Played pretty well yesterday and ended up losing but that's fine. I'm getting played back a lot at the times I don't have anything so I know it'll all even out.

Today, I've played pretty well as well except for 1 pot. I tried to get "fancy" and outplay a thinking player (which would have worked). Basically he repped nothing but only had 30bb left and I thought he was capable of convincing himself to call with Ahi. I folded (After floating and calling his c/r on the turn with Jhi). He showed Thi. GG him. Still finished up a little. I'm playing really aggressively lately preflop and trying to play a much tighter game postflop which I think the 10NL games are set up to be.

Hey Harley how's it going? Well, I sort of know because I've been reading your blog but just keep at it man. Don't let anything get you down.

As for me, I'm on real-life tilt. I'll talk about that in a sec.

First I said I'd write about my gf's surprise 21st bday party. I won't actually give huge details but it was really well planned and my gf had no idea. I got her out of her apartment to see a buddy of mine that lives near her. He actually lives really close to her (within walking distance) which is weird because I haven't seen him in forever and I don't go to that school. Anyways, my friend doesn't really know my gf but I tell him what's up and he has a really really good pretend story on "where we are going" that night. Basically, he says we're going to a Jersey Shore party that his friend is having.

So once I get the heads up from her roommate via text I say that it times to go to this party but let's stop and get some alcohol at my gf's apartment. We get there, door's locked, gf is confused, someone opens the door and the whole place is pitch black. They turn on the lights and boom my gf starts crying in happiness haha. A good amount of people showed up and traveled long distances to see her which made her feel very good.

The downside is that a few sorority girls are there(who no one really likes as they are, well, exactly what you think sorority girls are). We immediately go into some flip cup and me and my gf are drinking way too strong of drinks for our cups but I'm down whatever. After a few rounds I lose sight of the gf as she makes her rounds to say hi and thank everyone. I get loads of people saying "oh wow good luck with your gf tonight" because apparently she's drinking a lot already. I look across the room and boom the sorority girls are literally shoving tequila down her throat. I later found out that they convinced my gf to chug the rest of the tequila bottle as well.

Even longer story short, my gf blacks out within the FIRST hour (10:30) and is unconscious. I, and a few friends, take care of her for the rest of the night as she periodically wakes up and just pukes everywhere the whole night. Yayyyy I get to sleep with her! Anyways, I made a few posts about how I hate those sorority girls because one of them was my gf's old best friend and roommate last year yet NONE of them even check up on her. They leave the party as soon as most of the alcohol is gone and go find another party. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Now on to my life tilt. I missed my first rec league bball game last week to stay for my gf's surprise bday party. My best friend is mad because our team isn't good and I'm one of the better players. I say I'm sorry but I just have to stay. Then, I travel to the VCU/Wake Forest basketball game at Wake to watch my rams destroy Wake. Well my best friend is pissed I went without him even though he would have traveled by himself because I was in Blacksburg. He's also pissed that I can't make his cousin's bachelor's party when I told him I could in the morning just not at night. He's really thinking I'm putting my gf over him which is not true it's just hard because she lives so far away and when she's in town I have to see her. He also has a gf and a ton of friends so it's not like I'm leaving him lonely. BUT, he really is my best friend and I'd HATE for us to fall apart. It' just hard to balance seeing the gf, seeing the best friend and poker. I pretty much lost all ties with my other friends which is sad.

So you've seen how crappy the poker is going but oh well that is what it is. I'm working on it and I am confident I'll get it figure out.

