Default Operation: Get out of 200nl

The intro to this is long, so if you want to just skip to my goals/objectives, I've bolded those at the end.

    My Poker Story:
I started randomly playing $5 SNGs with my friends my Junior year of High School after watching some WSOP. None of us had any idea what we were doing, I dont even know if we had raising blinds, fuck, we may not have even had blinds. I did this casually for a bit and didnt really think much of it beyond some fun every other week or so.

Towards the end of Senior year I began looking for a way to make some extra money so that I didnt need a summer job. I stumbled upon some cheesy ebooks about winning money at online poker and I decided that was what I should do. I started out as a complete fish and would play NL SNGs and LHE cash games. Did that for a little bit before finding FTR and "getting serious." I stuck with SNGs and followed strict BR management, but didnt really go anywhere with it. I switched to NLHE HUSNGS and did better, but still didnt make much at all.

After growing tired of that, I read about bonus whoring and finally made the switch to cash games. I bonus and casino whored all summer and made a good amount of money, but really only did slightly better than breakeven at 50nl. I tried to improve, but didnt do a great job of applying what I learned and just treaded water for the most part.

Towards the end of summer I switched from FR to 6max and really tried to work on my game. I made it up to 100nl and stayed there for a bit, again breaking even. The last week or so of summer I ran sick hot and moved to 200nl where I continued to run hot. However, with my first year of school starting, I didnt have much time to play. Not because of studying, but partying. Anyways, I had a good September, but in October reality hit.

UIGEA passed around this time and the games started to get tougher and I just wasnt that good, combine that with "running bad" and I dropped about $3k in October which absolutely devasted me mentally [still had a decent BR though]. I didnt play a ton in Nov/Dec, but made some money. January was when I really started to get serious.

I read a lot more and started posting more, and really felt as though my game improved a lot. I booked a decent win in January, but February was when things really took off. I ran hot again and moved up to 400nl where it continued. I booked my first 5 digit month and was on top of the world.
March came and I broke even in the beginning of the month and then, right before heading to visit my ex at Bowdoin followed by a weekend trip to boston, I dropped 3k in 1 day. I took the rest of the month off and just had a good time like you should in college.

Came back in April and ended my 50k breakeven stretch and booked a small win for the month. In May I went back to studying my game a lot and the results showed, I was a consistent winner at 400nl at UB and had another good month. At the end of May I celebrated my 19th birthday and then went to Ireland with my family for a 10 day golfing trip and when I got back I found all of my accounts hacked.

I was able to recover most of my money, but still lost somewhere in the ballpark of $5,000. What made it worse was that as soon as I returned I was set to move into my new apartment, so I had spent a lot furnishing that and also bought my Dad's car when he got a new one. Basically, this all _really_ set me back and I just ended up taking all of June off.
In July i was mentally ready to play, but when I started back at 200nl I got absolutely rocked and ran like hell. I dropped down to 100nl where, between July and August I put in 50k hands at >5ptbb/100 and then in mid august moved back to 200nl and did well there. Took a few shots at 400nl in September, but dropped a few k over a pretty small sample [had ~30% w$SD]. Since then I have just been grinding 200nl and done alright there [winrate of ~3ptbb/100 over 100k+ hands].

Anyways, I feel like my game is very solid and can win at 400nl, but not for a huge amount. My biggest leak is lack of mathematical understanding of the game and I also really need to work on getting hands in. Im tired of just grinding out decent months and simply staying at 200nl, so that brings me to this operation.

    Goals:
    -50,000 Hands this month
--Will be slightly tough to reach because I was in Denver on a conference until late last night, but Im going to stick to it
-Make 400nl my main game again
-Drastically improve my mathematical understanding of the game
-Make 5-10 posts a day in SHNL

    Structure of Operation:
    -Daily updates:
    --Top 3 winners
    --Top 3 losers
    --Any questionable hands
--Totals [hands/profit for the day and for the operation]
    -Weekly Stats update

Basically, I want this to force me to be accountable for my spew and to get me back involved with the community. If I dont post any hands one day, bitch at me about it, if I didnt post in many threads, send me some of yours that I can check out, etc. Im planning on putting in a decent session tonight, so hopefully I will have an update later. The operation is intended to last this month, assuming I stick to my goals. If it lasts longer, I dont want it to be because I didnt put in enough hands.

    Wish me luck.

