So, I started poker in January of 2010. I deposited 25 bucks and got ridiculously close to busting because
a) I didn't understand variance and ran 10 buyins below EV @ 2nl
b) I sucked at poker (worse than I do now)

Got lucky, ran last couple bucks to a hundred, played 5nl, some 10nl deep and then moved to SNGs.. overall I've been a breakeven cash player but I haven't played any cash in a long time.

Sngs have been going really well for me @ 3.40 turbos and recently mostly 4.10 KOs. I recently busted 1K and have about 1.4K now. I play ridiculous over-rolled it's not even funny anymore. I'm not having too much fun either.

So, yes I can beat fish at micro SNGs... But my goal for this month is too

[ ] Play 100+ 13.5 KOs per week.
[ ] Try a 27 KO when games are soft
[ ] post some goddamn hands to think about and improve my game.
[ ] post weekly summary on weekends
[ ] ***STUDY***

first week went well and I'm confident I have a positive ROI in 6.75 and 13.5 have feesch too!


Also I need to work on actually posting on ftr as opposed to reading it (although that has been the main help to my game so far).

So we're all being assholes... anyways. end up HU where he pwns me when 64o makes nut str8 on KT357... I raise KK pre, check flop, bet, he calls says "you are trapping" .. I say.. o yeah I am... and shove river. I have awful image by now fwiw. I get pwnt and laughed at :P awesome. Happy to have made his day after I attempted to ruin it (I was bored 1 tabling.... bad).

also, stars support kicks ass. echeck --> bank in like 3 days and they sent me a spreadsheet of all my previous tourneys when I asked for one in like an hour or 2.

Successes in following
2 barrel/3barrel when I find spots. Doing extremely well here (granted small sample) Mostly just firing 2nd barrel more often since i realized how easily I was exploiting people who only cbet and then gave up every time w/o TPGK+. Alot of the time I find myself doing this out of the big blind when it's 2 or 3 ways and flops come crappy like 227r, K44 or 236 etc. It seems my first bet is interpreted as a steal (and it is), and I don't get respect until I fire turn. It's actually nice to play this hand oop too since you get to act 1st and can just lead and lead out again bigger on turn vs certain player types and get folds consistently out of anything less than TPTK

Week 1 went well, just need to get 2 the grind. I run soo G00T until the last couple days. Kinda running like balls right now but still b/e over last stretch.

Also started 8 tabling. I actually like it better than 6. More volume, more action and the tables are bigger, just have 2 in each corner. So assuming I average 3/4 hr per sng it will take me
8*(4/3)= 10.5/hr = 20 hrs per week for 200 games. EZ.. thats like 3 hours a day.

Going to be in between 11th-20th for sng leaderboard so +40 there too.

well, i failed to put in any real volume this last week. I did make some moniez though which is nice! played the 3x shootout twice and final tabled both times (luckboxing vs fish) This actually accounts for like 100$ of my profit, sadly i never actually ran good once i got to the FT... I also played a couple more 13.50 KOs.. quite soft fields today on the weekend.

Alright, think I'm done for this week. Played 170 games for 194$ of profit. almost all 6.75 KOs... I started out good, somehow became a pathetic weak-tight nit... so am reversing that... am breakeven over last 75 games.. idk, not feeling very confident. Am breakeven again for today.

Goals
200 games: sleight fail, but I'm going to study my game and that's a better investment of time.
Play 13.50 KOs: FAIL, became weaktight @ current lvl so I'm fixing that first.

I guess it's not so bad, A little disheartening at the moment but 75 games is so little in the big picture and I know my play was beating fish @ the 6.75s for over 400 games... roi is like 24% over what's about 500 games...
Just need to get into the right headspace.. prolly take sunday off.

Well experienced the "fun" of variance this month. Not really sure how accurately hem ai luck works. Especially as far as bounties which are .25 of a buy-in. But it does a good job of showing general trending. Just finished my 100 games for the week.. ran awful today to barely miss getting a battle of the planets bonus.

I am fucking horrible at poker. I just tilt shoved 72o cuz it was a pretty hand HU 20bbd and got called by 75o.. and I just fucking suck. that said I'm up alot this month. In theory I need to play 48 more games by tomorrow night for bop leaderboard. I don't know if I can. I'm like 1 in 8 HU today. and I don't generally shove 72o fwiw. grr.

K, I've decided I'm going to get up tomorrow and get 2 the grind we'll see if I can get the games in. Either way 20$ to whomever posts next if I fail to get up and post by 9am (PST).

