@dev: not really, you just need the essentials at home. Like OJ, Coke, Sprite, Lemons, tons of ice, and a rum of choice, whiskey of choice, and a vodka of choice. You might go crazy and add cognac, vermouth, gin or tequila, but very few people will drink this casually when at your home.

Going for mojito's and caipirinha's at home, while nice, is possibly overkill imo. Time is much better spent in kickass lighting and sound, and a good bed. Skip TVs, really.

    @robb: sure! here you go

Being in the middle east Ive finally learned to appreciate chai tea and smokin´ the shee´sha. So let have a seat, drink tea, smoke some apple-mint shee´sha and enjoy the sweetness of life.

So, I have a renewed interest in bikes.
I was discussing with a friend about bikes, and I did not know any of the terms or whatever.
Then I embarked upon the net, to see what's up.

I found a few, most notably the Yamaha Raider 2009

And then another friend of mine pulled up in a Suzuki Intruder 2009

At this point I was ecstatic about Japanese hogs (I'm learning the terminology here), but the first friend i was discussing with, an older guy, insisted that I should check into Harley Davidson. So I went to the website and I found this:

    2009 V-Rod Muscle VRSCF

which I think is like the most good looking of these kinds of bikes I ever saw. its 17K, which apparently is a lot for bikes. And apparently, because its a Harley, it does not depreciate as fast as the other two. Plus any of the above bikes get at worst 40 MPG, and imagine the chicks you would pick up. which got me thinking...

At the moment, I need my own transport. Transportation issues have fucked me up for the last few weeks, because my main car, a big black suv, is down to the shop for repairs but apparently its parts are made of unobtainium. My second car, a mt old mazda coupe, cannot be driven by my mother, but apparently she needs to be everywhere during the whole day, so I have to put my life on halt to chauffeur her around. I can do this once, maybe twice, but not for weeks straight. its driving me crazy.

Yes, I know a car is better, but it hardly if ever rains around here. Plus, its that time of my life in which I want t ride around to "BORN TO BE WILD", you know? My old english teacher, a very classy guy, used to go everywhere on his bicycle, why can't I do the same on a Harley?

You sound like a noob to bikes, so don't jump too fast. You need to ride a similar bike a couple of times to see if you want to live with such a big, heavy motorcycle. Like you say, they are also expensive. There are smaller, cheaper bikes of the same style. You might even like a "standard" type bike more than a cruiser. They are lighter and more nimble as well as being comfortable.

Here's a link, just to give you an idea. All the Jap manufacturers make standard bikes.

    http://www.motorcycle.com/specs/yamaha/standard.html

You should also consider buying a used bike. There are some great deals out there. GL

Tnx for the input mate. Yeah, I'm very n00b in regards to bikes.

I thought biking around was all about looking good while acting mean, and picking up all the chicks along the way? Big leather jacket, Timberlands, mosquitoes in my teeth, the works. I don't want speed inasmuch as I want a pimp ride.

And the link you gave me was great. I started looking at all the bikes, and definitely like the cruisers more than the standards. Maybe only the muscle cruisers appeal a bit more to me.

    And then I saw this:

The '09 Victory Vegas Base. Such a beauty. Also at around 17K or so.

When it comes to advice about poker, my attitude is very simple: seek it out, absorb it, but while you're at the table, forget it.

I'm a firm believer in learning the game by playing the game. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of great resources around to help players improve their games or that poker books and tutorials don't have their place. They do. However, the problem I see with people who rely on these kinds of aids is that they end up playing poker like someone else or - even worse - like everyone else.

One of the things that makes poker great is that it's a game where there's really no right or wrong way to play. Every player has their own approach to the game and the key, in my opinion, is to take the things you learn from other players and incorporate them into a style of play that works for you.

There are some players who take a very mathematical approach to the game, and for them, it works. They study the odds and make decisions based on whether they think they're getting the right price to commit their chips to a pot. It's a solid way to play, but the fact is, it's not the right approach for everyone. What's more, even the best of these players will tell you that math only takes you so far.

Calculating the odds can certainly help you decide whether you're making a smart move, but it doesn't take into account who you're playing against. There are many times when you can do all of the math you want and your decision still comes down to intangibles and a feeling about your opponent or the situation you're facing. Does this guy have a hand? Can I push him off the pot? Am I getting myself into trouble here? Even if the odds say you should play, your gut may be telling you something else, and that's something you can only develop by playing.

