Default Official FTR Be A Balla blog for every player thread.

Here's the official blog thread as suggested by me in the registration thread. Here feel free to post anything regarding comments/ your own thoughts/ progress on the challenge.

I'd just like to say I'm really excited about this. I'd really like to somehow get to 400nl before the challenge starts so i can have a good shot at winning. This i think, is an awesome thing for FTR, a challenge to take all of our games to the next level.

Regarding the probability of one of us actually getting 30k

Between around 10 players its not unlikely one of us gets hot. Anyways, even if i stay at 200nl the whole time (doubtful).
4ptBB/100 6-8 tabling is around 500 hands per hour. That's $80 an hour.
    30000/80=375 hours.

375/6 hours per day = ~62 days, that's two months of 6 hours per day (with no life easy as pie).

Obviously, I think it's going to take playing higher to win this, as I fully expect to be at at least 400NL by the end.

I personally don't like the "balla" ideals/community but anything used as a motivator for people to excel is a good thing. Good luck guys.

I've done $30k in about 25 days at 400NL before running hot. Just to give some perspective.

Everyone participating should post they're current br, current stakes and how long they expect to finish the challenge. Also, everyone should post who they expect to win (excluding themselves, obviously). I gotta admit, I'm not even participating but am pretty stoked to see this go down. Good luck to all involved, and make that money.

    Sounds good.

    Current Stakes: 200nl
Current BR: lol it's complicated, technically 10k about.

How long will it take?: I'd say it's going to take me two months, but if i run hot it will take me possibly a month. Of course, if i dont run well at all it's going to take me at least 4.

I really get the feeling that local degen sauce123 will run away with it.

i've been donking it up lately, so im pumped for this to get focused on playing an "A game" again.

    JJDAMAN-
    stakes: 200nl mostly, some 400nl
    br: ~12k

    some details -
my br is pretty complicated too. i have ~12k online, but it swings a lot when i make withdrawals (am a "pro," temporarily)
my stake has been 200nl on UB...but for too long - 60k+ hands now (5.2ptbb/100).

i have about 2k hands at 400nl. this level seems a bit more intimidating than others have. only played so far when a game looked good and i felt right for it.
but im sure everyone in this can beat mid stakes, so this will be great motivation to play good, and stay in these games where more solid money is possible.

i just wonder who will run the hottest? i'm at 13ptbb so far at 400nl...seriously though, i'll be real happy to finish in 2 months.
tough to pick really. i guess sauce but think anything is possible.
  13. #13
Ya okay, so I dropped $4.1k today

I will soooo run well during the challenge

Whoever runs well and doesn't fuck it up will win it.

Good luck y'all - if this works out FTRers will be taking like half a million bux off mid-stakes noobs in the next couple of months. That'd be cool.

    Current stakes : nl200

Current online BR : about 15k

Stakes as of midnight, May 9th : nl400

    My prediction : Benny999 FTW

How long I think it'll take : under 2 months would be nice

    My background/random thoughts :

Rode a rush from nl50 up to nl400 in the space of about 20k hands at the end of summer '06. Felt burned out by start of October and sick of ridiculous swings my style lent itself to at nl400. Took a month off and studied/discussed/railed/posted a lot. Withdrew a bunch of my roll at the end of October and started playing again as part of this Operation, where I experimented with an unnecessary but fun "extreme-lagg" style (I think my final stats for the Operation were about 41/24) :

    http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...oker-46595.htm

Having gome from a hyper-tagg (27/21 for my entire database up until my burnout) to extreme-lagg style gave me a pretty good feel for the different reactions different styles of play bring about at the low stakes.

Towards the end of the year I started coaching a few ppl and really really enjoyed that. I'm obviously by no means a guru but I think I've experimented with my game more than most ppl and have had success with different styles. I feel much much more prepared for a serious move up the limits after the hundreds of hours I've spent talking about the game, railing people and playing myself over the past few months.

I'll be leaving for Peru on July 6th and I'll have at least 2 periods where I won't be able to play for 3-4 days during the challenge. That leaves me about 50 days to make 30k. If I'm disciplined and play as much as I hope to, then I think completing the challenge before I take off will be doable.

If I had to bet on myself, I'd say I'm give myself about 3.5-1 to take it down.

    btw

don't you guys think this thread will just get unspeakable long?