Up a bit for the week. Haven't been playing my A game or putting in enough volume... just cleared 750 vpp 4 month and my first 50 vip stellar bonus... I would need to average 24$ (24 games @ this level) of rake per day to make goldstar. Certainly possible. fire-season is epic fail / non-existant.

Thinking about foraying into cash again pretty soon. I'll be moving back to austria in the fall and would like to spend some time in casino's there. Yay, I can do anything I want at 18 there :P

Variance in poker sure is funny. Seems like you get a premium every 10 hands for a decent sample (like 2.5K hands) and then you go dry for a decent spell. It all even outs no doubt.. Just sayin'.. poker is rigged

random note but alot of the crazies at the tables (who pwned me ) were like -30% roi over 2000 games... and down 5+ grand. I don't get how I could sit infront of the computer that long playings 10-20$ buyins when I was obviously getting raped.. It's a good thing though, I'm glad they are there and I hope they donate a bit more to me tomorrow...

So I'm going to outline a 6-day op to make goldstar this month and learn how to actually grind out some volume.

1) I will be a robot and click buttons calmly and make decisions that are +ev
2) If I drop overs 20 buyins @ the 13.50s and I feel it's largely attributed to bad play I will quit. goldstar really isn't worth that much.
3) I will need just over 30 games per day and I plan on playing 2 hours in the a.m., maybe and hour or two during the middle of the day even though tables suck, and 2-4 hours after 5 pm
4) I will play 6 tables to start but If I feel I'm playing well and tables are decent I will 8 table which will make goldstar much more achievable.

a. the 250 euro giftcard for 19,300 fpp is a super good deal. Assuming a euro is 1.20$ (and it's more) you are getting 1.55 cent/fpp which is better than any deal by miles except for supernova bonus and such. I'm saving for one of these (will buy an rsa token once I make goldstar or if I don't). You can chose amazon, pixmania, etc. I'll use it to buy 2 new monitors or a 27" for europe.

b. I will never mass-table the low stakes for an average return of less than 1$ per game. It's not what poker is about and it's a waste of my time. Many of the regs I see at these levels are from 3rd world countries and just play like nits on 10+ tables and will probably never improve...

really happy with my play and the tables are treating me well..

running b/e 27s but good enough in 13s to make it profitable overall. I feel like the bump is a pretty big one. there's a few very good regs at the 27s and the games aren't "lawl, they're all doing it wrong" anymore. bad players here and there but they aren't the majority. it's fun because I need to learn new things to keep up and is more mentally challenging. Going to study 3betting in sngs as I rarely resteal. and opening and 3betting ranges seem much wider in the right spots. I can't just nitbox my way to 20%+ roi anymore.. but that's ok.

We had a magic (the cardgame) contest thing today and I decided to go do that and it took 5 hours. pretty fun game. haven't played in years.

Thread in sng forum about Profit vs day of week Hoping to see some discussion there. It could still be a coincidence but a very weird one to have 2 random players winning less on friday/saturday over a decent but by no means amazing sample. Not saying the games are rigged :rolls eyes: but are we failing to adjust to weak players? not giving them credit when they raise because we know they suck even though they're 40/2 over 50 hands?

Saturday I didn't play too much but played well enough

Sunday I was going to grind as I'd never grinded before and luckily I only had my first table booted when my internet decided to die for the whole day. This left me rather pissed.

I instead continued reading the middle 3rd of Moshman's sng book and the thing that stuck out most was I am too passive on the bubble without a clear stack lead. "you don't want to bubble, but they don't want to bubble either because they don't want to call." Lawl w/e that doesn't apply to my small stakes . . . "These players finish in 2nd, 3rd, and bubble more often" Hmmh that sounds like me (minus the bubbling because people at my stakes love getting in stacks on a flip @ bubble).

Being aggressive on the bubble (and in general) is also valuable because knocking a player out is worth .25 of a buyin. And first is worth an extra .5 buyins because you take your own as well.

Today: Yay my internet works. Needed my fix after 2 days of playing very little. I focused on being more agressive on the bubble and playing A+ game. I ran like god pretty much. played well and was favored by the RNG to boot played like 25 games because I had to go to town and I'm quitting now because I have to get up and get firewood at 5 am...

odd note 66 is SO much better than any Ax or Axs where x is less than like T vs a wide (any two here) range. I kind of already knew that. but 66 is way better than 33 or 44 because there are so many ATC combos with 4,5,6s in them making you at least a 7:3 roughly.