Now for the lecture. I can't tell you how scary your story is to me about your girlfriend. I'll tell you a quick story about when I was in high school and another about when I was a cop. Two days before Christmas my sophmore year my best friend and I get invited to party with my older brother and all his jock friends. Of course we take him up on it and head out to party. Well long story short my buddy disappears about an hour into the party and well we're partying so who really cares. I get really wasted and party until about 3am go home and hit the sack. Well next thing I know I wake up and hear all kinds of commotion coming from down stairs. My mother is crying I hear what sounds like a small army of people and everybody is crying hysterically. So I stumble down the stairs and in my living room are about 12 of my buddy's family members. They inform me he is in the emergency room in a coma and doctors don't know if he's going to make it. Well about 30 hours later, and I sat by his side every minute he comes out of the coma, thank god. I was so scared the entire time. Doctors and nurses were heartless to me and showed me now sympathy at all. Fortionatly my buddy survived!

Now fast forward 25+ years later and I am patrolling the streets of small town USA. I respond to the scene of what was a MIP party. We meet with one of the two brothers who live at the residence. He and a bunch of his friends along with his younger brother had a party the night before. He says his brother got really wasted drinking beer and hard alcohol. Well they have to carry his ass upstairs early and put him to bed. He tells us they took turns checking on him as they partied throughout most of the night. Well when one of the other guys got a phone call from his father telling him to get his butt home his buddy went upstairs to wake his brother and get a ride home. Problem was the brother wouldn't respond, he was a funny color and had a mass of bubbles coming out of his mouth and flowing down his cheek and chest.
There were 4 buddys and the older brother seated in the living room when we carried that 19 year olds body down the stairs and out the door. I had to speak with the young mans father on the phone as he was on vacation. I'd had done may notifications at this point in my career but damn I sure didn't want to do this over the phone. You see I had a son at home about the same age and just couldn't imagine getting a phone call like this.
I remember sitting with these 5 young men and I'll admit I cried with these guys. I tried to explain to them that this was why I had busted their balls in the past. I told them that I didn't like busting their balls but I sure the hell didn't like carrying their buddy out the door in a body bag either.

Sorry this is getting way to long and to be honest it's hard to rehash. I am sure it sounds like a lecture and well I guess it is. But just like when I sat with those boys afterwards I really want/wanted to make sure if there was any chance I could prevent this from happening to somebody else I was going to give it my all!

    Sorry for the rant!

Thanks Harley. I really appreciate your stories/lectures/advice. What scares the crap out of me is that yeah my gf had bubbles coming out of her mouth at the time. Did this guy in your second story die? SO sad about your buddy too. I made sure last night (when she celebrated legally) that she didn't drink much at all. She did too by telling everyone she was much more drunk than she was. That's so crazy PS I feel like I should write something about poker but tbh I had a virus on my laptop when I was on vacation so haven't been able to really study much. Plus just been really busy and a buddy of mine had his bachelor's party today in which I only went to the morning part (golf). I'm hoping to study/play early next week but Wed-Fri I'll be gone again for Thanksgiving in Charlotte, NC. Speaking of NC...HAHAHAHAHA UNC.!!!! And a big bball game vs. Georgetown tomorrow! My gf's good friend is on their team so she's rooting against us but mehhhhh go Wolfpack!

kmind glad to hear you made it to the bachlor party after all I know you were stressing about it.

Yes unfortionatly the 19 year old young man was dead the next morning when his buddy tried to wake him for a ride home.

Solid day yesterday and then barely losing day today but happy with my play still. Got showdown some really weird things I wasn't expecting. Got some 4bets flatted twice vs. "regs", getting a ton of AA/KK but no action, etc. Yesterday I hit just about every set on the flop so was definitely running well above normal then.

Had some good and bad news.

Bad news - went to war with an aggro reg.

Good news - although he actually adjusted better than any other 10NL reg. I've seen, I felt like I adjusted much better.

Bad news - I think I misplayed a hand vs. him and will have to study it more.

    Good news - beat him.

Bad news - was very distracted for the first part of the sessions where I started off losing 2 buyins.

    Does not compute...

So yeah 1 hand was with AK and the other was a bluff in which I flopped trips. Easy game. Of course they fold when I hit and shoved when I whiffed the AK.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I got some good presents and it snowed which rarely happens on actual Christmas day in Virginia. I'm lazy so my main present was an inexpensive projector. I love it; the picture is by far clear enough for me. Add that to my surround sound system I got last year and boommmm. Had my brother and his dog stay with us the past couple of days which was great. Also saw some good friends. Only missing the girlfriend who's with her family.

