Most definitely not card dead tonight. 50 hands into the session and I've had AA, AK, AK, AQ, AQ, JJ, TT, my T9s flopped 678 and villain stacked off...

Let's hope it doesn't stop for mid-end game

Sick river. When he bet the turn I figured he could have ducks, so river was an easy overbet shove for value

Recently finished tournament poker for advanced players. Still reading the HoH series. Next three books will be

    Kill phil
    Kill everyone
    Raisers edge

Which apparently are v good to read together. Tpfap is aight, trouble is its 14 years old so all the good advice from it is already out there in strat guides across the web. It even touched on icm before icm even had a name, It was ahead of its time for sure but wasnt like a lightbulb for me in 2016 with ~70k mtt hands under my belt.

Also, going to subscribe to icmizer2. I think that if I use it correctly it might be the most +ev thing I do all year

Read thru your posts and enjoyed it
I would like to ask what do you do when you have those bad days in the table?

Having the occasional bink helps a lot

I think anyone grinding mtts has to get used to losing. If I showed you my graph its basically these long dry spells with the occasional big score.

I don't just mean losing tournaments - on an individual hand when you lose a huge chunk of your stack, you have to try and shrug it off and keep bringing your A-game right down to the last chip.

Getting in good volume is important too. Much easier to shrug off a beat when the next MTT is already loaded up

I just need a hud and something to track my progress, and PT4 does that just fine for me - I'm sure HM2 would as well though as they're owned by the same company.

And I hope I get another win soon too I'm running at 100% roi this year though so I can't really complain

IMO on post #182, you should call, you hold the 3rd to most chips in the table , so even if you lose this hand you will still be able to take it back.

That's not the way to view poker a -EV decision is -EV.

I think it's a pretty easy fold. I can't imagine Luco is opening that much wider in this spot so no real worried about exploitation & I can't imagine we have equity vs villains range.

well, i believe the SB holds a pocket ace, king or queen.
and i would do it because i would like to increase my chip stacks before reaching the mid of the tourney.
  39. #189
so you think SB is 3bet shoving 23BB with Ax,Kx, Qx into an UTG+1 opener who has him covered multiple times?. He still has a decent stack and isn't needing to make a move yet. far more likely that he has QQ+ here.
  40. #190
no, i think the SB has AA,KK or QQ .....
  41. #191
and what equity had QQ+ got vs AQs? Pretty sure AQs is a dog to that range but meh got stars open so can't equilab it at the moment.. AQs is a 28:72 dog , so why do you want to chuck a third of your chips his way?

I feel like that AK hand is a bit awkward, reckon we could play turn differently? That might be being a bit results orientated on the river card though. I struggle to see him having that many Qx in his range but his sizing at this level makes it a pretty obvious he has you beat and wants some value.
  46. #196
Ak hand: I think you played it fine. Villain really shouldn't be value betting worse as he can't expect you to fold Ax, so I think we can check fold. Villains can't hand read either, so he probably thinks you have Qx sometimes and that would dissuade betting.

The range he's value betting is really narrow though and is really only fixed at JTcc and AQ sometimes, assuming he doesn't raise flop or turn with AQ. You'd think 99 and QQ would raise before the river.

    TT: yeah, doesn't look good!

Nice button bink. I sometimes raise this pre, but this table was too loose for that so a limp along felt right

Not happy with this river sizing. I have a lot of success with small river bets to induce spazz from busted draws, but the pot was already too big for that. I should have just bet a bit bigger and got more value from his calling hands...

Just one of those days where it feels like I've lost every flip and got screwed on every river. These days happen, I've been here a hundred times so it's all good.

Fact is I haven't had a losing month in 2016 and I've had some sick runs, so I still feel lucky

    My 2c fwiw..

A9: way too loose pre. I like to play a lot of speculative hands that can flop big early on in position to build a bullying stack, but this isn't one of them. As played, I like your idea about inducing spaz, but I'd usually check back river as standard against this guy. One for me to think about as I'm probably missing some value in these spots.

KK: the way this table is shaping up, I'd just exploitably increase my sizing to 4x pre. Nice disciplined fold on the flop, which sets you apart at these stakes.

AT: I think you played it fine. When villain checks back that flop and the J turn comes, stabbing half pot with your entire range seems mandatory to me to fold out his bigger aces as we can be perceived to connect with that board well. No idea what villain is doing, but normally when they take spazzy lines, they have it.

I've just started playing around with a free app called SnapShove, which seems ok. Might be worth taking a look. Party also has some decent micro tournaments with big guarantees that are worth playing.

Here's an interesting hand with a villain who was 12/10 over 42 hands. I wasn't really happy with calling the flop, he has JJ+ very often here. But when he shoved turn I felt a bit better about calling because he was clearly happy to try to take the pot right there.

I'm trying to post less brags/beats in general, but losing an AKo vs AKo is pretty rare and this hand made me smile. You split the pot 92% of the time, and lose just 1/25 of the time

It's an app for playing around with shoving and calling range, with quizzes to test your knowledge. The free version only allows you to look at really short stacks, but it seems ok if not spectacular.

Related, you may want to think about playing some spins and HU turbos. Standard in the micro ones seems really bad, particularly the new format on Party.

I think in times like that villain is going to be really face up at this level, so we only need a couple of showdowns for really good reads, and we don't need to worry about being exploited because we have plenty in our range to call with (not that villain will be thinking along those lines). In this scenario I actually think it makes our decision easy.

I don't think it's a snap fold. We're short and looking for a spot to GII, and pot bets in general are not a show of strength. If we were HU on the flop I would have had a much harder time folding.

Well, Jd would have been nut low.

This was super early, so an easy fold. It's harder in midgame when you've been an eternity without a good hand...

I still see so many people sizing their AK 3bets too big. Prolly because they have no idea how to play if they don't pair the flop. Like, I was 80% sure this was AK when the bet came out
