Default Operation Be a Donator - Completed

    Operation Complete!

First, let me introduce myself since I’m new to FTR. I’m from Toledo, OH and play regularly at the Detroit casinos and a rotation of home games around town. Online, I play almost exclusively NL100 full ring on Stars. Once in a while I’ll donk off a few buyins at micro PLO or the 8-Game just to break up the monotony. Online volume is low, maybe a few thousand hands per month. I’ve built my bankroll mainly from live play, because well, live players are really, really bad. However, it’s fucking cold here in Ohio (and Detroit is even worse) so I’m going to try something different and hopefully have some fun. On to the operation...

I found out I had around $50 left from my last withdrawal on Cake, from the guaranteed donkaments I used to play. I’m going to turn that $50 into $1000 using an aggressive 10-buyin rule from NL4 to NL50. I won’t be using a HUD, because Cake doesn’t allow them and I’d like to force myself to pay more attention to the action, take better notes, etc. PT3 does import the HHs from Cake so I will be able to track my own play, and post them here in this thread.

For those who’ve never played on Cake, the software still seems a tad buggy, but it looks like the traffic is a little better from when I played there over a year ago. I thought it would increase a lot more with the addition of Doyle’s Room and all the other networks, but whatever. The real kicker is that this site is still packed full with weak-tight nits and fishy calling stations at pretty much every level.

At any rate, back to the operation. I’ve technically already started this $1K bankroll challenge earlier this week but just now decided to start a blog here to track this little fishing excursion.

So when it's all said and done, I’m going to take the entire $1K and donate it to the local humane society. I’d usually go buy a new flat screen or take it up to Greektown and lay it all on red, so hopefully the charity thing brings good karma. So wish me luck and hope I don’t go broke.

The bank shows $88, almost to NL10. Gonna mix in another session later tonight. Just gotta play uber tight, make a hand and value bet my ass off. Not sure how bad NL2 and NL5 are on Stars but these are some of the worst players I've ever seen here on Cake.

welcome to FTR and GL with your operation, especially since you're going to be a donator

Thanks Courtie. Was hoping the thread title would earn a five star rating right out the gate.

Love the donation thing too - very noble.

Good luck with this. I'm a couple hours north of Detroit and only 19, so I cant I play there yet. Can't wait for that day lol. I just stick to the Indian Casino near my hometown, the Soaring Eagle, dunno if you've ever been there.

The donation thing is awesome. I'm too much of a life nit right now to be giving away money lol.

Thanks guys. Just dropping in for a quick update. Down to $84. LOL at getting pnwed at NL4. I was actually down about $76 but the tables I was at were so nitty, I 100 VPIP'd it for a while and surprise, surprise... no one adjusted. Done with that for tonight. I'm on Stars playing 2 tables of NL50 6max until the wife hollers... we got Avatar on bootleg and I've been wanting to check it out.

Not really into fantasy type stuff so Avatar was kind of meh, but it was a DVD copy leaked from some meet and greet... so the HD effects were pretty slick at least.

So I've already broke my 10 buyin rule and moved up to NL10 but whatever. I want to hit my goal but I don't want it to to take forever and I've got to balance my play between this op and my regular stakes. FTW!

Not much happened, this is the only big hand I had and it really wasn't that interesting, but whatever... at least I try to make it interesting:

Villain has been reasonably tight PF but has been overly aggro post. I've 3bet him twice before and both times he folded pre. His PF raising range consists of PPs and broadways but he's only continuing with AQ+, higher pairs. MAYBE AJs but I doubt it. He open limped suited Aces once from MP. I've been at the table for ~100 hands.

