I've had my droid about a month now, have downloaded a ton of crap
Some I've actually used productively:
Listen - great podcast manager
My Tracks - GPS tracking for a run, trip, etc
Free Games:
Replica Island - free game featuring Android
Trap!

There is only one app you need: the google voice-to-text. Drinking with your friends will never be the same.

getting a droid next month so bring on the good suggestions. my brother in law had a pretty cool app that showed constellations wherever you point the phone in the sky. not that practical, but cool nonetheless.

Definitely try them hands on before you buy. I haven't used the droid, but I have used other full touchscreen phones that randomly wouldn't react when you click something or it doesn't click exactly where you thought you did which can be very irritating when you browse pages with lots of links.

This is the same kind of nonsense why they got away with selling 500mhz PIII's with 128mb ram in supermarkets in the late 90's and people would go "oh see, this has 500 of something while the one over there has 300 of the same, so obviously this must be better.

I just got the droidx and the performance is pretty solid but I am curious if rooting it would make it even better. However, I heard that you can't root the x. Do you know if this is true? I'm hearing that 2.2 is going to be released closer to the end of August. But who knows.

i ended up rooting Wednesday night and am pissed i waited this long. As long as you read through the tutorial a few times and take your time doing it, it was a pretty fail-proof process. I installed android 2.2 with a pretty cool theme and overclocked to 1.2Ghz. This thing is 4-5 times as fast as stock. Apparently all droids act differently when accepting the overclock or whatever, and i got lucky that mine accepts one of the highest speeds.

Android 2.2 (aka Froyo, which I just found out is short for frozen yogurt) is to be released this week. Unofficial they will push 10k "updates" tonight at midnight, then 200k every day after that. They're basically handed out randomly.

swiggs, are you rooted? If so, download root explorer for your file manager needs. I think it may work if you aren't rooted also, you just wont be able to write to the root of the SD card, ldo.

I just tried out SkyDroid golf app this weekend and it is boss! The golf courses are mapped by community members so you have to play a pre-mapped course or map it yourself which only takes about 20 minutes the first time and probably 10mins if you stick to greens only. Graphics are good, think Google maps satellite images. Yardages are very good. You can map hazards, bunkers, trees, etc. The only think it doesn't do is keep score or find lost balls.

I rooted my x and downloaded the superuser Milestone app which allows you to overclock. I don't really see the big deal. Maybe I didn't do things right, but I don't really see that big of a difference.