Anyways, let's brag! I made it to the championship games in my 2 fantasy football leagues (12 team and 10 team league). I'm up 51 with no remaining players left vs. the eagles D and Harvin. I'm PRETTY sure I should be ok but crazy things can happen. I'm happy in that league as Adrian Peterson missed both playoff games, yet I have enough fire power to compensate.

In the other league I'm down 13 with McCoy left but he has Vick . This league was with a lot of new people in it so each team has only 9 starters and I have 3 inactives of Jones-Drew, Antonio Gates and Andre Johnson. Not to mention I had Kitna at QB who left his game at halftime .

I barely played this month with it being so busy but I'm happy with my results so far:

Alright guys and gals, finished the month up a little more than the graph posted above and posted in the BC. Moved back up to 25NL for the time being and doing alright in very little hands.

Just letting everyone know that I am currently searching to be staked at 25NL 6max. I created a thread in the staking forums and if anyone is interested please either reply there or PM me. I really think it will benefit both myself and the staker. Any questions just let me know!

So it looks like I'M GRIFFEY'S NEW BITCH. I have a thread in the staking forum that will deal with my actual results. This is one time where I HAVE to be results oriented. Weird.

I have so many plans of writing random strat stuff here I just hope I actually finally do it.

And still doing well at 25NL in very few hands.
  20. #170
GL man! Sounds like this will def be a great opportunity for you.

Was just reading through the staking forum. Tried to post in the thread there but for some reason couldn't

Will be following your progress for sure. Btw, if you're interested in doing a prop on hands/month or hours/month let me know

Haha we can't let FTR's stakes look bad! No way will that happen.

And kfaess - I'm probably down with that only to ensure I complete my 75k hands in a reasonable amount of time. The prop money will come from my own BR of course so griff won't lose money there but will have to talk to him about it.

Alright off to see the gf! Gl everyone.

he spent the stake money buying his girlfriend an engagement ring. She's pregnant. He's planning on their kid beating Durrrr HU in 2030 and you'll get the money back + plenty of interest sometime after that happens. You'll be able to use the money to buy incontinence pads. All's well that ends well.

haha awesome. Though by that time, kmind's kid will have to play durrr's kid HU. Though who really knows if Durrr's kid > Durrr at that point.

Hey buddy congrats on the staking. I think that says something about what ppl think of you here at FTR! Nice compliment imo. Will you be tracking your progress in here for that as well?

Hey you guys (YouTube - hey you guys)

griff - I had literally 0 internet at the gf's. Usually I get very slow internet and can't even log into my poker accounts but they went over their bandwidth limit or something for the month so they shut down their internet. I'm back now! Plus, when I visit her now she'll be at school where she has much faster internet . Sorry about that! I'll easily play in the morning.

daven - I almost made a reply here saying what you were saying but not sure I should be joking about any of that! haha.

Harley - thanks man! That's a very nice compliment indeed. I was hesitant to ask for a stake here mainly because of fear of rejection. But griff is the man!

I'll be tracking stuff most likely here but definitely in the staking thread. If I feel like making random ramblings or poker strat. I'll definitely post it here.

Oh yeah almost forgot! I finally landed my first job interview for next Tuesday. The lady giving me it is a boss of my mom so props to my momma for helping me! I also don't really know exactly what I'd be doing but it will involve title searching for property and stuff.
  28. #178
GL kmind, with life and poker and jobs - all the best.

Over the weekend, I believe I'll find my way over to the staking thread so I can follow the news.

    Me too

    Dammit griffey!

It's alright though. I'm trying hard to not to look at all-inEV and a few other things that may go to my head.

Interview at 9:30 in the morning tomorrow (technically today). I is scurred!

