ya i ve thought about a prolonged break

problem is, I've spent probaby 50-70% of my poker playing days on prolonged breaks for one reason or another.

I'm finally getting myself to play regularly, am sitting in awesome games but just running like shit.

For once, I'm really getting good at leaving my ego away from the tables, not worrying about outplaying people and just gunning for the big fish.

I think a break might be a decent idea, but man if I could just string a few decent sessions together...

fwiw I'm working on about 25 buyins right now at nl400 so it's not urgent that I move down, but if I lose say another 4-5 buyins I'll definitely be moving down for a while.

Ideally I'd like to be sitting on about 50 buyins to play optimal aggressive poker that I think would be really +ev (but super swingy) vs the regs. Right now I'm playing anything but that, avoiding slightly +ev 3-bets, squeezes and postflop bluffs, just cuz the games are so good that I shouldn't need to do that to beat them.

thx for the thought though, it's definitely something I'm considering.

been back playing the past cpl days after taking a few days off

felt terrible my 1st cpl sessions but made a little money I think

tonight played a quickie at nl400 and played some of my best poker in a long long time. my reads were crisp and I chose my spots really well

I think I lost about 1.5k though, mainly on 3 deepstacked 50/50's that all went against me

i don t care though; my vow for feb is to not check results once and try to worry more about how I'm playing than how I'm running

I know that Im new to the board, but I was intrigued by your operation and I just had to post after looking at your last 10 or so hands. I dont play 400NL, and I have a very long time to get there, but I do belive there is no way in hell that I could handle the variance you are handling. I am amazed that you can still sit down in front of the computer after being in some of the hands you have been in. I mean, I typically playe 60k hands a month, and I think you have had more coolers than I have had had in a year.

My friend, I say to you GG just for the ability to still grind it out.

Thanks a lot Jason. It may seem trivial, but I really appreciate you taking the time to make that post.

Played a ton (by my standards) between Fri-Sun. I'm trying to avoid going above 4 tables and I'm really table-selecting hard.

I feel like I'm playing great but the results still aren't there. My goal is to avoid checking results until the end of Feb and I've been good about that so far. I just can't seem to find myself to the "right" side of the marginal spots. Weird things like 43/21 fishy open-shoving for 500$ when I have JJ... turning OESFD and 2-barrel-pricingmyselfin vs a set that slowplayed the flop... AA and KK going down about 1/2 the time. But like I said, I really feel like I'm playing great and now feel completely comfortable beating up on the regs I'm facing; just the right balance of well-timed aggression without spewiness. I'd guess I'm down another 2-3 buyins but I'm gonna give myself about 3-4 more before moving down to nl200.

Wasn't able to play yesterday or today because of a massive presentation for school and I doubt it'd be a great idea to sit right now on 3 hrs sleep in 48 hrs.

I'm looking at 3 consecutive days of 1k hands playing 4 tables or fewer between tomorrow and friday. Hopefully I can keep playing well and manage to get myself in some better spots.

At least if you've identified it, you can work on it. GL for the rest of the month .

I hate the fact that when things start turning around for me I'll be at nl200.

But so far for Feb W@SD is 39% and I don't wanna be grinding lots of tables of nl200 with less than 45 buyins so now's the time to get my ass back there.

Just played about 1k hands at nl200 and I think I’m gonna stop for the day, even though my plan was to put in a ton of hands when moving down.

I just notice that I’m kind of on life-tilt and I think it’s related to poker. Nothing really interesting happened during my session except for a tilty shove after a 27/24 raised my c-bet on a TT2 board and I shoved with AK to get him off of small pairs… and of course he has 2’s full. Everytime I can narrow a player’s range down to very few hands, it always seems like they show up with the goods lately.

Anyways, I just don’t think the vibe is good right now so time to quit for the day. I only ended up down a buyin, but it just seems like random shit is sending me off the deep end right now.

    Update :

Have started grinding off 20k hands in 14 days for the Party bonus.

I'm playing pretty snug 7-9 tabling and things have been going unbelievably bad. All at nl200.

I haven't experienced shitty variance like this since I first started playing cash games almost 2 years ago.

    Fuck me.

I felt pretty good in today's first session. Then I checked results and saw that I had dropped a buyin over 1.5k hands.

Just fired up another session but knew the results were really really bad after about 30 mins so I just stopped cuz I felt shitty. Just checked and sure enough... -847$ in 369 hands.

