    Default My $30 Bankroll Thread

Today I started 2-tabling 2NL 6-max with the $30 in my account. I figured why not start a thread here for me to keep some sort of journal as I study, review hands, and play my way up. Should be fun to look back one day.

I'm marking hands for review. I should probably make some custom tags, I'll look into that soon.

For now, I'm reviewing articles from FTR, and taking notes. I also have Poker in a Box and Poker Bank bookmarked. I'll consider books and training videos at some point down the line. For now I feel like I have ample reading to catch up on between the 3 websites.

2-tabling on non-fast fold tables means I won't be building a database of hands very quickly, but I'm ok with that. I'd rather concentrate on what I'm doing. I should be able to get an hour or two of poker in almost daily, so at least I'll be consistent. I'll probably divide that time about 50/50 between playing and study.

I don't think small sample size is so much of a problem at lower stakes. The loose fish will make themselves known quickly, these are your primary targets. Make plenty of notes, people are generally not adjusting (or adjusting badly) at 2nl so will play similar spots in a similar fashion.

As a general rule of thumb, don't bluff because people at 2nl aren't folding as much as we would like. Semibluffs are different because we can reasonably often stack fish who feel pot committed on later streets, but stone cold bluffs are very unlikely to show a long term profit at low stakes.

Good luck! I think you'll succeed, you are approaching it right and your language suggests you're calm and thoughtful, which puts you ahead of the vast majority of the pool at these stakes.

    Thanks for the comments Ong.

Note taking is definitely something I have to work on. I'm not good at remembering to take them, and I'm even worse at remembering to look at them.

I'm reasonably confident that looking at them would help me in some situations, but I'm sure there's also plenty of situations were I'm probably not gonna be able to process the information properly on the fly. So that's something to work on as well.

I'm also not sure if I should keep notes on the poker client or on PT4? The one advantage of using Pokertracker I suppose is that I can write the notes during hand review.

I play mostly stars and skypoker, I can take notes there. I tend to take notes in the next hand in which I fold, where I have time to replay the hand. I'm in no hurry, but I do value notes. I don't note everything, I don't want to overload the note box with too much.

Examples... "c/c three streets with 2nd pair" or "stack weak overpair on paired flop", "chase gutshot to river"... when you see notes like this, you know to value bet the shit out of them, and to not bluff. Other times you might see them l/r AA utg... well note it, so if you see them limp utg in future, you can limp behind to nutmine with great odds, knowing that most players who l/r aces will probably have a hard time letting them go. You also know to play QQ with caution, perhaps even KK if it's a solid enough tell.

If you can't make notes, well I guess it doesn't matter. That also means your villains can't. I wouldn't move sites purely for the benefit of taking notes, they're not that valuable.

    Helpful, thanks.

In. Would be great to see somebody roll up a couple of thousand bankroll from 2nl in 2016.

There's plenty of good resources out there for free and you can really do well just by downloading Equilab and playing around with it, along with a few spreadsheets.

Funny you say this, I just downloaded Equilab last night. I've been having fun with it all day. Already it's given me some perspective on a couple of situations.

I've not worked with spreadsheets before, and I don't really understand what that it about yet. I'm making my way through the stickies here for "The Beginners Circle Digest" followed by "The Complete Spoonitnow Strategy Anthology". Hopefully there's information there regarding spreadsheets. If not, I'll have to go hunting.

Are you gonna post hands here or in small stakes?
