    Default Adderall in Poker?

With the NFL finally cracking down on the use of Adderall, the drug prescribed to those with ADD and ADHD, and many of my peers in college using them to concentrate when working on papers or studying for tests, I was wondering if the poker world has issues with Adderall.

I have a friend who is a college quarterback and he says that he uses it for football to focus better in the game and even more so off the field. In the classroom he is able to get more work done and do it at much higher standards than without the drug.

Is it frowned upon? Is it considered cheating? Are players currently using it to gain an edge?

I am pretty sure it is indeed illegal if used by someone it isn't prescribed to, but if a player were to use it for either online or live events, they would, in my opinion, certainly have the upper hand. They would be able to maintain intense focus for hours while most player's minds fatigue.

By no means am I saying that I use it or anyone I know uses it in poker, but I am curious as to its presence in the game.

I've never heard anyone complain when I smoke a gumball sized crack rock during my sessions, so I don't see why snorting some Adderall is gonna matter.

Does it mix well with heroin and crystal meth? I could use another something to smooth it all out... I mean the crack makes me jumpy, so the heroin brings me down, but a bit too far, so the crystal meth picks me back up, but leaves me feeling kind of sober... so I drink a few shots and smoke a doobie laced with PCP, but then I just can't concentrate on all the drugs I've taken, and my poker game slides a bit when the Queens start flirting with me....

Do you think Adderall can help with this?

You can hand a person an aspirin and say hey, this will help improve your game, and if the person will cling to that belief, they can make it true.
Even this weekend, I read an article that people of 35 should not run, as it causes more problems in the heart and veins with scar tissue than benefits we get from the improved circulation. I can use this information to quit running the rest of my life.

I'm guessing that he's referring to this, but with some of the details wrong:
One Running Shoe in the Grave - New Studies on Older Endurance Athletes Suggest the Fittest Reap Few Health Benefits

I read it and decided to go back to the couch potato lifestyle. You know, for my health and all.

Note that even the "strongest proponents" of this theory are still getting regular exercise in the form of running - just not more than 35-40km a week and not crazy fast. The writer of the article stays quiet in the second-to-last paragraph about the fact that a middle ground between "serial marathon running" and "couch potato lifestyles" would be more healthy in terms of longevity. Also find it bizzare that the writer basically states the only benefit to exercise is longevity.

Ya but in general, long distance/marathon running is not exactly meant to increase health no more than pro bodybuilding is. Pushing extremes in fitness is about peaks, PB's and pushing limits, not health and longevity. I personally hate almost all cardio exercises as a means of fitness and body composition change in lieu of weight training and nutritional strategies.

NFL players are in tremendous shape.

I like nutritional changes so I can keep my weight in check. A friend of mine in a wheelchair lost 50 pounds just changing his diet. He was unable to exercise, so it showed me what food can do to help us be in shape or at least not obese.

I have a sore back, so not much into weight lifting.

I need something to reduce my training regimen that takes 2 hours a day. My daughter does a silly half hour Jillian Michaels genre video and bam she looks in better shape than most aerobics instructors. I have a tough time doing indoor workouts, I like being outdoors to exercise.
My routine consists of 3 mile walk, 3 sets of 5 chin ups, 3 sets of 5 pull ups,
2 - 100 second planks, and 100 second right plank and 100 second left plank, stationary jumping jacks, 50 straight up, 50 leaning right, 50 leaning left. Balancing on each leg for 100 seconds.

The only other option remaining then is body changing drugs... which leads to steroids, or as in this thread , suggesting Adderall as a performance enhancing drug. I know I abuse caffeine, consuming 2 liters of Diet Mountain Dew a day. I attribute that to when I worked overnight shifts and just haven't wanted to break the habit. I simply tell myself it is an appetite suppressant. Just as coffee suppresses a persons appetite.

2-Liters of soda a day? I have an idea to improve your diet...

It's easy for me to attack sugar as "bad" food, because I'm prone to hypoglycemia (it's the opposite of Diabetes. I am awesome at producing insulin).

Point is.. Try to go for a week without any refined sugars. No soda, candy, cake, etc. See how you feel when you have a soda at the end of the week.

Sugar in fruits and carbos is good because the body has to "refine" it in the digestion process, so the sugar enters the blood stream gradually. As opposed to refined sugar, which is readily absorbed all at once.

    EDIT:

I drink 2 liters of Diet Mountain Dew. It has no sugar. I can spill it all over my car and no stickiness. .

Now if I mix it 25 percent Mountain Dew and 75 percent Diet Mountain Dew, it is good as a mild laxative. Works well when I have not eaten enough fiber. Straight Mountain Dew would be like eating a whole can of beans, I know no matter what, only consume half a can of beans in one day, no matter how good they taste else you pay the porcelain gods in loud bursts.

I think the Adderall would have to be experimented with also to see the best dosage to use for the desired effects.