Just for the shit of it I'll post the big hands from my 400 hand session :

Villain in this hand was a nit running at 17/12. Didn’t have a great postflop read.

Preflop is pretty much always a suited connector or PP. I check the flop to let him bluff small pairs – which I find these villains almost always do (putting HERO on big cards).

The way the action went, villain never has the nut or 2nd nut flush (assuming my preflop read is correct) and on the turn his range is 333, a straight with J9s, a flush and a bluff with a small pair. I decide to make the big turn call with the intention of calling any 4-flush board (unless the river brings the A or K of hearts, in which case it makes sense for him to shove a bit light with the 3rd or 4th nuts).

The river is a good card for me. I don't see him turning a str8 into a bluff so his shoving range gets really really narrow : 3’s full hoping I have a flush and can call and… the stone-cold str8 flush nuts. FWIW I’d play JT without a heart the exact same way if I decided to go with the hand on the turn.

This next one is just a standard preflop play I make a lot when villains show lots of 3-betting aggression from the blinds. Rather than get fancy, I just shove TT+, suited aces and AK+. I love playing postflop in position but when I’m doing heavy multitabling this is a pretty tough strategy to play against and requires less tricky postflop thinking.

The result is that I usually have decent equity when called, get action on my monsters and usually get ppl to tighten up their 3-betting range which is great. Here the guy timed down to 2 secs before calling :

This next hand was a semi-tough spot but I couldn’t find a fold since the villain was a 25/20 aggro with a high flop aggression. I usually see these players play overs +FD very aggressively.

If I stop and ask myself “what does he play this way that I beat?” I have a tough time finding an answer. But since I raised the flop and pretty much hit gin on the turn… Oh well :

    Unfortunately nothing good to report.

Played 1.2k hands just now at 17/13, got AA and KK 10 times combined and ended up - 2.5 buyins with them. Also ended up at -1k for the session.

God I'm sick of dropping 5 buyins every session. Make it stop.

Ok here are today’s 10 biggest losers in descending order :

1: Villain is 24/20 aggro. We have been splashing quite a bit both pre and postflop. I have been getting the better of him (called him down with A high, value bet thin in a cpl of reraised pots).

5: I get tricky and get stacked. Btn’s range is so looooooose (he s running at 60/14) and sb’s is pretty wide as well. I had been tight at the table so I think 4-betting gets a hand as strong as JJ or QQ to fold from the SB and obviously the button rarely has a shoving/calling hand when I 4-bet. Also I’m pretty sure when I play it the way I chose to the button will often go crazy with AK preflop and stack off postflop with any top pair type hand and often call a bullet with a PP on an innocuous board.

6: Villain is 17/7 but is weird (like limp reraising 55 from utg and stuff) and we have history. Mainly him stacking me with flopped monsters. I raised flop just expecting him to shove but thinking that the odd time he’d call the flop raise and fold to a turn shove.

I dunno what to say. I’ve never come close to experiencing a run this bad before in poker. I might take yet another week off (puke) or even change sites and get on a rakeback-bonus site. I’ll def grinding out the remaining 2 or 3k hands left for the 500$ bonus though.

I dunno maybe I’ve forgotten how to play poker and have become a huge donk? It’s possible.

When I look over these hands I see some iffy spots, maybe a little overaggression with AK preflop (but it's tough to fold it when you'r 3-betting a pretty wide range) but nothing too crazy. 2 of my 5 biggest winners involved really really sick reads the made me 800$ pots I didn't really deserve. I guess I should be encouraged by that but... wow my fking br is decimated right now. It's hard to think nice thoughts.

    LOL

Sad to see this bro, i know alot of ppl went through shit like this and we all felt the same exact way. Changing sites is definitly good at least psychologically, which is the most important thing right now. See u soon and dont give up!!
Nine to five is how to survive - I ain't trying to survive / I'm trying to live it to the limit and love it a lot //

Can offer RB deals on most sites, PM me.

thanks a lot for all the feedback Alex

Ya it s funny you mention flatting the AA and QQ hands. As you can see in most of my HH's I'm not a fan of slowplaying pre, esp since I don't hesitate to get it in w AK. So funny that I'm 2 for 2 today in stacking myself by flatting pre.

I agree that in a downswing it s prob more important to "not lose a big one" than to play for maximum ev, just cuz of tilt reasons... but I rly think that the AA hand is more +ev to flat in that spot.

but whatever, thx a lot for the replies and hopefully I'll be getting sucked out on by you as well at n500 on Crypto.

also, andy is supposed to be down next week so we gotta do it up.