2 folds, Tim Tones raises to $0.40, 4 folds, Hero raises to $1.60, Tim Tones calls $1.20

    Flop: ($3.25, 2 players)
    Hero bets $2.70, Tim Tones goes all-in $12.95, Hero goes all-in $5.70

I simply don't believe him, his flop shove seems bluffy in so many ways or he's got an overpair and thinks it's good. If villain has a made hand, we're paying him off because I just don't see 55, 66 and 88 in his continuing range enough and he doesn't even play 97 or 74 suited or unsuited. He doesn't have AA. The only hands I'm worried about here are AKd or AQd (and possibly 88). He may also be on a draw with the Ad trying to push me off my hand since I have been kind of laggy. By stoving this, you can see that this is an easy call

I'm such a bankroll junkie when it comes to this sort of stuff... but I'm basically free rolling any way, so whatever.

I'm posting this hand because PF is kinda meh, since this was my first hand at the table, and I had no idea what range villain has PF. Does he have a hand or is he stealing? Hmm, I don't know so OMG I 3bet! But anyway, flopping the nuts is the tits, and it's SO OBVIOUS what villain has by the river. Flop bet is kinda LOL though.

This hand put me over the $200 mark for this project so I'm a-movin up to NL20 (for real this time). Only $790 to go... wheeeeeeee. Can't believe the stupidity on this site, haha.

Villain is a loose fishy station who hasn't shown much aggression at all. His range is so wide here, even by the river. He'll probably call a river 1/3 psb with worse hands.

Villain is a half-stack fish. Been limp/calling a ton pre. He could very well have a set, two pair or Qx. Doubt he'd do this with a draw as he hasn't been very aggro.

More of a personal update here but goes along with the op... thinking of adopting a fat little buddy.

She's 8 years old. I just lost my 11-year old beagle last week. He was fat, but not this fat. I'm such a sucker.

    Dog is awesome.

    +1 to nice avatar.

AQ hand, if he's really passive, I just muck it dude. 8T, QT, J9, 88, TT, Q8 (meh), QJ, KQ, etc.

    Thanks and thanks.

As for the hand, he wasn't really passive, he was more an idiot. I was kind of tilting and hero shoved. He showed KQo. I can see this retard showing down QJ too but there's so many other hands in his range that beat me. Results aside, I knew I made a bad play and got lucky with my read.

I think the fact that I'm freeballin this thing and knowing I'm going to unload it to the puppy palace next month is having me play kind of recklessly and not taking every hand seriously. I've been playing my B game and I'm running super goooood since the start of this op. Probably should settle down a bit.

    Ez game lol.

Haven't updated in almost a week but got the fundage up to $440 already. Been playing a lot of HU SNGs, 6max cash and some PLO while running like a god. It's fun to play stuff I don't normally play, and of course running g00d definitely helps. Hopefully it continues and I can make this op a success within a few weeks.

Also, I did end up getting the dog (pictured above). That picture in no way shows how fat she really is. I swear this dog is a prize-winning watermelon with legs. She's a good girl though and I has her on the diet f00d.

Figured I'd update with some more good news. Won a donkament on Cake over the weekend. I'm almost there. What an uneventful blog. Who the hell rated this 5 stars? lol

I'll have to start another op soon I suppose.

PS - Thank you Saints! +$460 to the degenerate sports roll!

Ok, thanks for whoever de-rated this thread. Is this all for a good cause? Yeah, of course. 5-spades of goodies? Pff... lol

Anyway, this op is finished. I withdrew $1K and it's all going to the dogs. Take that Michael Vick. Time to start concentrating fully on getting better and moving up to 200NL on Stars. I did a ton of fucking around, bounced all over stakes from 4NL to 100NL, 6max to full-ring to heads-up cash, heads-up SNGs, donkaments, omaha, etc.

It was fun, and I think the fact that I was freerolling for an amount that wasn't going to end up in my pocket helped create my own luck with running so hot. Running good, running bad, variance, tilt - it's all psychological. When you can get past all the bullshit and just play solid +EV poker, nothing can stop you. You will laugh in the face of this myth called variance/swongs. It only exists in our minds bitches!

    congrats man