Several of my uncles got diabetes when they hit 200 pounds, so I credit the Diet Dew with reversing my weight gain accruing from a slowing metabolism due to aging. I was at 192, and dropped it a dozen pounds. Trying to maintain for two more weeks, here in an all you can eat environment. Then I will be heading south for the winter where it is easier to eat healthy.
I know I have not made a smoothie with my 14 ice cubes and oatmeal in 39 days, because who wants a stinking ice cold drink when it is 20 degrees outside.
I wonder if Adderall works better in cold weather? I know alcohol when consumed makes me not worry about how cold it is when I am in outdoors freezing weather.

I drink between two and three liters of Mountain Dew (not diet) each day, and I have for the majority of the past 12 years. I mostly sit around doing nothing, and I eat a whole lot of crappy food. I've never worked out, and I probably couldn't jog half a mile without collapsing. I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs., and I've gained a total of about five pounds since high school. I'm not making any of this up.

What is the goal of your exercise? None of the things you are doing are bad, but without increasing the duration or repetitions, you wont really improve. If you just want to maintain whatever level of fitness you currently have, I guess thats not horrible, but adding in more pullups and chinups cant hurt. Is your back just sore, or do you have an actual injury?

If you are drinking 1k+ calories a day of soda, then you are eating a whole lot less junk than you think. Some people have faster or slower metabolisms than others, but almost all of the people that say "I can eat anything and stay thin as a rail" dont eat as much as they think [and say] they do, simply because it isnt possible.

With all due respect, yes, it clearly is a weight loss aid. If somebody is drinking 20oz of full calorie soda a day and switches to diet soda, that alone will lead to weight loss of ~2lb/month. So it pretty clearly aids in weight loss. Is it "healthy" to drink tons of it? Honestly, Im not sure and dont think most nutritionists are that sure, either. However, to say that it doesnt help with weight loss is crazy. One product has >200 cal per 20oz, the other has like 10.

Moving beyond the semantic argument, diet is all about reasonable changes that you can sustain for a lifetime. There is so much low hanging fruit in the average person's diet that complaining about them drinking too much diet soda is insane. Is 2 liters a shit ton? Of course, and maybe they should cut it down, but honestly, Im sure there are a ton of other things they could do that are more important. Focus on weight loss first, then worry about the other things, imo.

I come from the camp that doesn't believe in the "calorie is a calorie" as a be all end all of health or weightloss/gain.

I also believe that that much calorie free soda does not come free. Phosphoric or citirc acids plays havoc with the digestive enzymes and bacteria of the gut and intestines. Sugar substitutes although not proven to be bad, have never been tested at such high doses for such long periods of time, not to mention there is evidence that the sweetness alone could mimic sugar in the body for people with insulin sensitivity and cause low blood sugar, and uncontrollable food cravings. Lastly, caffeine is considered healthy and actually good for you in controlled doses, but if I remember correctly the US Mountain dew has quite a lot and this is going to cause problems with blood triglyceride levels, sleep problems and who the fuck knows what.

I'm also pretty sure, there is nobody in their 90's living a decent life that have drank hundreds of thousands of of liters of diet soda in their lifetime.

This health and fitness crap needs to stay simple or people will not even try. People do not need to live deprived.

    Two schools of thought, there...

Alcohol is made from the frinest grains and hiccops, that definitely needs digesting... the fiber makes you feel full and it keeps the stools soft. So its good for you coming and going.

Second, I and my druthers, or was it my druthers and I were not meant to live on his bread, butter and peanut butter alone. Something needs to wash it down so there is no chokin on ye dry toast. Thank you gorill-ill-ill-la.

I did imbibe on vodka and the Diet Dew this weekend. I do treat it like a baseball game, three shots and out. But there is/are/were nine innings in a game, hmm.

jyms is either being silly, or you managed to get under his skin after he said whatevs in the other thread (which is funny). Either way, happy fun time, don't worry about it.

I just have an itchy trigger finger and when I hear spew in terms of health and fitness it makes me feel the need to kill small animals.

Also following the rules is not always good enough. Just because the posted speed limit is 100kms on the highway, going 30kms doesn't mean your following the rules. I'd rather you did 120, it would be safer and nobody would notice you.

How come everyone threatened with a ban responds with the same line of "let me know so others wont do the same?"

Do you follow me? On my drives across the country, I drive 55 mph while everyone flies by me at 70 mph. My vehicle needs an alignment and starts to wobble when I go much faster. I figure, the first cars made went so slow, no windshields were needed. Why should I be in such a hurry.

I like your ban hammer. Looks like a pretty useful tool for the right ocassion. I was wondering if you were like a traffic cop, just waving his gun, motioning to direct traffic because you misplaced your flashlight, or if you were ready to do a search without showing a warrant. I felt like a deer caught in the headlights, there. Watch how you swing that damn thing, I don't have medical insurance until ObamaCare kicks in...

