    Default Operation: TRIPLE D

    define 'Triple D' :

    Discipline, Dedication, Determination.

    Outline:
-This operation will revolved around 'Triple D'
-6-8 tables of FR will be played
-In the near future HU/6max will be played more often (particularly when I get close to being fully rolled for $400nl+
-Moving up in stakes isn't a maybe, it's a must.
-My biggest project will be finding and maintaining a well balanced life and attaining a new level of emotional control.
-Studying is going to become more of a priority once again.
-Sessions will NOT exceed a time of 2 hours and 15 minutes. There is NO excuse for not taking a break at this point.
-I will be closely monitoring my emotional state while playing and keeping a eye on whether or not my decisions being made are made with my brain as opposed to my heart.
-My bankroll will have 100 buy ins for my main stake (i.e I play $50nl-$200nl, my main stake is $100nl).
-I am a professional now, and must act like one - this includes a more professional approach to Bankroll Management as well as the quality and tone of my posts on FTR.

    Goals:
    [ ] Play well
[ ] Follow a more structured post session review
    [ ] Improve emotional control
[ ] Improve my technical understanding of the game
[ ] Stick to my new gym schedule and keep my training journal fully updated.
    [ ] $400-$600-$1,000nl(?) regular by 2011

Profit isn't a concern, I don't need money - I need power. Power involves a more thorough understanding of the game and proper execution of this understanding at the tables. Profit will follow with power.

    Time to get powerful.

    January Goals:

[] sessions will not exceed 2 hours and 15 minutes
    [] play 100,000 hands
[] watch the entire pr1nnyraiding series on DC and take thorough notes
[] watch the entire pr1nnyraiding S2 series on DC and take thorough notes
[] get through watching at least 3 episodes of Tommy Angelo's video series
[] update my weight training journal after every workout (3 days a week)
[] post 5 hands in my blog and do some sort of analysis on them, even if it's just plugging something into stove or finding out the b/e point on a bluff I need to do something at the very least.
[]TRY QUITTING a session just ONE TIME earlier than planned when I feel subtle tilt creep in.

Speaking of Vegas I actually plan on going down there for a bit in May. It would be pretty cool to meet some fellow FTR'ers, so keep me posted on your travels and where you're at!

Okay so I figure I should post my goals for this month to keep me on track so I remember why I'm here.

I'll copy/past each month's goals onto my main page of this operation. Then if I don't complete a goal I will leave it unchecked and underneath provide an explanation of why this is so. I hope this method will be more effective in moving forwards and making some progress in regards to learning.

    Hand 1 for review:

    $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Holdem
    2 Players
    Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com

    Stacks:
    SB Hero ($58.40)
    BB marcizzz707 ($48.40)

    Pre-Flop: ($0.75, 2 players) Hero is SB
Hero raises to $1.50, marcizzz707 raises to $2.50, Hero calls $1

    Flop: ($5, 2 players)
    marcizzz707 bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

    Turn: ($6, 2 players)
    marcizzz707 bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

    River: ($7, 2 players)
    marcizzz707 bets $3.50, Hero calls $3.50

    Final Pot: $14

Villain in this hand is super loose, pretty aggro preflop (min re-raising alot) but is very passive postflop and also a HUGE station (has called ten high on river to a sizable bet when he missed his draw, doesn't bet much etc. He has shown A3o in a min re-raised pot, so I think it's safe to say on the river he can have A2-AK.

This is the first time I have seen him take this line (he bet/called the flop with 84 no pair no draw before though it wasn't a re-raised pot) so I decided to just call down given the sweet price, and I could be good here fairly often. I'd probably raise AQ/AK for value on the flop if I happen to call pre, though I'm most likely 4betting these hands.

On the river it looks a lot like he's value betting an ace. If he hit AJ on the turn I think I can assume he'd just bet it bigger. As for having 9x, it's possible, and perhaps I should include just a few combos in his range. Though when he bets the river this size I feel as though he usually just has one pair or is bluffing the ace, if he had a boat/trips he would likely get excited and bet really big - which seems to be quite typical of these players.

Here I will assume his range for betting the river is only Ax without AJ or A9:

    Board: 9d 5s 9h Jh Ac
    Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 39.474% 00.00% 39.47% 0 30.00 { As7c }
    Hand 1: 60.526% 21.05% 39.47% 16 30.00 { AQs+, ATs, A8s-A2s, AQo+, ATo, A8o-A2o }

We have about 40% equity vs this range and we only need about 25% to call [bet/bet+pot = 3.5/(3.5+10.5], so it becomes a clear call.

Okay now what if he bets AJ and A9 like this?

equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 34.884% 00.00% 34.88% 0 30.00 { As7c }
    Hand 1: 65.116% 30.23% 34.88% 26 30.00 { A2s+, A2o+ }

What is interesting to note is our equity barely changes when he now has AJ and A9 in his range (combinatorics ftw!) and we should still call it off.

