Default Le Pokeroz ando Le Selfo Improvementos

Sup FTR pplz. Been a long time since my ass took poker or life seriously. I figured 2012, and therefore the world is coming to an end so what better time to start working on myself? Going to keep this first post kind of short, but just want to outline some poke and life goals going forward.

    Poker Goals/Objectives/Guidelines:
    - HUSNGs all day errday on BCP
    - 20-25 BI move up, 5 BI stoploss.
    - 5 games a day, 4 days a week to start out, ease myself back into it, etc
    - Review all 5 games, err day.
    - Work my way up to the $23/$34.50s, go from there.

    Life Goals:
    - 1st and foremost, quit smoking once and for all. This goal WILL BE accomplished by December 1st. Whether that means I quit on December 1st, or already be done smoking by that date remains to be seen.
    - 2nd most importantly, quit drinking soda so much. I work at a gas station with free fountain drinks and I've abused this privilege liberally which has resulted in me gaining 15-20lbs over the last year and a half I've worked there. I'll scale this down gradually. Focus on drinking more water, etc.
    - On that note, weight loss is next. Just 2 weeks ago I weighed more than I've ever weighed in my life, 220lbs. I'm 6'3" so I don't look like a super fat shit, but lets face it. I'm a super fat shit. Time to get back down to 185-190lbs.
    - On the note of weight loss, exercise. I've sorely slacked off on this over the last two years. I go through spits and sputters while I'll work hard for like a week or two, then just get super lazy and end up accomplishing absolutely nothing. To this effect, I will begin a new workout regimen that I will attempt to stick to through the end of the year.

Well bitches, so much for that being short. If you didn't read, well then fuck you too. Lettuce gogogogogo.

    Also, LoL all day.

Oh lord, I got fired from that back in 2010, 6 months after I got it. Some dickhead backed into me while I was bringing around a guest's car and if you get in an accident its auto-piss test. I was a massive stoner back then and obviously I failed it. Currently grinding as a gas station clerk.

Drank only one 20oz thang of pop today, success.

Played my 5 games at $11.50, went 4-1, success.

Felt like I played reasonably well. First 4 matches was against a pretty bad fish that ran very poorly vs me. Went 3-1 vs him, and managed to outflop his AA w/ my 88 while we were both pretty deep. Sadly he quit me after that game.

Last game was vs a guy that was a fucking gay. Jammed over my limps at 25/50 when we were 20-25bb deep on the regular. Was irritating, but managed to see some flops and got him to spazz in a limped pot w/ J9 vs his A8 on 99Kr, jammed over my minbet. Was very satisfying.

My 10-25bb game definitely needs a lot of work. Once we get shorter stacked (<10bb) I have a vague idea of what hands I should be shoving and calling shoves with, but this also could use some work.

Very happy I made this blog as I feel it will help me stay accountable and to keep pushing forward w/ things that I should be doing, involving both poker and life.

    This gun' be good!

    Attach mousepad/keyboard to treadmill.
Put treadmill in front of monitor.
Set treadmill on lowest possible speed.
    Grind.

    ...Later...

Resolve to stop taking advice from monkeys.

Lol. If I had a treadmill that might be worth a shot. :P

    Vamooo dranger.

Do you smoke inside your house?
  16. #16
It's my Dad's house but yeah. There is three smokers that live here, so it makes it waaay harder to quit. Pretty sure I'm moving back to my Mom's (where no one smokes) in the next few days though.
  17. #17
Fair, I definitely think that's a big part of it. Having to go outside to smoke, especially when it's cold and raining (or if you don't take many breaks from grinding and play long sessions) can help break the habit really quickly.

Put some gunpowder in one random cig in each pack. The experience of smoking will become so anxiety filled that you'll come to hate it.

Officially quit smoking Thursday night. ---edit--- SUNFLOWERS SEEDS ARE AWESOME BTW

Didn't play Thursday or Friday as I moved home to my mum's house. Today was spent working a 12 hour shift. Played 3 games. Each one got into the 75/150 level (turbos). Was boring and frustrating to say the least. Did follow a fish up to the $23 turbos and sat him, ended up stomping him. So went 1-2, basically broke even - rake.

Need to start reviewing these games.

ZOMG!! Just got an email from pokertracker reminding me I have a free upgrade to PT4 because I bought PT3 last December during the PT4 beta or something. FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP

    Updates:

    - 6 games behind pace for my 5 games per day, going to remedy this tonight.
    - Still haven't smoked, so 5 days. Had a few small cravings at work today, but they were easily held in check.
    - Haven't really been working out. Just when I wake up I've been doing a lot of stretches and whatnot. Do this for a few more days then squatting, pushups, planks are next.

As for studying my games. This hasn't happened yet. However, I have been doing a lot of reading/thinking about theory and general strategy at work. Mers' free ebook is awesome. He explains things in a way that speaks to my poker brain which is good, otherwise I'd just skim it.

Anywho, some things I've taken away from it:
    - When going against a random, play against the population tendencies and slowly adjust to the specific opponent you are against.
    - When it comes to adjusting, you don't just make grand, sweeping changes to how you're playing someone, especially a random. They should be incremental changes as you begin to understand what his frequencies are in specific spots.
    - He also talks a lot about 10-20bb play, all of which is fkn gold for me, since I feel it's a major weak point in my game. One of the 'aha!' moments reading it tonight at work as when he talks about when you're 10-15bb deep, BTN's minraising range plays a HUGE role in how you should be responding. The difference in what you should be doing if he's mr'ing 30% vs 40% is massive. Moreso than him mr'ing 50% to 60% at 20bb deep.

I know these are all super super basic stuff to those that have come before, but I'm really just trying to nail down the fundamentals and get my ABC game down pat. I feel I'm pretty good and should be a fairly decent winner (~5-10% ROI) at the stakes I'm playing as it stands, but gotta improve if I want to move into small/midstakes!!

when we talk about smoking we are talking about weed right?

    ps gl dude

No sir, talking about cigarettes. Weed I smoke very very rarely nowadays. My gas station job does random piss tests (lol) so I kind of have to be careful.

Completed playing those 6 sngs. Success!

ha! piss tests at a gas station. now that is a complete waste of somebody's money. wow.

edit: not because they won't find anything obv, but because who gives a shite.
  27. #27
Exactly. Worse case scenario of me getting stoned at work is I buy more Reese's and Doritos. This seems detrimental to their business model.

Piss tests are no longer done for drugs. They are IQ tests. If you can't pass a piss test with the technology that's on the market you're to stupid to work anywhere, even a gas station.

    bump for update?
  39. #39
Not much too update. Been very busy, so not much time for poker. Too much LoL imo. What I can update:

[x] quit smoking (4 weeks thursday)
[x] signed up for school, start january 7th
    [ ] lost weight
[/] give myself a half check for quit drinking pop, I dont drink it every day, and when I do only one 20oz max.

Also started a 2nd job today. Cutting down and chipping trees (not small ones). $10/hr under the table. Had loads of fun doing it, sore as shit. =D
  40. #40
Oh should add, since I'll be getting the same hours at gas station, this 2nd job is basically for savings and playing around/new wardrobe/etc money. Will be saving 50% of whatever I make there, spending the other 50% until/unless I run out of stuff to buy. (I'm not a super materialstic person). Also been saving roughly 15% of my gas station monies and recently found out they match up to 5% if I invest in my 401k. Will be starting this asap.

All told, should be saving 30-40% of my income, depending on how often my new boss needs help.

Obviously very excited about how much monies I'll have saved up by next summer!
