4hrs of plo mtt-ness to crash and burn in 25th is soul-wrenching...

Falling asleep in my tent next to a river listening to the water roll by = my thursday night. Landing a hard-fighting salmon and then an ok sized kahawai was my friday morning. Friday night was all about eating fish and drinking beer.
Saturday and it was climbing in the sun, swimming in a decent ocean swell = my yesterday at local long beach. Nice. Then night came and i was drinking whiskey with friends after they cooked up a feast.
now it's sunday. Breakfast included the last of the tasty fresh fish. I may play some ring-game poker soon, or not. See how i feel. Maybe i'll go out and try and hook into some trout instead. The MTT session was net-losing i think, close tho. ahh, variance.

    Things are pretty cool.

withdrew more money. Rolling low again until i cash in some points or medals or something. I've been withdrawing $700/week since i got back from asia (various reasons withdrawing vs keeping online and moving up). That's a lot for 25nl to sustain

Managed to run my big overpairs into sets 7 times in 3b or 4b pots the last two days.
ahhhhhhhh, poker. You're a sexy piece of work.

I found a house i think i want to buy. Not sure how poker and banks and mortgages fit together. Should be interesting.

edit: seconds after moaning about sets in 3b pots this happened, I know villain very well and his range is exactly 77 and he will put me on TT+ and will never fold even 200bb deep

$700/week is ultra sexy, but why not just move up?

xmas was a fun 24/12 feast and booze scene that ended up with me falling asleep outside in front of a fire and been woken by my girlfriend to come to bed at some late hour.
25/12 was more food, a long ride, some beach time, some trout fishing (caught enough), and an evening of chill. This morning was trout for breakfast, coffee, some poker grind (+7bi of games were pretty good) and now i'm too drunk to play. Not a problem tho, a friend is flying in about an hour from now and we'll probably just hit some drinking madness.
    Another year almost done.

maybe 1.5k hands? i mean, he can have 33 and AA here sometimes too, but it's mostly 77 and he's probably not folding any of those holdings. I mean, AA=33 here, right

no problem, i'd be interested too.

Life is kinda roller coaster at the moment and i'm tilt-prone at the best of times. Combine that with having taken seven weeks off to holiday/climb during september and october (with zero poker=income) in asia and i've decided to simply take a simple casual wage until i sort a bunch of my non-poker shit out. From a long-term profit perspective this staying at 25nl makes no sense at all. And it's definitely not something i plan on doing past Jan 2011.

I need a fitness prop bet for jan 11 - where should I post? Resurrect the old the prop bet thread? I will put up $50 which is like 1/7th of my BR right now 'cuz I need to get freakin' serious about losing weight and gaining fitness.

Glad the xmas was good on your side of the sphere - we had awesomements here, too. Best.

cheers for the music links! quite a different style, sounds all folk festival. Cool banjo skills!

ok. Poker in 2010. Bit of a poker letdown really. A quick look through my records shows that i withdrew $4k in Dec 09 and $25k in the 2010 calendar year. I had more roll at the start of the year than now though. Stakes ranged from micro through a few hands at 200nl and back to micro again. Results were gross. Tilt was rampant. I had about 3 months off poker (plus various days/weekends/etc in between bigger breaks). I played quite a few hands and won sfa at the tables. I received a bunch of rakeback and bonuses and stuff. Poker has allowed me a fairly relaxing year outside of poker, but, meh, the poker itself has been disappointing on all fronts - financial and otherwise.

ok. Life in 2010. Pretty fucking cool really.

    2011
is 4hrs away. Not sure what i'll make of it re poker. January I'll obviously clear my end year $500 bonus, then probably a $600 medal bonus. I've got enough FTPs to buy $6k in black card bonus too - hoping for a new year announcement that they'll become insta-clear. Poker has helped me learn a lot about myself and this is cool. I know how to get better, i know how to play to an ok level, i know how to quit sessions. So, pretty much nothing stopping me from doing ok at poker. If that's what i choose to do.

anyway, 2011 is 4hrs away. And i've only had a few beers. My girlfriend has my car and is turning up in a few minutes and then we head out to bring in the new year.

    see y'all later.

my flatmate moved to auckland, so i was home alone.
but now i somehow have three friends crashing here for a while.
Two are climbers i've known over a decade, and the other is the girlfriend of one of them (also a strong climber = she's climbed 5.12) and i've known her 3 years now too. All are awesome. And i live upstairs from a climbing wall, and within quick striking distance of a few good crags. My body is thrashed today from two heavy training sessions at the wall yesterday (it rained in the am, so rock was too wet outside). Oh, they all ride bikes pretty hardcore too. Different flavours though, two are all lycra carbon fibre ftw, the other has a crazy bouncy bike and is somewhat crazy.
Fun to have an outdoor freak scene in my spare room, on my mezzanine, in my lounge...

and poker. Played some so far this year. 3ptBB/100 over 10k, plus cashed the rtr freeroll, plus cleared about $100 of my endyear ironman bonus. Moving back to 50nl shortly, sometime this week.

