Remember all the funs we had back in 2010?
Let's do it again. This could be the official 2014 FIFA World Cup discussion thread, too.

As it happens I like our squad, I think we have a decent chance of making an impact in 2018, because we have a young squad who will gain valuable experience this year in Brazil. But we're nowhere near good enough yet to compete with Germany, Spain and Argentina. We'd need to get very lucky to even make the semis.

Oh right you have Brad Guzan, Tim Howard and DaMarcus Beasley. I've heard of three, and two of them play in the EPL.

I'm probably not gonna bother with this actually. I'm boycotting the WC because FIFA are a bunch of cunts. It just doesn't seem right that the world will be cheering on their heroes for kicking a ball about in a shiny new stadium while people are struggling to feed and protect their children on the outskirts of the same cities the football is being played at. There's a lot wrong with the way the world works, and the WC has unfortunately been hijacked by a corrupt organisation whose only concern is profit.

We need a trusted escrow and somebody to pick the teams randomly (this person obviously can't be participating in the pool). Any volunteers?

I want a team. Has to stand up for the principles of libery and freedom on the world stage. Has to be a paragon of open dialect and a warrior for a better world.

Yeah but every now and then, the weaker team sneaks a draw in a friendly because the superior team are complacent or experimenting. Who'd have though crappy England could have sneaked a draw against the mighty Ecuador?

Aussie vs Dutchies, an entertaining match with just about everything in it, from terrible refereeing (horrible decision to award Holland a penalty), the awesome Cahill goal, keeper error that resulted in Holland's winning goal, and all in all Australia showing terrific resilience and spirit.

This world cup will be staying in the South America. Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, chile all are playing very competetive football this world cup. Only Nethearland and Germany are showing champion like game from europe. |

I believe the top euro teams will run circles around the south-american ones. We will see. When Muller scored the third goal for Germany, they didn't even celebrate. That's a very particular kind of response in an event as big as the World Cup, almost as if they know these are just chores to be done before the finals.

I think this WC should be really great for soccer support in the US. This has been an incredibly exciting WC in general, which could win over anyone who happened to watch games that don't have murrica in them (I'm especially thinking teenagers who have nothing better to do with their summer vacation than to see what this soccer business is all about; it's much harder to come away thinking it's boring this year than those who've watched in years' past). US themselves has been involved in a couple of good games; they've had about as many lead changes in the first two games than they'd scored goals in the last two WCs combined (I'm exaggerating ... I think). US got to get a "revenge win" against a very random rival in Ghana, who'd eliminated them from consecutive WCs.