    Good luck on the interview!

haha damn I know all these people that go days without checking results. I don't even get how that's possible. Can't even count the number of times I grind a session in the red back to even and quit! haha

    1. KQs:
J65r flop is great vs the reg in the blinds. His range will be extremely weak even if he hits because a lot of his range is 77-TT. He probably doesn’t have many Jx hands in his range besides AJ and QJs. I do not think he flats with KJs but that can be debated.

The problem is the fish running 54/3. He has folded 1/3 times to a flop cbet. He’s really aggressive (raises/bets flop 12/17 times so far) so I really do not think he has air. I don’t have any specific reads on this computer (I transferred my HH to my laptop) so for now we’ll assume that he’s the opposite of a TAG. He’ll bet/raise his air and draws and flat his strong hands.

On the turn I pick up some nice nut equity plus I feel like I may have at least a little bit of FE. Once he minraises the turn he most definitely has at least two pair IMO. Easy call due to pot odds and feeling like he’ll call in shove on the river if I hit a heart or T.

After reviewing my play with CardRunnersEV, it is +EV on all streets as long as on any heart or T river he calls my all-in. Because I have him pegged on a really strong hand I think this is pretty much the case. If I make it so he only calls like 80% of the time then it’s still +EV.

    2. KJo:
This hand is weird. Obviously I rep barely anything but a flush draw but at these stakes it is easier to get Regs off of hands. He’s playing 21/21 over a few hands and has raised the BU 2/3 times so far. His smallish raise makes me think he’s a reg.

Anyways, this flop barely hits a BU stealer. Let’s say he’s stealing 44% (which is probably too tight) and his range is AA-22,AKo-A2o,KQo-K9o,QJo-Q9o,JTo-J8o,T9o-T8o,98o-97o,87o,76o,65o,54o,AKs-A2s,KQs-K7s,QJs-Q9s,JTs-J8s,T9s-T7s,98s-97s,87s-86s,76s-75s,65s-64s,54s,43s, then he hits air/A-hi 72% of the time on this board. Seeing the Q is a lot better than seeing an A/K/J/T fwiw given that range.

Keep in mind that he was pretty agro on flops so once he flatted I felt like he didn’t have many draws as he’d most likely reship but I could be wrong. He can definitely have a full house or quads as well as his most likely holding of TPGK+. On the turn I hit what looks to be showdown equity but probably not given what range I think he’s on. I decide to bluff it with a draw to the second nut flush as well as 2 Jack outs. If his most likely holding is TP then I hope I can get some FE for it.

Once he flats my turn bet I know he has something extremely good and the hand is over.

    3. 99:
I felt like I could some value on the flop and he can fold a ton of hands and what not which is why I think in a vacuum cbetting the flop is +EV.

On the turn, I tend to b/f a lot but this is just dumb. His range on that board is very tight. All of his TPs beat me and I only beat very few combos of middle pairs. He can also have straights and two pairs. After stoving, I think c/f is by far the best play.

hand 1- i like the way it was played, i doubt you have any FE if you shove the turn, but you are already getting good odds to draw to your straight/flush so wp imo. The A of hearts was a great barrel card.

hand 2- seems like a play i would make but i do not think that is a good thing lol. But i like your point about how often he is giong to have air here, obviously he knows you arent really repping much either. But yea i do not mind the raise, also i like the barrel on the Jc as it hits your range and also gives you equity (although maybe RIO)

hand 3- i would play it the exact same, although looking at your numbers check/fold on the turn is definitely best unless you think hes floating us with whiffed overs and what not then you can check/call, but against any sort of calling range we are pretty fucked.

all in all id say wp ...obv take my advice with a grain of salt

Thanks philly! Even if we're both wrong with how to play these hands at least I can feel assured someone else knowledgeable would do the same.
  52. #202
just read through the reads again, and in hand 1 idk if i would be barreling a fish as he's gonna be calling down with pretty much anything but checking behind all his middle pairs, so id just check/eval based on sizing on that hand. Against someone with Reggy-er stats then i would play it this same way that you did.

