    Default Operation: accountable for stupidity

My last blog died off, so I decided to start a new one today.

The catalyst is a few too many dumb calls/plays lately. More notably, bad mistakes that are resulting in me breaking even or winning a bit instead of winning a lot. This is nothing new, but I need to end the madness.

Tried making a prop bet with Alexos to stop the stupidity, by paying him $10 everytime I showed him a dumb bad hand. But $10 doesn't seem to be doing it.

So I'm gonna try posting hands here, and most of the hands I consider to be stupid. Feel free to flame them, maybe that'll make me stop it!

These are a few of my hands today that I think may or may not be bad. Some of these I won and some of these I lost so it's potentially close either way.

    Hand 1.
-villain is running around 30/23 and calling every 3bet. This his c/c range on flop is wide, and he bet river very fast. Think his range for making this bet is pretty narrow, and close to only 9x. Especially since I could check back overpairs on turn.

    UTG ($550.60)
    UTG+1 ($494.10)
    Hero (CO) ($400)
    BTN ($462.80)
    SB ($424)
    BB ($438)

    Pre-Flop: ($6, 6 players) Hero is CO
    1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $12, Hero raises to $36, 3 folds, UTG+1 calls $24

    Flop: ($78, 2 players)
    UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $55, UTG+1 calls $55

    Turn: ($188, 2 players)
    UTG+1 checks, Hero checks

    River: ($188, 2 players)
    UTG+1 bets $133, Hero calls $133

    Hand 2.
-villain probably views me as tight to 3bets and folds to most. He's the type that 3bets and then calls a lot of 4bets OOP. I feel like he gets to the river with a lot of stuff like KQ/AQ.. and my hand looks like AK and exactly AK. The problem is.. if he's good he can probably value ship a lot here... but he's not very good.

    Flop: ($238, 2 players)
    SB checks, Hero checks

    Turn: ($238, 2 players)
    SB checks, Hero checks

    River: ($238, 2 players)
SB bets $540, Hero calls $290

    Hand 3
-villain in this hand has been opening utg a lot, seems like 33% utg opens over around a few hundred hands. I have 3bet him once, I squeezed his last utg open and now I'm squeezing again. He can potentially be fed up and peeling light.

    First!

    1) meh i dunno it seems ok

    2) i would never call river as played but I'd always bet small on flop

    3) I might just bet flop then give up, I wouldn't call turn though.

Hand 2 - how much do you bet, and are you b/f? Isn't it too draw to b/f?

    2) c/f flop, fold river ldo

    3) b/f or even c/f flop

Sooo things are going to be changing soon. I recently got a job, so I'll be starting work full time on March 15th! That's gonna be a big change for sure, so we'll see how that goes.

It comes at a good time for me. Poker has not been going well lately. I have days where I play well, but I can't escape variance for crap. I'm around 40 buyins under EV since the beginning of January, and my winrate isn't good enough on its own, to break through that.

I also have this problem where If I feel I a line that might induce barrels/bluffing, I seem to be incapable of folding. Here's a couple spots:

    hand 1
-villain is a good villain on stars, pretty aggro but doesn't squeeze very much at all. Prob has squeeze stat of around 6%
-stacks are deepish, so I flatted his squeeze pre. Flop is probably questionable, but I figured he'd bet his entire squeezing range on this flop.

    UTG ($609)
    CO ($634)
    Hero (BTN) ($986)
    SB ($580.05)
    BB ($1,856)

    Pre-Flop: ($9, 5 players) Hero is BTN
UTG raises to $21, 1 fold, Hero calls $21, SB calls $18, BB raises to $102, UTG folds, Hero calls $81, SB folds

    Flop: ($246, 2 players)
BB bets $126, Hero calls $126

    Turn: ($498, 2 players)
BB bets $222, Hero calls $222

    River: ($942, 2 players)
BB bets $1,406, Heroto call $530ish??

    Hand 2
-villain is capable of bluffing, and I think has caught me bluff raising flops before etc.
-I feel like raising a hand like AQ on this board is good, cause its an AK2 board, and the raise here reps waay beyond nothing.

    Turn: ($381, 2 players)
UTG bets $144, Hero calls $144

    River: ($669, 2 players)
UTG bets $369.45, Hero to call $370ish

I'm just hoping my luck can turn for the next couple of weeks before this job starts. We'll see!

    ok from your original op:

    hand 1 : I like

    hand 2: fold

hand 3: b/fold flop or c/fold like alexos said

    Most recent post :

Hand 1: Call but it's kinda gross but your hand is so underrepped blah blah blah and if he bets the turn he should be shoving the river with his air.

hand 2: Fold turn? I don't think your hand looks weak after calling his flop 3-bet so I think he has it though he has to have only 2 hands rly, KK, 22 since i think he would just flat your flop raise with AK and AA.

Congrats on the job, Is! That EV crap has been magnetic towards you for months it seems like . Just sending some !

Well I officially don't think I've ever been this close to quitting before. The combination of a new job starting monday, never ending downswing/break even stretch, and running a million buyins under EV over the last 2-3 months has gotten me here.

I guess we'll see how busy this job keeps me. Ideally I'd like to play on evenings a bit and on weekends, but there isn't much point if i'm losing instead of winning. I'm not the "play for fun" type I don't think.

So we'll see! I might ponder coaching more in my free time, and playing less.. haven't decided yet.

just go run 200nl until you've got that 'i'm gonna win when i sit' mindset back. poker is too profitable and fun for you to let all that acquired skill go unused

Thanks for the advice man. Yah it's probably a good idea. I think I might try 1-2 tabling 1/2 HU or something for a bit in my free time. I've played a bit of that the last few days, after being inspired by Isildur haha. Been going ok and I focus more HU it seems, or maybe its just the 1-2 tabling.

I worry about playing 1/2 6max, cause I think i'll spew a lot at lower stakes. Even at 2/4 I seem to spew, but my results seem better at 3/6. But yah I'll ponder that too.