Relying too much on other peoples' advice can actually make it harder to develop this kind of reading ability because it tends to clutter up your head. You get so focused on thinking about odds, probabilities and strategies that you forget that you're playing against someone else and that you have to try and figure out what he or she is doing. Are they scared? Will they fold to pressure? Are they a maniac? In my opinion, these are the important things to keep in mind during a hand.

It's been said before, but it bears repeating. Poker isn't about the cards; it's about the players and the situations. Winning players understand that sometimes you have to take chances. Sometimes they work and other times they don't. Whether you win the hand or not, you have to make the play that you believe is best.

At the end of a hand or a session, go back and study the things you did well and be honest with yourself about where you made mistakes. Don't, however, overanalyze how you could have played a hand differently because this can negatively impact how you approach your next hand or session. Identify your mistakes, learn from them, and move on. Just because some play or move didn't work the way you wanted doesn't mean you were wrong to try it. As I said before, there are just some things that you have to learn by playing.

So here's my advice. Read this tip. Read other tips and poker books. Talk to your friends. Absorb as much information as you can. But at the end of the day you have to trust your instincts and play your own game - not someone else's.

    Yay, poker monies.

I just spent about 1K in updating my wardrobe with some fine imported shit (i got em for cheap). I gotta stop doing the spending and grinding to get to nice levels before thinking about spending again.
LOL, i'm probably my own enemy concerning moving up plans.

But I saw some kickass new nike trainers at oddballshoe.com...

    sums up my week, really.

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 10.50 Tournament, 25/50 Blinds (2 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    SB (t1225)
    Hero (BB) (t1775)

    Hero's M: 23.67

Preflop: Hero is BB with ,
SB bets t100, Hero calls t50

    Flop: (t200) , , (2 players)
    Hero checks, SB checks

    Turn: (t200) (2 players)
Hero bets t100, SB calls t100

    River: (t400) (2 players)
Hero bets t150, SB calls t150

    Total pot: t700

    Results:
SB had Q, 5 (two pair, Queens and twos).
Hero had 8, 9 (one pair, twos).
    Outcome: SB won t700

I just haven't seen turn or river blanks in a long long long time. Villains hit like barry bonds fully juiced. I cannot win allins when ahead. I cannot outdraw when behind unless i'm massive chipleader, like 9:1. I cannot hit any ten out flop draw ever. What's the chance of missing ten consecutive coinflips when it counts? I dunno, but I just did just that. Runners? I see one every single fucking game.

But posting more of these hands is not adding anything of value to my blog. So I won't.

Negativity breeds bad play which in turn breeds more negativity. Complaining that you run like shit will only make you run worse, and what's worse, no one has any sympathy whatsoever.

Whenever I run bad, I try to keep a cool head. And if that fails, as its been happening lately, I tell myself someone else has been running worse, and probably for a lot more money than I did. Its a comforting thought even though its also a bit evil, and one I hold onto tightly.

LOL, I seem to be gettingback to my old self. Things have been going good lately, I have been more focused, both in life in general and in poker.

People will mistrust you immediately and do some truly strange plays once they think you are an idiot or something. I love this shit.

Fugly board to push, but I decided its a good board to bluff. Of course, he won't fold his midpair. Which means when I have my Qx+ he also wont be folding in this spot with his midpair.

And also overconfidence leading to stupidty

Jizzy Sawya calls t200, SB checks

    Flop: (t850) , , (2 players)

SB bets t400, Jizzy Sawya raises to t2000, SB raises to t4520 (All-In), Jizzy Sawya calls t2520

Why the hell did I raise that river? I should have kept it on the turn once I hit, with him raising and me perceving him as a full ring nit I should seriously contemplate folding.
And the most crucial question being why the hell did i limp pre?

Toto, which are some good universities in Germany? Particularly with globally recognized degrees and such, and specially with Social and Human studies like Psychology. And hot chicks obviously.

Is there any good one in Stuttgart?

Ha, my back still hurts, but its improving. I expect by Friday I can go on full-on physical activities again. Today, I'm still going to jump rope and train pliometrics.
    a nice article here: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m.../ai_104682191/

I will lose some weight. I'm happy I can now attain this level of determination, which was previously impossible for me.