hand 1 - KQs. I disagree with your comment about the reg in the blinds that a "lot of his range is 77-TT". Especially when the whale calls, his range is going to be heaps wider with relative position and odds and whale-meat to feast on. Flop c-bet is obviously pretty bad into two opponents when the fish doesn't have a fold button. On the turn you can flag cardrunners EV and just figure it out for yourself (=SERIOUSLY, if you need a program to analyse this turn play then, well, i know you don't need a programm to do so), i think the turn barrel is fine with the A scare card + turned equity - check-decide is ok too. Anyway, once he raises and now you just have to count outs vs odds and implieds on the turn. You have 10 outs to the uber-nuts = you're getting direct pot odds = ez game.

hand 2 - KJo. Folding pre isn't awful - especially if you have post-flop spew issues - nor is 3-betting pre, nor calling. But do you consider all options? I don't really think that seeing a Q is better than seeing a T, but meh, whatever. Aggro on flops is a great read, but over only a few hands? Like, that means you probably have response to 3b stats that are meaningful? or, if the sample is that small then you are taking a big risk in reading too much into his play on two flops. I really don't like turn at all cos i don't really see him folding and you're smoked.

hand 3 - 99. Looks great to me. Seems that you're missing a bunch of flush draws from his range for getting to the turn.
  54. #204
    Hand 1
-KQ I don't mind the cbet, and after turn its pretty straight forward. Can't fold or raise turn, gotta call.

    Hand 2
-I can go either way on this. I'd like the c/r with KcJ better on a board where at least its conceivable you're repping something (Q42cc even > Q44cc) I'd imagine. If I'm going to play it this way though I'm for sure barelling turn and re-eval river.

    Hand 3
-I like the turn barrel, given that all his 7x hands will now call again. THough Tx also makes up a ton of combos in ppl's ranges. (ie: if you look at the number of Tx hands that ppl perceive as playable, its larger than any other hand pretty much. Maybe Ax is close too)

    Thanks guys!

Daven - I don't need the program to analyze anything, I just analyzed a bunch of hands yesterday in it.
KJo hand - yep considered all options and I RARELY flat anything in the blinds tbh but figured I would with a decent hand and good odds. I should have mentioned this earlier but he had raised first on the BU 2/3 times so his flop aggro was high on 10 flops. Not too much more reads but does definitely help. And Q44 board is > T44 board as far as the range I gave him and how often he hit directly on the flop. I do agree that Qhi is barely better and if you think about turn barreling cards then yeah you can say Thi is better.

As for everyone - would guys bet turn bigger in hand 3 if you barrel?
  56. #206
kmind I have no doubt you can turn a handsome profit from this staking deal -- 75k hands is a lot of time at the tables. from the outside looking in I think your biggest problem isn't fundamentally changing your game but persevering through the soul crushing losses without losing confidence in your ability to win and fearlessness to bluff turn/rivers when your opponents range is well defined.

no way, you still dont give good odds for flushes (i think) and this ensures that you keep in his lower pp's ....the turn sizing is one of the things i liked the most tbh....

Cool. That was my intentions just seeing what you all though.

Vi - you are absolutely right. I actually did this stake for this very reason in that I get...scared...to lose so I wanted to prove it to myself really that I can play a ton of hands and be profitable. I'm running poorly right now so I have faith in my stake and I appreciate the kind words man!

Hand 1 - easy flop 3bet and getting it in. Especially to a minraise.

Hand 2 - I don't hate the turn c/c. I can go either way on betting or c/c. River I'm pretty tempted to look this up.

    Hand 3 -yah fold river.

Hand 3 yeah fold river but is turn OK too? A lot of people at these stakes have a pretty tight double barreling range.

And you won't believe what he had in Hand 1 and hand 2 yeah maybe a call on the river is correct. I plan to review these hands harder.

