controls vader/storm troopers, and the rest are weak rebels that have to figure out how to level up and win. Balanced? Idk, but its fun for star wars nerds.

My next two favorites are Nothing Personal, and Marvel's Legendary.

Casually though, I like Monopoly Deal. Its monopoly, except its quick and doesnt suck the life out of everyone who plays.

I rarely play board games, as I have no friends, but I get my fix by pretending I'm friends with Will Wheaton.

    TableTop - Season 3

Unfortunately, that link contains a lot of short videos that are basically "bonus clips" for the ~30 minute episodes.

The episode showcases a game with a description and a play-through. Most games have to be sped up / cut to squeeze the show into the time slot, but it works quite well for demonstrating the artwork and mechanics of the various games.

+1 for Monopoly Deal being quick and fun.

Tabletop is pretty entertaining show that gives you the general rules and strategy of each game while being filled with nerds and dick jokes.

I've quickly become the owner of a pile of the euro-style boardgames.

If I had to recommend one game I would suggest Pandemic. It's great. Totally cooperative where you work with your fellow players against the outbreak of several viruses. It's hard as hell, but very fun.

If you have parties with lots of people, Avalon (or Resistance) is a live Werewolf-type game that is lots of fun but requires 6+ people to play.

I could list loads of other games but these are two very different games that give you a good place to start.
So you click their picture and then you get their money?

I played quite a bit of Stratego, Life, Monopoly, and Trivial Pursuit as a kid. That was 30 years ago though.

My favorite board game of all-time would have to be Mouse Trap. I don't recall ever actually "playing" it, but it was fun to set that trap up!

I've been this close on multiple occasions to buy Pandemic. Is it playable for two people or more of a game night kinda thing with friends?

Wow. Tabletop is awesome for getting a quick view into a game. Thanks!

Think I'm going to get Pandemic asap, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytK1zDPPDhw

Pandemic is a lot of fun, but its crazy hard. Without alphagaming it and researching the best strategy, my groups lose about 90% of the time. Still, it a lot of fun.

It's very playable with two people, and like i said, it's hard as balls but still fun. There's so many ways to lose. The trickiest part is knowing that you're playing the right way. It's easy to get a little confused. If you find you have won several times in a row, you probably aren't playing correctly.

Really enjoy that one. Lots of alcohol really escalates that game quickly.

We actually bought it for my in-laws this Xmas with the caveat that they never, ever try to play it with us.

Not quite a board game, but I've been playing a bunch of X-Wing miniatures with a friend lately.

Played Lords of Waterdeep with him and our wives the other night, which while set in D&D land is pretty much a generic resource strategy game just branded D&D, and is a lot of fun. We also played a co-operative game set on an island where you need to gather treasure and escape before the island sinks, but can't remember it's name. Was a short fun game, but hard and luck plays a big part.

This is the game of which he is speaking. (I hate that I can't finish sentences with prepositions anymore... it makes my sentences sound like I'm a pretentious dickwad.)

Haven't played board games in years but my favorites were Mouse Trap (not setting it up tho), Monopoly, and Fraidy Cats.

Yeah I can only imagine how far the new games have come, but I still love the classics, forgot to include Risk in that list!

If you've got a regular group, then Risk Legacy is awesome fun.