Maybe that's not a bad thing... I'm wondering if we'd be better off setting up a cpl separate threads for results, HH's and general discussion?

Also, don't forget to paste you starting BR's on sites you'll be playing in the registration thread before midnight 2 morrow night.

No I think to have this unspeakably long isnt bad, just more consolidated and I think it's more exciting to look here and get tons of updates.

Post Poker Tracker figures as of today, and then compare them to the figures when the challenge ends?

Max you can also post screenshots of transactions from websites so it shouldn't be a problem.

    I'm in.

    Current stakes : NL400-1000

    Current online BR : 35k

Stakes as of midnight, May 9th : nl400

    My prediction : sauce ftw

    How long I think it'll take : if I had a 30k month I would go

    My background/random thoughts :
    long blog post
Cliff notes: Started ring career at 10NL FR april 2006. Switched to 200NL 6-max december 2006. Recently moved up to 1000NL. Dropped 15k the last two weeks, can't detatch myself mentally from the money at stake so I have decided to move down to 400NL and grind out at least 50k hands before moving back up.

I am a preflop nit and am currently trying to open up my game a bit. I'm ok but not very good postflop, this needs improvement and the balla challenge is a good time to do it.
  29. #29
Hold on so does this start tonight @ 12 or tomorrow @ 12?
  30. #30
The entire day of May 9th is included in the challenge.

So, depending on where ppl live, this is either already started or will be starting in a couple hours.

Also, since Halvsame is in, we'll have 2 prizes (assuming noone bails last minute) : 1.2k for 1st and 550$ for 2nd.

Now I can just start grinding, right? IT'S ON BABY!!!!!!!

    here's my screen shot:

I like pretending to be living on the edge like you might see with the small br on FT and stars (2 buyins for nl400 weeee).
most I just keep in the bank or paying back loans though since i can reload quick and i feel it's safer there with all the US stuff going on.
anyways...it looks like it adds to $10,352, and I just took a chunk out so don't plan to withdraw until after this, but if I need to replenish FT/stars I'll take a shot of that too.

genitruc, lol @ me ftw, although I am off to a sick start this month (20ptbb mostly at nl400 after 5k hands, cha ching).
i'd have picked you btw if i didn't suspect you would only put in 10k hands a month :P
jk...GL all, this will kick ass.

So it has begun. Day one:

I was going to play one more session today, but ended up playing a couple of live turbo donkaments with my buddies instead. Too tired to play now, gonna get to bed early and get back at it tomorrow. I can't seem to loosen up my preflop style, while my postflop stats for this session seems a bit maniacal. I'm gonna try and get to 20/18 preflop as a first step, and perhaps try to fold a bit more postflop.

Here's a fun little value shove on the river with 2nd pair. Wanted a loose call from 77-TT, I guess I overestimated his calling range slightly.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (4 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Button ($374.02)
    SB ($1452.40)
    Hero ($815.80)
    UTG ($398)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, A.
1 fold, Button raises to $16, 1 fold, Hero raises to $48, Button calls $34.

    Flop: ($102) J, 5, 3 (2 players)
Hero bets $74, Button calls $74.

    Turn: ($250) Q (2 players)
    Hero checks, Button checks.

    River: ($250) 5 (2 players)
    Hero bets $691.80 (All-In), Button calls $250.02 (All-In).

    Final Pot: $1189.82

    Results in white below:
Hero has Js Ah (two pair, jacks and fives).
Button has 4s 3s (two pair, fives and threes).
    Outcome: Hero wins $1189.82.

Whee!! I'm back from Cuba and freshh to go. I'll probably post a screenshot by the end of my 1st session tonight too.

By the way, it would be good if you guys post a screenshot of PT wins at least every few days, so we know who is ahead/behind, and not wake up one day and see Sauce already is at 30k

Pretty nasty day, was down 2k at one point, then made a nice comeback, and finished breakeven.

    A few interesting hands:

    1) Villain is carrotsnake, he looooves to make moves, at least from what I saw today. I get owned.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (3 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Button ($242)
    SB ($203)
    Hero ($743.70)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A, K.
Button raises to $8, 1 fold, Hero raises to $28, Button calls $20.

    Flop: ($57) 7, 4, A (2 players)
Hero bets $40, Button raises to $214, Hero calls $174.