Bleh just had a frustrating day. I "think" i managed to only lose less than a buyin but was disconnected in a 350bbish pot that I lost and isn't showing in HEM. I am happy with how I played overall though and didn't tilt. I quit for a second at one point when I got frustrated but went back at it. May try again later.

I'm having trouble vs. double barrels by regs. This guy is 34/34 cbets 2/3 times over 38 hands. Steal% at 59%. Fold before river?

i wouldn't fold before the turn and could definitely find a call on the river. considering the smallish river betsizing he is repping almost exactly Ax, a narrow range considering he doesn't get to the river with all Ax he opens with and cbets on the flop, AND there are plenty of non Ax draws he could have been barreling on the turn that he would turn into a bluff on the river. he only needs to have a missed draw ~35% i think for a call to be profitable.

Hey Vi - appreciate the response! Yeah I definitely see what you are saying and a call makes a lot more sense now. It seems like everytime I've called preflop and hit TP or 2ndPTK I keep getting triple barreled into recently, and I usually fold the river (obv. thinking they won't fire river unless they have it).

What is your fold to flop cbet %, turn cbet % and then river cbet %?

I'm not sure...I'm on the laptop away from my main database. Remember though, most players at my stakes will have lower turn cbet%/river cbet% than your stakes.

I think so, although the sizing seems optimal if you were to vbet this thin.
Nine to five is how to survive - I ain't trying to survive / I'm trying to live it to the limit and love it a lot //

facepalm i thought the board was Ks 7c 7d....yea spades (which also gives him more Aces) ....i guess he can have 86 and T8, if you think hes doing it with the offsuit version of these hands then sure i guess you can find a call (mebe) but hes gonna have A9o also as well as K9, and basically every Asxs or Adxd, as well as obviously better kings and 7's.

If you think he has the offsuit 86 and T8 then hes gonna have a fuck ton of 7's imo but idk (mebe not with this sizing?)

sorry to hear about the job interview, i know it sounds cliche but keep your head up, good things come to those who wait (god im like a walking hallmark card), but seriously, i do not have any real advice for you other than keep plugging at it (both poker and getting a jerb) you are a smart capable person so in the long run things will work out for sure. Also i agree with what alexos said about the last hand.

    Thanks iLuck (just kidding ).

    Alright a couple of hands:

    1. Villain in this hand is playing 46/27 over 38 hands. Some specific reads is that he defends the bb with 65o/raises pre with QTs. He has also bet on the river with middle pair. Besides this, though, he has been fairly straightforward as in no bluffing/aggression with air.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - Full Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    BB ($16.63)
    UTG ($11.17)
    Hero (MP) ($25.25)
    CO ($25)
    Button ($47.22)
    SB ($47.98)

Preflop: Hero is MP with A, J
1 fold, Hero bets $0.85, 3 folds, BB calls $0.60

    Flop: ($1.80) 6, 8, J (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.50, BB calls $1.50

    Turn: ($4.80) 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $3.25, BB raises to $8.20, Hero raises to $22.90 (All-In)

    2. This guy is playing 63/29 over 50 hands and has been pretty aggressive. I've gotten the best of him in recent hands. He's opened J9 and called a 3bet with it/defends A2. His aggression frequency is 68% on the flop. He has bluffed the river a couple of times as well as value bet(?) weak/bottom pairs.

    UTG ($33.39)
    MP ($25)
    CO ($34.87)
    Button ($16.42)
    Hero (SB) ($42.13)
    BB ($27.75)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A, A
1 fold, MP bets $0.75, CO calls $0.75, 1 fold, Hero raises to $4, 2 folds, CO calls $3.25

    Flop: ($9) 10, 3, 6 (2 players)
Hero bets $5, CO raises to $30.87 (All-In), Hero?

Anyways, I'm working on a few things and hopefully will show a nice result with them. Mainly flop aggression/W$WSF, specifically in the BB.