Maybe we should go see the Bute fight Friday?
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?
  22. #172
the big thing i was going to suggest is to cut down on some of the very very high variance plays. a lot of the combo draw stuff is obv +EV in a vacuum, but taking the psychological stuff into consideration it probably isnt so clear.

id really just focus on playing solid poker which i know sounds really cliche, but basically when the choice is really marginal and you dont know what to do between shoving, folding, whatever, id say take the more passive route so that you can get your head back together.

yea, itll prob be sacrificing some immediate ev, but spewing while tilting is probably worse in terms of winrate. you obviously have the game to beat these levels, i think the biggest thing is the mindset. when i went through similar streaks, that was definitely the biggest thing for me.

pick up "elements of poker" by tommy angelo and give that a read. it really does a good job of going over the other aspects of poker.

also, yea, im going to be coming up this friday. we will definitely have a blast, even if you bust your roll.

I had swung back up some and had 1.5k hands to grind off today for the P arty bonus (with points redemption, about 800$).

Here are the 2 big hands I won. As you can see, I won both by playing pretty non-standard :

Both were vs taggy regs. Both got their asses owned. Not that I think they played badly…

Now for the rest of the big hands. Apparently Party management got word of my upcoming departure (to a site with more rakeback and bonuses and such; running bad makes it seem impossible to win money and I need something to balance it off). My doomswitch was officially back on today:

Villain here was a loose-passive donkey. I really think this is close to a fold on the flop. Gah.

This is close to a flop fold. With a read that villain who raises was solid I’d have folded, but there was too much random top-pair protecting going on at this table for me to fear better draws a huge part of the time.

Amazingly, these all happened during today’s 1.5k hand 2-part session.

Fuck you, Party Poker and Fuck you, Variance.

I’m done with this for a little while. Gonna move my roll to another site and do a bunch of schoolwork this week. GL all.

Ok I'm done with Party and have started playing on another site with rakeback and bonuses.

I'm gonna start out with nl200 (or nl100 pounds) with a relatively small BR and see what happens.

Taking a week off did wonders for my head. I railed a friend at 5-10 and helped him win some moniez, which was fun.

I think I'm going to take this thread back to it's original format : only gonna post the interesting hands.

There's just no need for me to whine about beats and talk about variance. My last little run had been so fucking bad that I guess I just needed to vent somewhere, so hopefully I'm done with that.

Here's a fun hand from today... actually the last hand of the session. Villain was splashy, a bit donkish and INSTA-called flop, then thought for a few seconds before calling the turn :

Here are couple more hands from the first days since changing sites. Haven’t played much, but trying to really focus hard and play good laggy 4-tabling poker.

I haven’t spewed once yet and have done really well in some pretty marginal spots.

Here villain and I had tangled and I had just pushed him off a big hand (according to his chat). He runs at 14/7 preflop so he can definitely have a good ace in his range :

I think this was probably my best hand of the session, given reads.

Limp-caller was a shorty 53/18 fish whose range was definitely not only top pair +. Cold-caller OOP was a 41/17 player who peeled lots of flops. Of course the risky thing about this play is that I have so little equity when behind… I felt that the dead money in the pot compensated, especially since I felt that the cold-caller on the flop would fold such a huge % of his range :

Finally, here’s a pretty cool one from yesterday :

Villain here was pretty passive in general, but raising virtually every BvB situation. I would vary my play here typically with Ax but here I decided to call pre and raise all flops that were good ones to c-bet.

On the river it REALLY looks like he’s trying to push me off of a split…

Here’s a pretty interesting one. The real point of interest is the flop.

I 3-bet pretty small to protect as well as to get him to tell me what was up. It may sound lame (I’m not a big fan of “raising for info”) but this villain had just posted OOP and seemed donkish. I figured he’s flat-call his draws and shove his big hands.

I’d have been getting a great price but I ***could*** have folded to a flop shove. Doubt it though; it would’ve depended on timing.

when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?
  29. #179
I’m tilted so gonna stop. The hands that set me off were just coolers so no point in talking about them.

There were def a couple of interesting spots though that I think are worth posting… Such as :

This turn spot was really really tough.

Villain here had been playing pretty insane in his first few orbits, betting full pot with a wide range postflop and raising random amounts preflop (from 2x all the way to 5x).