Unsure about this. Villain is a decently aggro regular and I feel like his most likely hand is something like a mid-ish PP. He would probably c/r AI with a FD or an overpair, a set is possible, but again, I feel like he would most likely CR this. The turn doesnt really change much, I just no longer beat TT. I feel like if I shove here my line will have more credit than checking behind and shoving a "safe" river. I sucked out, but dont think my play was too bad.

Hand 1: Real bad, threebet pre is fine, but flop is prob a check, and if i bet the flop i dont follow on the turn. I mean 1, that turn card is horrible, and 2 i'd rather not try to get someone to fold an overpair/AJ.

Hand 2: I prob raise flop but not is okay.

    Hand 3: Well lol misclick.

    Loser hands.

Hand 1: I'd rather shove pre than call, and i'd rather fold anyways. As played c/f all streets.

Hand 2: You can suck him out why bet the flop? I don't like your threebet pre, t7 plays horribly against his utg call range.

Hand 3: bleh dont like threebet size, 26 is fine. I prob c/f the flop.

Things you need to do better: PEOPLE DON'T CALL THREEBETS AFTER RAISING UTG LIGHT AT ALL. STOP TRYING TO GET THEM TO FOLD WHEN THEY HAVE TT+ EVERYTIME.

YOU DON'T NEED TO CBET AS MUCH IN THREEBET POTS.

DON'T PUNISH SOMEONE IF THEY AREN'T LOOSE OR AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH, EVEN IF YOU FEEL LIKE THEY'RE MAKING A PLAY.

EASE UP ON THE PREFLOP THREEBET SIZES.

    lol

isf i dunno if hand 1 is clearly a check behind on turn after we pick up a zillion outs

i kinda like bet-call. it just so happened that he had a set but what does he do with QQ, 99, KK... Also if we bet less than pot rather than shoving he only has to fold a small % of the time for us to be making a profit on the play

andy i m starting back up 2morrow so come visit my operation

sounds like your goals/mindset is good so glgl
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

Hand 1 is clearly a check behind, why do we think any villain in his right mind is folding QQ or KK? if he checks the river maybe we can say he has solely 99 or less and bluff then if we dont hit.

Our opponent is pretty aggro with a 4.94 AF on the flop after 22,074 hands and with my image, I really just feel like he is c/bombing that flop with any overpair [I could see QQ playing this way some percent of the time, though]. How often do you think this is an overpair versus an underpair? I just feel like his range is heavily biased towards weaker pairs with a very small number of overpairs and better

With dedication to both learning and getting hands in, you can move up a lot quicker than I have.

On average, I am probably only getting in like 10-15 hours a week. However, with this operation Im really going to shoot for 25+ hours a week. It all really comes down to how well you manage your time, or at least how much motivation you have for poker weighed against other things you want to do.

I think hand 1 after the flop he has either QQ, JJ, or TT probably 80% of the time. People are pussies hes too scared to go all in with QQ even though he's not folding it. I think you're overestimating how loose people call UTG threebets.

ren is a pretty solid tag, will get a little tricky but for the most part i would never 3 bet his utg raises light.

I think you'd be amazed at how fast some people have moved up to ultra high stakes, not just midstakes.

Oh and Iowa represent! What school do you go to? I bet you can guess where I'm from...

Just got back from Denver late Sunday and then had to do literally 30+ assignments for one of my philosophy classes [just stopped turning in homework 2 weeks in, not the best idea]. Anyways, also had a big test today, which I did know about and was planning on studying for it Monday night but I got drunk instead. So basically Ive been up for 36+ hours reading and doing homework, I did manage to put in a short session.

    Hands: 981
    Profit: +$114.15

    Total hands this month: 1552
    Total profit: $279.25

LOL, now that all my random shit is out of the way Im going to get into grind mode. Im going to shoot for some marathon sessions later this week, so if anybody would want to join that would be cool to sort of help keep each other motivated.

Anyways, let me know waht you think.

Fucking PAHUD cleared my DB cache so now itll take me like 2 days to re-cache the few million hand DB. So whenever I try to play, it constantly freezes up and so Ive been misclicking a lot. What do people think about making a standard sized raise here?

Danny, this is a spot you will def comment on [the raise size pre]. I personally dont make very large 3bets in position, but OOP I do to help cut down implied odds, etc. I know you mentioned this before, but could you expand a little on why you are against a 4x 3bet OOP?

i d prefer the turn minraise in the KJ combo draw hand with air then shove a blank river
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?