Cheers mate! Im sorry I didnt see this before. In general all the unis are full of hot chicks, there´s little difference amongst our universities. The Techs are quite bad pussy-wise, but thats not your prob (and very soon neither mine anymore^^)

You can find a national ranking from 04 here and you might find this uni comparison tool helpful (its also in english). From a quick glance Stuttgart doesnt look all that amazing, although their r&d has not a bad rep. Goettingen is the second best german uni acording to The Times, Stuttgart scores 5th.

I gotta run, let me know if you need more info/have specific questions.

Thanks man I'll be checking them out. I'm partial for some reason to Stuttgart, even though I've never been there. It just sounds cool.

I feel as if my whole outlook on life has changed, for the better for some reason. Its difficult to put into words what's happening or what triggered it, but I like it.

My lifestyle went from sedentary back to fully active, I am doing my utmost best to keep it that way. I'm motivated, focused, happy, the colors are beautiful; I definitely like it.

    God dammit I need that.

I've been running like shit at poker the last few days, and a good strong whisky on the rocks will always help with that.

But fuck poker. I set out to lose some weight, and dammit I did it. I like the fact that people ask me all the time if I look a little bit skinnier or their eyes deceive them.

I have written several updates for this over the days, but it has not been possible for me to post any because I always end up not saving them, hard-rebooting the pc or whatever else. So this is a short one, this time making sure I post the bitch.

Haha you know how it is.

I am writing this post because my roll is right near my postcount once again, and I made myself that promise that I would keep.

I have not been grinding seriously since like forever. The first time I decided to grind seriously, was after I made my first $1K (poor roll management and a crazy cash game and I swung it all the way up to $5K, and then back to just around $1K, so yes, I am not to be trusted in cash games), and I wanted to make a killing. I have pretty much always played SNGs, because my tilt control is absolutely horrendous if I am not constrained (rule #1: know thyself). Online, it's easy to just sit in another cash game and go on monkey tilt because you got outdrawn once again on the river, and end up bleeding your whole bankroll to the guy who did it because you were trying to get even.

So yes, the first time I decided to grind seriously, I got bad beaten because IRL someone broke into my SUV and stole my laptop. I had just made $1K online, and felt at the top of the world. Most know how hard it is to grind up to that first philosophical milestone.

I then withdrew pretty much all of it to get a new laptop. You know how expensive laptops were back in '07. I was also grinding without an internet connection at home, so I had to stay at the Uni until like 5AM playing $4 180s (before the steal that is). After my computing equipment got stolen (a custom Asus Z70V I worked hard to buy just a year before that, which was pretty much top of the line back then), a girlfriend offered me an old Sony Vaio (which didn't even have a functioning keyboard) as an interim solution. Beggars cannot be choosers, as they say.

After that event, I really did not give a fuck to grind seriously again. I had to buy a new one, and the one I bought cost around $2K, so I withdrew the $1K I had and had to work for the other $1K. It seems that around here, when people know you got some skills, they will do everything to get those skills at their disposal cheaply, and I ended up having to work almost an equivalent of $5K to pay off the laptop I got. So no poker, just me making billboards and stickers and whatever the fuck else the guy who got me the deal needed done.

I did break the magical mark once more, and went all the way up to like $1.8K playing SNGs, and then had to withdraw again for all tons of unavoidable RL shit that happened. I am happy I had a cushion, albeit small and whatnot, that I could depend on once again when called upon.

Fast forward through all the shit and sidegames and whatnot to today, about 4 years later. During all the time that went by, I was just like Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: nothing but a shadow of my former self, forced to flee from daylight and mice and whatever. But thankfully, this month (March) marks the first month ever that I have played enough to be a Silver Star just 8 days into the month. I am shooting to get to Gold this month (I have never ever even been GoldStar during any month), and then platinum in April. I have a confidence in my game I just did not have before, and my bankroll is growing steadily, alongside my amount of VPPs. I have a plan to reach supernova, but this will go into action later this year, hopefully right around September, month in which I will be armed to the teeth in new and up to date computer equipment I will be personally getting from the States when I visit there in August.

Sitting around and not grinding is not gonna get my goals done. All the big guys, Spacegravy, DutchSlugger, A 1 i s h A, Jorge Arias etc. grinded their asses off to get where they are now. They didn't just sit around looking at forum pages and magically got all their merits in. Poker is a ruthless meritocracy, someone once said, and I am prepared to undergo the same to achieve whatever merits are in store for me.