I considered 3-betting pre, but figured he’d be calling almost 100% of the time and I’d be OOP with about a potsized bet left and air a pretty big % of the time on the turn. Another reason for the flat call pre is that I think he c-bets flops that I hit well (A high or T high) 100% of the time so I’m getting nice implied odds when I do hit… usually.

When he 2-barrels the turn with 3 of us seeing it, I really have to think about folding my hand. The 3rd player in was basically just adding dead money to the pot (he had any pair, any hand like QJ looking to hit the turn, any gutter, any A... etc). I had just made a huge call with bottom pair vs the villain though and felt like he would be tilt-potting a decent % of the time so I just decided to go with it. The gut was telling we to be careful and I almost folded… Meh.

Here’s I think the most interesting hand of the session. Villain here was running about 26/14 and had twice 4-bet my squeezes (I folded pretty strong hands both times) and also called down a 2-barrel with top pair weak kicker (I showed down a turned straight draw and the riv went check-check) that picked up a straight draw on the turn. So he definitely views me as aggressive.

On the other hand he’s seen me check overpairs on the flop (although I only did it a couple times vs nits whose range consisted of sets and underpairs that whiffed… but he doesn t necessarily know that and could potentially view me as trappy). So I check the flop looking to fold to his bet (since I’d doubt he folds anything as strong as A-high but will check behind with a bunch of marginal hands allowing me to value-bet 1, maybe 2 streets when I hit a 6-outer).

After he checks behind his hand looks to me like a small pair or A or K high. There’s a small chance he has a monster… but there are just so few hands that hit that flop hard. Also, I’m pretty sure he’d try to take the pot down with air (in this spot I’d definitely consider A or K high stronger than “air”) after I check so his range to me looks a LOT like A high or a small pair going for pot control since I may be trapping with something like QQ.

The turn call is my worst play in this hand, but I really felt like I had a hand that could check-raise almost any non-Ace, non spade river and value-bet and K or J. Also I don’t like the regs to think they can auto-bet when I check OOP. Also, he pretty much never has a flush here for obvious reasons.

The river comes perfect for me. Also his bet size is great since it shifts his range towards monsters and bluffs. All big spades missed and I don’t see him value-betting this strongly with a rivered Q (what can I call him with that he beats?). But I can’t call profitably since A high will win the showdown a good % of the time so I go for a fake value-checkriase to get him off air (which for the most part will have big spades), small pairs that are bluffing (pretty unlikely imo). I don’t encounter many players at this level capable of calling a checkraise without a very strong hand here.

This hand is interesting because of the double-trapping going on. The river was a close spot since JJ pretty much equals AA… so what can villain have? Also, we have history with villain, who is a huge nit (14/8… cold-calling AK preflop etc). bluffraising (?) things like 99 on QQJ boards… so he can definitely show up with a random bluff here.

Only problem is that it looks like suuuch a value-raise. Bleh. One of the reasons for the flop check was that I figured his flop bluffraising range would be pretty balanced (since I’d seen him bluffraise underpairs on paired boards before). A pretty tough hand.

I’ve been getting absolutely murdered at the new site I’ve been playing. For the first time since I was a noob, I’ve had to redeposit just to keep playing.

Regardless, I think I’ve been playing great and really haven’t gotten it in bad much until today when my AKs ran into a whale’s AA ai preflop. I flopped top pair + NFD but somehow whiffed.

Here are a couple hands. I’m uber-tilted right now so gonna take a break.

    my god

the games late at night on Interpoker are completely ill

just finished an 800 hand session 3-tabling HU vs 2 different opponents, both of whom had vpip's over 80 and preflop raise % over 50

6 times in 700 hands both my opponent and myself were dealt QQ+ (not AK... big ole purrs). Twice top two ran into top set... the swings and coolers were completely epic.

funny thing is, only reason I fired up the tables was to pass the time while I played a 22$ 180 man on stars, which i won! ship the 1.8k.

I ended up leaving the 3 tables with stacks of 600, 700 and 800$... and ended up down 18$ for the ring game session WTF unreal

no hands cuz I'm too tired, but my god was it exhausting.

ok I'm gunning for 16k hands between now and the end of March

Hopefully during that span I can improve my W$@SD which, unbelievably, is right around 40% so far, despite me tightening up significantly as I play 8 tables.

Most of the hands will be played at 1-2 while 6-8 tabling in super robotagg mode.

I feel like I've really come into this style lately and am able to play it really really well and efficiently with very little emotional investment, unlike the peak of my lagg days where it seemed like I either tilted myself or the entire table...