I think the spew you are hearing is from all the carbonation. Be careful with the pop can even if it is an empty, the edges tend to be sharp.

That's from jyms getting a piece of me with his dang Banhammer. I told him to stay a safe distance, but no, he says I've used this before. Fine, I got a hammer of my own laying around for rubber stamping staking requests...

clearly he's not very smart and is talking so much utter bollocks that it's gotten away from him, and is now looking for any exit from having to admit to being a) wrong b) inconsistent c) illogical d) d. The jyms banhammer warning has nothing to do with anything

One of my workouts. I did this 6 times, so this being the last time I got tired and missed the last rung...

One Minute For Fitness - YouTube

also got in frisbee tossing but it wasn't windy enough for fun, running 100 yards 10 times, and used the new tetherball I bought this day. Pretty succesful day in my book. For 52 years old, just getting outdoors is a good day.

LOL, I'm 48, I can Bench my weight, Squat 275 and Deadlift 315 and all for reps. I'm in the gym 6 days a week and showing fat fucks like you how to get a life back after years of drinking Diet soda and eating low fat cookies. See this is where your philosophies fail you. What you do has you at 52 going on 72 and mine have me at 48 going on 28.

Props on your lifting. That is huge.

I prefer playing tetherball, or throwing a frisbee 25 yards over the Gulf and having the wind return it back to me. Several of my friends are big weightlifters. He mentions he was curling 100 pounds with one arm but was now doing 110 pounds with one arm. I mean that is lifting up a chick with one arm, that weight. Another lifter gave me a pair of gloves for when I use to do my 2 sets of 15 pushups. I bought me another pair of gloves this year for my chinups/pullups routine. They wrap around the wrist.
I bought the daughter a set of 3 pound hand weights last year as a Christmas present. She uses them for her Jillian Michaels video workouts.

These days I don't believe in paying for a gym membership since I am seldom home(only slept there a little over a dozen days in the last year, love ping pong and darts at the club house). Was too busy using up my year round Disney pass. Last time I had a gym membership, I went to all 12 Lifetime Fitness gyms to get in a final workout and see what they all looked like. Here is one of several places I work out at. Been visiting it off and on in my 6 years that I have been retired. Some years alligators are there, other years remote controlled sailboats sail by. There is a paved walking path around the lake.

However, to say that it doesnt help with weight loss is crazy. One product has >200 cal per 20oz, the other has like 10.
came to post this exact same thing. of course jyms gonna jyms in this thread, but thats to be expected.

I love how something with such a lack of nutrients ( in fact it has negative nutrients) can be considered something good for you because of what it doesn't have in it. Even plain tap water would have far better benefits for you than diet soda. ( I hate tap water FWIW ) Switching from Sugared soda to diet isn't going to cause you weight loss, it's just going to stop you from weight gain and will provide nothing in terms of health. I would also like to point out that it has been proven that diet soda causes blood sugar/insulin swings even though there is no sugar present. These swings may be ok for healthy individuals with a properly functioning pancreas and good insulin reception. When you are susceptible to metabolic diseases or Syndrome X as some refer then diet soda is not a weight loss aid.

Oh and fuck nutritionists, they know shit so long as they have to follow USDA guidelines and

Curious -- why? Is it just a taste thing for you? What do you drink instead? I pretty much only drink water -- from the tap, but filtered. Except when I drink booze, of course.

Some study earlier this year showed that drinking a lot of diet soda may actually contribute to obesity. The theory is that it confuses your brain -- the brain senses sweetness and expects sugar (calories). When those calories don't arrive, the brain starts to assume that everything you eat works the same way (low in calories), so it makes your body crave more food in general, to compensate. Google "diet soda tricks brain" and you'll find tons of articles on it.

I am not a fan of drinking chlorine and fluoride, so I started going to a spring to fill water jugs years ago for my son when he stopped breast feeding. I go to one here in Ontario about every 2 months and fill 10 jugs (18 liters) and 10x1 gallon glass wine jugs. It costs me about $13 round trip

Here he is on one trip

If you ever want to do this here is a great site.FindaSpring.com – Online Spring Database

Minnesota has some good tasting water right out of the tap. Like it in the winter because it is so cold right from the tap.
For my daughter in Florida, I fill up a jug of water and leave it in the fridge overnight. The sediments and grit sink to the bottom and the water tastes much better than straight from the tap.
I have visited alot of cities in my life and make it a point to drink water from other cities to expose my body to different environments. I believe it helps my immunity system as I have not gotten sick several times when almost every member of a family will come down with the same flu bug. But that could also be due to old age and having a healthy immune system from my lifestyle, but I think having an exposure to water from many cities has helped in my life.
And if it did not help me drinking water from many cities, I at least drank water instead of soda/pop for a moment. And 2 liters of any liquid in a body, does not leave much room in my stomach to complain about feeling hungry.