2011 is good thus far, pretty psyched on mostly everything at the moment

Jan is starting with some volume at 25nl.
    +$350ish at tables
    +$100ish rakeback
+$300ish cleared of my end year bonus
    +$75 ironman tourney.

poker is fun. Summer is funner. Haven't been surfing yet in 2011, need to remedy that asap.

month is 1/3 done. Going to finish clearing my end-year bonus then move up. Going to start grinding a 6-max roll again on another site too. Things are great on the fitness front.
here's what 2011 so far playing 30k hands look like (32hrs), i'm glad i'm also clearing a bonus (clearing at almost 2ptBB/100!) that isn't affecting MGR + cashed the ironman tourney + etc.

perhaps a bit silly to wait until the bonus clears before i move up.
38k hands at 3.5pt now - mostly running 12-15 tables, another 7k hands to finish clearing the bonus if i don't move up.

i've managed to tighten the fuck up and get some more aggro at the same time. Running 18-14-4 over that sample. Three cheers for fullring nittery!

I always wonder about this, and maybe its different for full ring players.

But do you have any reasonable sample (>50k hands), that says that your total winnings if you played 6-8 tables (higher winrate?) wouldn't actually be more than 12-15 tabling with bonuses?

I feel like for me I have X number of tables that I can play very well, but any number of table beyond that its a huge spike down in performance, ability to pay attention, like jumping off a cliff drop in winrate.

I suppose my argument would be that its less stressful to play less tables, but if you're nitting it up with more I suppose it might not be.

ja, it's interesting re what's best for hourly and I think you're right. I just told myself that to kick off 2011 i'd clear my year-end bonus at 25nl then move up. Didn't realise it would take so long (seems that FTP bonus clearing requirements have changed some). About 4hrs of play left to get it done and dusted.

Re greater winrate, i do know that i seem to have a higher winrate now that i single-site and play mostly only 13 tables - if i dropped more i wouldn't loosen up cos i feel that an 18vpip is already close to borderline at fullring in the games i sit in, and I'm pretty sure this will have to drop down to close to 15 as I move into tougher games again and more of the 'neutral in a vacuum' spots become -EV. With less tables I do think my winrate will improve, I think optimum on the winrate vs # tables -> net hourly is probably around 10 for me at FR and last time i Partied it was about 6 for 6-max. PLO shorthanded and all i really know is that 16-tabling is more fun than profitable

I read a great comment by Bbickies a while back about people wasting their lives mega-tabling, when going crazy on table volume should really be the resort of people who feel they have reached their limits in terms of stakes. I'm going to drop to mostly 8-10 initially at 50nl, and probably move up to 100nl doing the same sometime during February. 8-tabling 100nl clears bonuses faster (say $25/hr?) than 13-tabling 25nl ($10/hr) anyway. I was kinda hoping FTP would make their BC bonuses insta-clear, but they haven't so i'll be clearing bonuses while playing for the indefinite future (or however long $6.5k takes to clear anyway...).

Really though, what the hell am i doing even sitting at 25nl. I mean, shit, my best stake results-wise is 50nl, i'm an ok winner over a decent sample there, and I withdraw a 50nl roll every few weeks. Dumb.

    finished clearing the year-end bonus
ran terri-bad in cooler spots the last 5k hands
ended up being 44k hands of 25nl at 3.2ptBB at the tables, and another 3ptBB in bonus+rakeback
    time for 50nl.

anyway, a photo from a day when i was the only one out about two minutes walk from my girlfriend's place - not sure why she was beaching rather than out in the water. Great conditions for playing with a 6'3" fish imo

fyp, here's hoping it continues like this.... funny that i have tightened up by default cos less fish means less easily profitable spots. If i'm not careful i'll actually have to start playing poker soon

    Pretty sweet bonus imo.

Regarding the AA hands why bother posting them? Stuff like that is something which you have no control over + doesn't help to think about it too much.