Results are irrelevant but - just for the sake of reminding myself that I AM playing poker to make money at some point - I'll aim for a very modest winrate of 2ptbb/100 over 16k hands. Based on my rate so far, I should be able to generate about 650$ in rakeback so the financial goal for this end-of-month push is 1900$.

    Let me gogogo.

pfft pound conversions not being included in graph ftw

also I have to stop running so hot cuz I'm getting a little out of control with the hyper aggro plays and big calls.

I've officially swung down after losing 4 straight flips for buyins at plo and a bunch of coolers at nl in my past 1.5k hands or so but it doesn't really bug me. 1 hand was a pretty crazy unnecessary spew and that bugs me.

I'm really disappointed and embarassed right now so I'm gonna post what pissed me off so that I don't do it again.

Tonight I sat down at my secondary site at nl1-2 uncapped and doubled a shorty up (40$ to 80$). Then he doubled up to 160.

Then he doubled up to 320$

    Then I raised A8s

Flop J88 I pot he calls

Turn K (rainbow) I pot he calls

River K I pot he instashoves

I tank and call and lose to KJ.

At this point I should've just realized that my call was pretty terrible (since there's no reason to think he was bluffing) and quit.

Instead I reloaded to 650$ and 3 bet the 1st hand with QJss.

    He 4-bet and I snap-called and insta shoved a Q high flop.

He called with KK and ended the carnage, insta-quitting after I reloaded to cover him at 1.4k.

Since the beginning of April, I'm up about 13k in roughly 18k hands, playing mainly late at night, often when drunk and high.

Thing is, I find that my enthusiasm for poker and patience while playing is heightened when fucked up, but in this case, my lack of sobriety definitely hurt me. Maybe the reason it seemed so easy playing fucked up in the past 5 or 6 weeks is that I just ran really well.

This is particularly annoying since I'm back on the verge of sitting as a regular in higher games at 2-4 and up.

I don't know what to say besides I'm disappointed in myself. I'm hoping to grind lots of hands 2morrow playing my A game.

I've cooled down and thought about tonight a bit.

One thing that this 5 minute tilt-session made me realize is how steady I've been and just how far I've come in terms of discipline and self-control.

This is probably the 1st gross tilt I've exhibitied in months and I can really be proud of that.

    Things have been going well

I'm really busy with the last big piece of work I'll ever have to do academically but I've been playing around 1k hands/day and continuing to do well

I'm really cut down on spewing and I've think I've gotten much better at choosing high % spots for big moves.

Here's one spewy shove I made today that I think looks terrible but wasn't all that bad any comments on it are appreciated.

I mix it up w cold calling and 3 betting pre here but I had 3 bet the btn a cpl times in the past orbits so I felt like he'd be defending pretty often and would be able to own my in position with stacks above 120bb's pretty often.

Villain in the BB has squeezed a few times but I haven't seen a showdown. He's 20/17 tagg and seems to be playing well and straightforward.

The big factor for me here was the size of his flop raise.

I haven't posted in forever but I figured I'd make a detailed hand post just for fun.

First off, I don't win showdowns. This is kind of normal since I play a higher variance style but I'm pretty sure I've been generally running cold in '08. Here are some stats since April :

This is a hand that illustrates what I try to do in spots in spots where I choose higher variance routes.

This hand may seem easy, but I think it’s a spot where plenty of taggish regs miss value on the turn. Let’s go through the hand step-by-step :

    Seat 1: FloppyDuc sits out
Seat 3: HERO ($340 in chips)
Seat 4: Marsdawg ($292 in chips)
    Seat 5: lurcher01 ($95.56 in chips)
Seat 6: Jwmoon ($81.24 in chips)
Seat 7: ennitti ($200 in chips)
    Seat 8: LETS_BUST ($199.75 in chips)
Seat 9: BIZZBUZZ ($253 in chips)
Seat 10: Damboland ($218.50 in chips)
    Damboland: posts small blind $1
    HERO: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----
    dealt to HERO
    Marsdawg: folds
    lurcher01: folds
    lurcher01 sits out
Jwmoon: calls $2 (ok so this is rarely very strong! No strong reads but usually this weak open-limp b.s. is small pp’s Ax or SC’s)
    ennitti: calls $2
    LETS_BUST: folds
    BIZZBUZZ: folds
    Damboland: folds
    HERO: checks
    ----- FLOP -----
    HERO: bets $5 (yawn)
    Jwmoon: calls $5

OK. Let’s put villain on a range of hands. The important thing to do here is to assume villains are playing somewhat logically, i.e. protecting their big hands, not calling with total air, etc.