Adding T9s and 98s into his range still gives us roughly 33% equity, and given the amount of KT type hands he could be turning into a bluff on this river (or Jx hands that he thinks he is value betting) this is a pretty trivial call.

Playing 50nl for a bit to work on a few leaks that have crept into my game.

I will be back at 100nl for the weekend, then re-evaluate how I played on Monday, and decide whether or not to stay there based on the results.

My game has been a wreck lately. I dunno how I'm going to go about getting better anymore, I just suck on so many levels it makes me want to vomit.
  15. #15
Heh, I doubt that. And why are you playing $50NL? Haven't you won a bazilion buy-ins @ $100NL and several @ $200NL, too? If you really want to "work on your game", why not play 4 to 6 tables @ $100NL?

Well I keep making tons of bad mistakes, spewing, and I'm b/e over my last 50-60k hands or so. Just don't have it in me to I guess, I need to get a grip on a few things first, in fact, I've already started playing 6max and HU, so I'll see where that takes me.

I was just running good at 200nl, I imagine I'm a slight loser there.

crush 50nl or 100nl for 10k hands, move back up feeling good.
and breakeven at 200nl over a significant sample = a player who crushes 50nl/100nl = someone who is one leak away from beating 200nl.

Wonder how much of it is to do with adjustment = both regs vs you and you in response to various table types.
talk to you about this next time we're both in irc if you want

    10k hands of 50nl, - 8ish buyins. [ ] crushing.

I'm sick of full ring. I'm sick of not getting better at poker. I probably won't play much FR until I'm playing 200nl 6max and am actually a decent player and confident with my game. I'm sick of just sitting here going nowhere making zero progress (if anything moving backwards). I need a few days to clear my head and perhaps start focusing exclusively on SHNL games which is an idea I've tossed around a bit but just kinda gave up due to sucking so badly at them. SO..no more being a pussy, it's time to try harder, and put more effort into shit rather than expecting it to be placed in front of me.

Massively grinding small stakes isn't where I want to be at the end of the year, and if I am, I'll fucking quit this shit because no one wants to play 100nl for multiple years straight hating their life and knowing they suck so badly at what they would consider at that point, their 'profession'.

    Ok so,

Monday-Thrusday: Play HU/6max. Review hands, etc. Friday-Saturday vacation. Sunday mass table FR to take advantage of the many, many retards playing. Then back to SH games at the beginning of the week.

Breaking it down into a daily routine:

    2hrs - gym/leisure time
    2hrs - sesh
    1.5hrs - watch a video/review
    2hrs - sesh
0.5hrs - review or read something
1-3hrs - find some HU action, read, do some review or w/e, just chill out, or if no HU action happens perhaps just mass table FR for a bit for VPPs.

Not inserting time slots since I have no idea when I'm going to wake up.

Oh and one more thing, LETS TRY USIN' A LIL' POKERSTOVE ONEEEE TIMEEEEEE

I'll post some hands and shit in here, even if they are obvious, I gotta run some more maths.

    Peace guys, go me.

    Update:

I haven't really played poker at all this month. Been doing other things a lot, and all the poker related stuff I'm involved in includes mostly studying and review, with playing hands a lower priority.

I've been focusing on heads up lately, and am learning a ton about poker and myself. I think taking the low volume approach is going to give my game another boost forward since I haven't really gotten better over the past month. At the moment shifting into heads up has me playing 50nl. 6max and full ring are being played to aid in bankroll building, and I will be picking up the volume next week. Confidence is really important when moving up in stakes, and with heads up, I'd like to confidently be able to lose 5-10 buy ins and have such an occurrence have virtually no impact on my bankroll or my mindset. Given that I don't have a job, I'm looking at having a much larger bankroll than what most of you guys carry.

Anyway, I'm not ready to be dipping into midstakes yet. I figure I need to learn a ton more, and roughly triple my bankroll (i.e. get more experience). So until then, I'll post updates on my progress. I'm starting to get a better handle on the technical aspects of the game and have discovered alot of leaks in need of attention. I'll be working on moving forward throughout the next few weeks. If I don't see any progress by March I'll probably just resort back to mass tabling full ring for the rest of the year to make monies, but I have a good feeling that isn't going to happen.

This weekend should be fun, booked a suite in Toronto and am looking forward to seeing friends from school. I'll update with a trip report if it's worthwhile.

    Peace guys

    Thanks.

So I took Fri/Sat off from poker to go to Toronto to visit some friends and just have a nice little vacation.

Tomorrow I'll be looking at playing a minimum of 5000 hands of full ring to get this bonus clearing underway. It's quite likely I'll be doing a few 7-8k hand days next week because my monthly volume has essentially been non-existent. Then once I clear my bonus, I'll shift back to focusing more on heads up while playing 6max on the side. The first two weeks of this month were essentially relax and slack off time, but the final two are going to revolve around poker now.

Attention Mod's: please lock this thread, ty.

Neither of the 3 D's have been satisfied this month yet and it's halfway over. Confirmed fail.

I may do another one of these later in the year, but it's unlikely in the near future until I straighten things out.

    Don't give up!