I am fully confident that if all goes well, I will finish 2010 as a Stars Supernova. That is my current goal, and with my (current) modest amount of volume, it will present to be quite a challenge, but I will climb that mountain. I showed in the past if I set me a goal, I would do it (the weight loss thing). I will do my utmost best to not fuck this up.

Playing 6 tables currently, I am looking to move to about 10 to stabilize there. Next long-ass update will come after (if ever!) I make PlatinumStar or my roll reaches $10K. Cash games will pretty much forever remain sidegames for me, or until I can get my tilt demons under control.

    The drive, and the motivation.

Just 6 hours a day. Just 6. After that, I can do as I please.

C'mon, I can definitely do this. I am currently in what we will call the preparation phase.

I got a freakin' new chair, and I already went to inquire how much for a brand spankin' new iMac 27" with core i5 in it. The preparation phase is the most important one for the coming onslaught. I will do this.

This is the next goal, monetary wise. If and when I reach 10K I will be buying one, and then things will get serious.

it sucks but I failed miserably on the GoldStar for this month. I got stuck at about 1.5K, and couldn't find the time to grind more.

That said, my internet connection seems to have finally stabilized.
Since upgrading my line to a lowly 4MB, every 3 hours or so my connection seemed to restart itself, taking a whole 5 minutes to do it. That, coupled with a few open SNGs, meant buyins flushed down the drain. Today I tried my hand at a session that started at around 6am, ended at 10AM, with only like a few secondlong hiccups, which are entirely tolerable for me.

This hopefully means that I can grind longer now with less worry of having a ton of big games open and my inet doin' its disco thing costing me a whole chunk of BIs.

    And now,
    Bring it on, April.

I am shooting for at least 1K tourneys total, if I get in 50 per day I can be done by the 20th and take the rest of the month off. After 1K it would depend on how I feel if I plan to play more. Obviously, 5 days on and 2 days off is better, so hopefully I will be done by the 26th or so at latest.
The aim is still at 8 tables min. for 4 hours min. per session/day. So 1K should be a little on the conservative side. @ $1+ average rake per tourney, should be a shoo in for Gold, and possibly even Platinum.

Adage of the day: if you get a bad beat and you actually care about it, it's indicative that you are playing too few tables. load more and stfu.

sure thing buddy, here you go

the trip is in a bit of jeopardy right now. the original plan was for us to stay at a girlfriend on mine's aunt's house. but it turns out quite a few of my friends put their names as in they were going, about 8 in total. my friend does not want to inconvenience her aunt with that many mofos in her house, so she told her cousin to find a house for rent.

once that is settled, we will be on our way. supposedly beginning of august or so. without housing we will not even think about going, since staying for a month or so in a NY hotel is not something anybody but Carlos Slim Helú or Bill Gates could even think of doing.

    I hope we meet Flomo!

Over the past month, I played close to 600 or so games at PokerStars. Over that span, I dropped close to $500, or about 30 buy-ins. I have literally been unable to win a single flip when it counts. Oh, I will win a flip when it's for like 15 chips, but when my tournament life is on the line, it's been lose lose lose. Lose when a favorite, lose when a big favorite, lose when a slight underdog, lose as a big underdog. I hold K9, I know for a fact that the fucker has Q9 or some other shit, think about folding, but then I call anyway. He has Q9o. Board gives him a straight, and then a flush on the end for good measure. I got kings, the dude has like 67o, lops two pair. Or he has ducks, flops quads. Boom, my chips are gone. Over and over and over again.

Not to mention all the bubbles because of this. Out of those 600 or so, I probably bubbled 150.

Holy shit. I have never been a net loser over such a sample before. But I have also never 8-12 tabled before. Coincidence? I think not.

2.3K VPP down, 700 to go. I just hope I don't piss away my entire bankroll before I become GoldStar this month, hopefully tomorrow. At least I still got like 175 Buy-ins to work with.

GG on GoldStar. Let's have a classic Rum and Coke with your choice of rum, please. We can drink to winning flips when we're ahead, imo.

GL man, just saw that you're working towards an Embody. Me and Alexos both splurged and got ourselves one and while they're great they are mega expensive. Herman Miller just came out with a cheaper version called the Sayl that looks pretty sweet imo. Link : SAYL Chairs - Products - Herman Miller

Maybe something to look at if you're in run bad mode atm.

    Good luck!