So his calling range imo looks something like :

    -all mid connectors between 5x and 9x (56, 57, 67, 78, 89)
-weak made hands (4x, 8x and Tx)
-small PP’s that just wanna peel a turn and see if I continue
-strong straight draws that can make the nuts (79, J9, QJ, Q9)

When making this bet, the important question to ask yourself is “which turns can I profitably bet for value?” The answer lies in how strongly we weight his range to each of the above-mentioned categories. In this case, since I’m holding a ten, we have to discount the combinations of Tx, therefore making it less likely we’re value-towning ourselves if the turn bricks off. So I plan on betting most A and K turns. Obv I,ll be betting when I improve to 2 pr or trips and I’ll be bet-folding most mid-cards (things like 5, 6 or 7; if villain semi-bluff shoves then I’ll tip my cap to him… most players at these limits are loose and weak so I just expect to call me down)

    ennitti: folds
    ----- TURN -----
    HERO: bets $14

An interesting question is what to do when faced with a raise on this turn… Except in this spot. I’d fold to a raise here almost 100% of the time since most players have a default mentality of “he bet and A hi board, he must have something!” so they’ll rarely raise light.
    lurcher01 sits back
Jwmoon: calls $14… the cool thing about the A on the turn is that it doesn’t really change anything in villain’s range since he now may have reason to believe he has sick implied odds with any str8 draw after I 2-barelled when the A hit the turn.

One consideration is that QJ just picked up a double-gutter and a hand like QJs is def a decent part of an unknown’s MP limping range. The plan is gonna usually be to check-evaluate the river. We’re not very worried at this point about villain having Ax since that would’ve been a total random float and we’d expect him to raise the turn when he made 2 pair with aces up.

    ----- RIVER -----
HERO: checks Wow… what an awesome card. Now we’re pretty sure villain didn’t hit top pair on the turn. The question is whether or not to value-bet. I chose to check for the following reasons :

-bluffs will usually put out a lot of money to get me to fold, so I profit
-I can’t be sure how much money I’ll be able to extract from a hand like 78, so v betting would be VERY thin in this spot obv. Also I don’t expect a random villain to turn a hand like 4x or 7x into a bluff and put me into a tough spot.
-the hands that will feel compelled to bet when checked to (straight draws i.e. air) greatly outnumber the made hands that will pay me off (since I am holding a ten), so I think the value of check-call is far greater than the value of bet-fold

Jwmoon: bets $60.24 and is all-in
    HERO: calls $60.24
    ----- SHOW DOWN -----
Jwmoon: shows (A Pair of Aces, Queen high)
HERO: shows (Two Pairs, Aces and Tens, Nine high)
HERO collected $162.48 from Main pot

So this hand worked out pretty well. I see a lot of regs who auto-check this turn, thinking "I don't wanna build a pot vs this donkey's Ax that just sucked out on me". I think both the results for the hand and the ranges I assigned villain's holdings show why it's probably more profitable to bet this turn, even OOP.

I Over the next few days, I’ll try and post some other hands, both that were awesome and that didn’t work out so well, with detailed analysis.

Playing to get unstuck is bad.

Problem is, there's nothing more satisfying than turning a bad session into a nice win.

Tonight, I sat down and played some PLO100 and 200. I think my game is decent, although I'm def losing money to the regs, and things started out o.k. PLO being PLO, I ran into some variance that wasn't fun. So after dropping 4 buyins at the plo200 table I decided to leave it and go "get unstuck" at NLHE.

I don't track PLO with pokertracker but here are the nlhe hands after deciding it was time to win some money. Things started out kind of meh but I made some pretty big folds that I think were decent and felt like I was playing well

This hand was pretty gross. There’s a small % of times where villain is pushing me off a split or turning a 2pr hand into a bluff but the insta-shove seemed strong here. Bleh :

One thing I do from time to time that is very uncommon (and completely unnecessary to being a winning player at these stakes) is check-raise the river as a bluff. I'd like to think that I do it with a balanced range, but much of the time it just comes down to three things :

-villain is a reg who is capable of folding relatively strong hands

-villain knows I make aggro calls so value-bets me thinly when I look to be in check-call mode

-Spidey sense (lol but it's true)

I'm only talking about this because in reviewing my session, I noticed I had taken this line with two pretty big bluffs tonight. I felt really confident with both of them based on table dynamics and timing but I'll post the raw HH's just for fun. Both villains were on the tighter side of tagg and thinking. Another thing to notice (and this is where lots of ppl disagree with this move) is that there's a decent chance I'm good in both of these spots but I really prefer raising to calling since I think when I call I'm paying off slightly better hands a decent % of the time that are very hard-pressed to call :

Why do you bluff that last one when you have a decent showdown hand?