    Turn: ($485) 6 (2 players)

    River: ($485) 6 (2 players)

    Final Pot: $485

    Results in white below:
Hero has As Kc (two pair, aces and sixes).
Button has 3c 6c (three of a kind, sixes).
    Outcome: Button wins $485.

    2) Villain is a Laggfish, not a thinking player. He pretty much bets any turn and river if checked to, with stuff like ten high or king high..figured it was a nice card.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $6 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Hero ($2380.75)
    MP ($292.05)
    CO ($705)
    Button ($1013.70)
    SB ($1768.40)
    BB ($600)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with J, T.
Hero raises to $18, 2 folds, Button calls $18, 1 fold, BB calls $12.

    Flop: ($57) 8, 9, 6 (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, Button bets $18, BB folds, Hero calls $18.

    Turn: ($93) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $30, Hero calls $30.

    River: ($153) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $54, Hero raises to $175, Button folds.

    Final Pot: $382

    Results in white below:
Hero has Js Ts (one pair, sixes).
    Outcome: Hero wins $382.

Damn that is a nice flop in the last hand! B/3b/5b AI ftw?

When flop went as it did, isn't c/f turn to that bet standard? Do we get paid on river ever?

Flop and turn overbets probably means that he wants to get alot of chips in before scare cards hit. You should have tried to accommodate him on the flop, even with these stack sizes.

Sucks when he just calls our raise and the turn bricks, though. This is actually a very interesting hand for that reason. How sick would a flop crai be? We're basically coinflipping against a reasonable calling range (sets/straights?), but we allow him to make a terrible call with two pair, AKc, AA etc once in a while. With him not being a thinking player, I think this is actually a viable option.

Wow that's horrible sauce. If it helps to cheer you up: I'm officially running good again, bwahaha.

Got berated in the chat for this one:
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    MP ($773.27)
    Button ($621.98)
    Hero ($607.40)
    BB ($519)
    UTG ($400)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q, K.
1 fold, MP raises to $15, 1 fold, Hero raises to $49, 1 fold, MP calls $34.

    Flop: ($102) J, 6, 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $70, MP calls $70.

    Turn: ($242) 8 (2 players)
    Hero bets $160, MP raises $654.27 (All-In), Hero calls $328.40 (All-In).

    River: ($1216.80) T (2 players, 2 all-in)

    Final Pot: $1216.80

    Results in white below:
Hero has Kd Qd (a flush, king high).
MP has 5c 4c (high card jack).
    Outcome: Hero wins $1216.80.

Should've probably either bet turn harder or c/f'ed, as played the call is slightly loose, right?

Anyways, after this the guy was out to get me. Here are the other big pots we played (note how I always win - rigg3d!):

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Button ($464.90)
    SB ($606.80)
    BB ($848)
    Hero ($400)
    MP ($615)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 7, 7.
Hero raises to $14, 2 folds, SB calls $12, 1 fold.

    Flop: ($32) 5, 6, 8 (2 players)
SB bets $28, Hero calls $28.

    Turn: ($88) 9 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $64, SB calls $64.

    River: ($216) Q (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $150, SB calls $150.

    Final Pot: $516

    Results in white below:
Hero has 7s 7h (a straight, five to nine).
SB has 6h 5h (two pairs, sixes and fives).
    Outcome: Hero wins $516.

I was originally planning to rep the flush if it came on the turn, but when he checked the river I decided to valuebet the straight instead. Needless to say, the berating in the chat box continued up until the following hand:
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    CO ($187.20)
    Button ($723.68)
    Hero ($1)
    BB ($433.25)
    UTG ($351.80)
    MP ($244)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 3, 3.
1 fold, MP raises to $14, CO calls $14, 1 fold, Hero calls $12, 1 fold.

    Flop: ($46) 6, 3, 3 (3 players)
Hero bets $33, MP folds, CO calls $33.

    Turn: ($112) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $78, Hero raises to $156, CO calls $62.20 (All-In).

    River: ($408.20) J (2 players, 2 all-in)

    Final Pot: $408.20

    Results in white below:
Hero has 3h 3s (four of a kind, threes).
CO has 4s 4h (two pair, fours and threes).
    Outcome: Hero wins $408.20.