Nice run, pity the 2nd 600 hands didnt go as well as the first 600 .

I think by the river there's a decent chance he's either bluffing or betting AK/AQ that was pot-controlling turn in case I had a monster after c/calling the dry flop.

He likely bets AAA or JJJ 100% of the time on the turn to protect vs random str8 or FD's and is rly rly hard-pressed to call with AK AQ. +He has almost no 3x hands in his opening range besides quadzillas.

Tonight’s session was pretty frustrating and swongy. I started off with a couple brutal coolers and almost stopped to do some flips with my friend Ben.

Instead, I decided to just grind it out. Just as things started slowing down (breaking even instead of losing with sets), Ben convinced me to put my entire stars roll (12$ ftw) on the line at a plo25 table vs him. While 8-tabling on a laptop, IMing and trying to open Riggederstars, I almost lost it, but I’m glad I didn’t. I turned my 12$ into 80ish (mainly random victims but prob half from Ben) and the good karma spilled over to the tables, where I was able to book a small win.

2 hands from the session, a 3-barrel (where I prob pushed villain off a very similar hand or maybe just a busted FD) and a big call after getting a pretty strong timing tell.

    3-barrel :

Villain is Alexos. Not sure which is worse (or sicker?), his shove or my call. Fwiw, I’ve seen him play very very spewy preflop at these stakes, always looking to be the one to get the money in (i.e. 4-bet shoving A6o to my 3-bet and a cold-caller from the blinds after he raised from the cutoff).

I'll preface this post with a graph of my last 50k hands at teh lowstakes :

Nothing sicko, but def solid results.

Now today. I managed to drop 3.5k in 2k hands without playing a single hand of nl500.

I dropped 1.4k to a single villain playing HU at nl200. This is a pretty bad sign, but fwiw I felt like I was playing pretty well and I def felt like I had an edge on the guy.

To be honest, I sat with the player - who I think is a decent - just for the challenge of beating up on a reg. Ppl were coming in and out at the table but it was pretty much HU for about 45 minutes.

Obv I'd be much better off just playing any medium-soft nl500 game I can find and it's probably a bad result of my BR nittiness, since I am sitting with over 100 buyins for nl200. Err... I WAS sitting on over 100 buyins for nl200 at the start of the day.

I'm not even really tilted but I thought I'd post some hands from the HU match and see if anybody has any input.

Villain was a pretty laggy reg who seemed to RR a pretty strong range but didn't like to fold to 3-bets.

Here was the 1st big pot we played :

At this point he had no reason to think I was overaggro or spewy. I’m 3-betting a very polarized range of junk and big hands to combat his loose 3-bet calling that will easily put me in lots of tough spots with air if I c-bet a decent frequency.

    1)

Table "Gas" Seat 3 is the button.
Seat 1: HERO ($228 in chips)
Seat 3: abunga ($99.30 in chips)
Seat 6: Villain ($328.28 in chips)
    Villain: posts small blind $1
    HERO: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----
    dealt to HERO
    Villain: raises to $8
    HERO: raises to $24
    Villain: calls $16
    ----- FLOP -----
    HERO: bets $35
    abunga sits out
    Villain: calls $35
    ----- TURN -----
    HERO: bets $81
Villain: raises to $269.28 and is all-in
    HERO: is all-in $88
Returned uncalled bets $100.28 to Villain
    ----- RIVER -----
    ----- SHOW DOWN -----
Villain: shows (A Pair of Nines, Ace high)
HERO: shows (A Pair of Eights, Jack high)
Villain collected $455 from Main pot

So right away, I see that he’s not afraid of getting it in light, and my image is kind of shot.

This next hand is kind of gross. At the time, I felt like his range was polarized to 333 and draws. I didn t think about the fact that he could have Kx with hearts that would prob snap the turn, figuring that I'd shove the flop with better made hands.

    2)

Table "Gas" Seat 1 is the button.
Seat 1: HERO ($218.90 in chips)
Seat 6: Villain ($530.58 in chips)
    HERO: posts small blind $1
    Villain: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----

    ----- TURN -----

HERO: raises to $183.90 and is all-in
    Villain: calls $137.90
    ----- RIVER ------
    ----- SHOW DOWN -----
HERO: shows (A Pair of Threes, King high)
Villain: shows (Two Pairs, Kings and Queens, Six high)
Villain collected $436.80 from Main pot

This next big hand seemed kind of standard to me. I dunno, I’ve been playing mainly 6 max lately because none of the regs at these stakes sit with me until it s 3-handed so my only experience has been with drunk fish. Maybe this is spewy?

    3)

Table "Gas" Seat 6 is the button.
Seat 1: HERO ($297.75 in chips)
Seat 6: Villain ($668.03 in chips)
    Villain: posts small blind $1
    HERO: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----
    dealt to HERO
    Villain: raises to $6
    HERO: raises to $23
    Villain: calls $17
    ----- FLOP -----
    HERO: bets $32
    Villain: calls $32
    ----- TURN -----
    HERO: checks
    Villain: bets $48
HERO: raises to $242.75 and is all-in
    Villain: calls $194.75
    ----- RIVER -----
    ----- SHOW DOWN -----
HERO: shows (A Pair of Fives, King high)
Villain: shows (Three of a kind, Fives, King high)
Villain collected $594.50 from Main pot

    4)

Once again, not sure what to say here. He hasn’t slowplayed anything preflop (that I’ve seen at showdown) and he can’t really have any non-set made hands here… or at least that s what I thought :

Table "Gas" Seat 1 is the button.
Seat 1: HERO ($228.30 in chips)
Seat 6: Villain ($948.78 in chips)
    HERO: posts small blind $1
    Villain: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----
    dealt to HERO
    HERO: raises to $7
    Villain: calls $5
    ----- FLOP -----
    Villain: checks
    HERO: bets $11
    Villain: raises to $28
    HERO: calls $17
    ----- TURN -----
    Villain: bets $52
HERO: raises to $193.30 and is all-in
    Villain: calls $141.30
    ----- RIVER -----
    ----- SHOW DOWN -----
HERO: shows (A Pair of Kings, Jack high)
Villain: shows (A Pair of Kings, Ace high)
Villain collected $455.60 from Main pot

    5)

Now I’ve grinded him back a bit (he’s been calling me down really light and I haven’t been bluffing much) and this happens. Nothing to say, just kind of a throw-up-in-your-mouth-that-this-happens-when-running-bad special :

Table "Gas" Seat 1 is the button.
Seat 1: HERO ($481.40 in chips)
Seat 6: Villain ($886.78 in chips)
    HERO: posts small blind $1
    Villain: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----
    dealt to HERO
    HERO: raises to $7
    Villain: raises to $20
    HERO: calls $13
    ----- FLOP -----
    Villain: bets $27
    HERO: raises to $92
    Villain: raises to $178
HERO: raises to $461.40 and is all-in
    Villain: calls $283.40
    ----- TURN -----
    ----- RIVER -----
    ----- SHOW DOWN -----
HERO: shows (Three of a kind, Tens, Ace high)
Villain: shows (Three of a kind, Queens, Ace high)
Villain collected $961.80 from Main pot

Obviously, that was the nail in my coffin. Here’s the last 100bb+ pot. I misread my hand and thought I had a straight, but I really don’t mind this shove on this board even if I knew that I only had Q high :

    fuck me

just as i m moving up to nl500, i find a way to lose 5k at nl200l, 300 and 400 in 2 days with a stellar showdown win % of 29% in 5k hands. Just like that my Interpoker bankroll goes from 21k to 16k and I lose all momentum heading into a move to nl500.

if i plateau at these fucking lame limits I'm seriously just gonna... Well, I dunno what I'm gonna do, but it s gonna involve frustration, alcohol and recklessness.

I made a 5-bet shove after I got min 4-bet by chaotica after making an obvious squeeze. I did it with Kx suited and got snapped off by TT.

After that I figured it would be time to get paid off cuz of my image and just go with AQ+ preflop vs him but, instead, in the last 2 orbits, I got it in Co vs Btn my AQ to chaotica's AK, and then shoved over a flop raise on the drawiest flop ever with BD nut flushdraw and 2nd pair top kicker. Board was KT7cc and I had AcTx.

Villain had Ak obv that he had flatted pre with

I seriously felt like I played great for this entire session... and I dropped 2k... and still didn't play a fucking hand of nl500