Then he was quiet. Sadly I had to leave the tables, I think he might have tilted off more if I had stayed.

    phew!
today i was down 1k at one point and worked my way up to up 100. What a fucking cooler sesh. Three set over sets, luckily not all of them were full stacks and two of them were where i tripped up on the turn. Ugh that was horrible, I could've been up so much. I'd just like to share one awesome hand. The flop call of the reraise was a float because he was bluffing a lot here. When he checked behind the turn i thought there was an 100% he was bluffing.

Running like shit so far in the big pots (besides the post I made above lol) but feel like I'm playing really well.

Since I still feel ancy about the money flying around at nl400 I'm playing much tighter than usual and concentrating on table selection.

The biggest beat though is by far my cpu situation. My fkin laptop has been shutting down/overheating so I've ordered a new Dell which should take at least a week to get here...

In the meantime I'm trying to use my buddy's cpu but that's complicated for Ptracker/AceHUD. Overall I've probably spent 6 hours on shitty ass cpu garbage that should've been spent playing so I've only been able to get about 1.5k hands in for a small loss (something like 350$).

damn ISF 3 set over set sounds brutal. nice job not to finish down more. and great read on that hand.

my story is i'm planning to play a lot more soon but so far up $540 - just 1.5k hands.

i have a couple sorta interesting hands:
here's one i thought was a bad call, and ended my last session down instead of up.
basically i thought my range would look tight so he wouldnt bluff or overplay QQ much, and he (seemed good slag, we have no history really) insta called pre flop fwiw.

plus pot odds aren't good vs this:

i know TPTK is like the nuts in 3bet pots, but still here it looked like it was only beating a bluff.
villain was lag, and played the flop/turn fast, then ran time down on the river.
still good bet by him imo, but a 99 sort of hand seemed possible, plus some draws missed. anyways..

First 3k hands in the books at nl400

    +190$!!!!!

I played kind of nitty for the 1st 2k hands.

Tonight the tables were wild on Party and I had to fight with some of the supposedly better 2p2 regs to get at the fish. I opened my game up some and the swings were huge ; at one point I was up 1.5k and I ended up down about 150$ for the session due to a bunch of horseshit and one very sicko/spewy bluff... that I happen to like based on my read.

    The call-downs :

Villain was a laggtard who systematically potted the river with air :

Finally, the bluff that lost me the biggest pot of the night :

Villain had been running insane (44/35) and liked to “put you on a draw” and fire away. He seemed capable of folding, however, and controlled pots in position (so not a bad player… just a bit crazy!).

My turn shove is obv taking a “showdownable” hand and turning it into a bluff, but there were a ton of cards I’d hate to see on the river and the pot was already big. Also, since I figured villain’s range was pretty polarized (overpairs and sets or else overs/air… he’d almost always check behind with medium-strength hands), the shove had the merit of possibly folding out some better hands this deep (QQ, KK maybe AA a small % of the time and definitely Jx).

Also, my image at the table was awesome. Oh well. Wish he’d just snap-called instead of running the timer down to 1 second… :

I wrote party and this is the horseshit they wrote back (about the guy abusing disconnect protection) :

Disconnect Protection is a tool implemented to protect players in the event that their internet connection is lost while involved in a pot. That is if the player is disconnected from our server during the course of hand, we protect his bet treating him ‘All In’ for that hand and can win whatever is in the pot at the time of the disconnection (if his hand qualifies to be the winning hand).

If the player had a winning hand, he will be eligible to win the pot (the main pot). The game continues (even after the player is disconnected) and other players would invest their Bet amounts in ‘Side Pots’. Other players are eligible to win Side pot and the main pot. However, the disconnected player is eligible to win only the main pot as he has invested only in this pot!

Please, note that a player is eligible for 2 Disconnect Protects per Day and a maximum of 8 DP’s per week. This is a very important feature. Imagine what would happen if you get disconnected and lose all your money just because of this. Very few players try to take advantage of this feature by not acting and “pulling the plug” and intentionally disconnecting.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or comments.

WTF! Every time I report someone, they either reply with either "After investigating, we have found that the player in question has been involved with suspicious disconnections before, we have now revoked his DP rights" or "the player hasn't been involved in suspicious disconnections but we have issued a warning and will monitor his DP's in the future".

I'd send another mail if I were you, these scum need to get their DP revoked.