So I'm playing play money cuz that's what ballers do and then I realize A2345 is NOT a good hand in 2-7 lowball ...weeee itm

Why is b. great you might ask. Well it's quite simple. Sure I've run well and run bad and . . . but I'm beating the 10's at a quite solid clip over a 600 game sample. no doubt my roi is closer to 25 than almost 35. But the fact that I have some pretty big leaks means that I can improve a great amount and make more moneys / play better poker at higher stakes. Played a couple 27s today still not so comfy there though.

Leaks include:
actually don't have an amazingly good push/fold game. Decent but could be better. Mainly I don't know when to call pushes or not. Need to make love with sngwiz, that's why I shelled out 100 for it.
I shove hands too deep when I feel "F**k it. I want to win some chips and if we see a flop I'll miss / cbet fail /shoved into w/e" so I shove AK 15 bbd when I could take some fish to valuetown.
I shove too wide for same reasons often also too deep with weak aces or baby pairs in marginal position.
I autopilot alot. Not cuz 8 tables is too many but because I don't want to think about it.

Lots of grinding next 2 days to clear last 30$ of WCOOP reload and need 1.4K vpp more for goldstar this month too. GL all.

Just put in a session of 5nl 6-max. I found the game to be alot more enjoyable the sngs. maybe just because of the scenery change. Played a lol sample (300 hands) 4 tabling during the last hour and running 24/20 or so which I think should suit me fairly well. Up 6 buyins. Is a 150bb/100 winrate good?

Still gonna be a sitngo grinder for now but I'll do some 6max couple times a week few hours a day.

bump since it's been exactly a month. not much volume this month and might be donating my 85$ to other grinderschool members in bc prop. Rebuilding my roll on stars since I withdrew all except 200$ when stars left washington. In europe now grinding 6.75s for another 50 bucks so I have 350 to go to 13.50s with a 10 bi move back down. 6max went awful at fulltilt and the software drove me crazy (just general look and styling mostly)

then each table plays down to 4 who move on (no table balancing).
those 16 restarted blinds at 300-600 after we were at 800-1600 before.
Basically it was alot of beginners / casino fellas. took 2nd for a profit of 300 euros which is 420 (yay) dollars after a few drinks, etc.

I'm really not sure what I think about the format. I <3 shortstacked play and have a decent grasp so have a pretty big edge given this is a weird hyper turbo. but I have to go to the casino spend 3 hours etc for a small average yield.

Also opti botched a hand with Aces. In like 5 ways. blinds are 300/600 with utg limper czech who has string raised (when actually betting) at least 3 times in a row now. He has about 10K but I though he had around 4K pre so I make it 1600 on the button. nitty old sb lady flats (~ 9K)and we see a flop. I cover both by a little bit. flop comes T66 two tone. sb checks, czech looks opti happy bets like 1400 into 5500. One of my aces is to the backdoor flush and it's here I realize we are somewhat (lol given format) deep. decide to call which is huge mistake #2 (first being lol sizing pre). sb flats. turn comes offsuit 8. sb check, czech is like weee allin. I'm like meh the czech has so many 6's in his range, sb is prolly apt to slowplays. Think about it decide I want another while at the table out of my 50$. sb calls and turns over 88. czech shows a5s for flushdraw.

obv I'm happy I folded to the 7K or so. But I played super -ev here pre, flop, and turn given pot odds for "I wanna sit at da table ev" if you will.

on a less fun note. 13 hours of poker in next 2 days for bc prop bet (not grinderschool like i said in previous post) and then I go on poker vacation for a bit. bedtime and up early cuz tomorrow is at least 7 hours of poker.

October was decent. made about 400 online and 400 live. Have a decent roll on stars again (530.00) so I'll be back to bread and butter at the 13.50 KOs until roll is over 1200.00 where I will take a 10 buyin shot at the 27s again.

Also I've noted there is a lot of "dead time" while I am on the computer. This is time where I am accomplishing nothing of value. Not learning, not entertained, not playing poker. Do others have this problem and how do you attempt to avoid wasting time on the comp?

One thing I got alot better at this last month was just clicking buttons and not caring about results as long as my play felt solid. Even when I was 8 tabling I only got ~6.5 tables per hour because I played such short (1 set) sessions. If I play through 2 or 3 sets I could be getting 8-10 games / hour considering average length is about 50 minutes. This obviously leads to a much better hourly. Just 6 tabling for now on one monitor.

Doing alright in one sense (stars BR is at 720$ after 110 from BC prop and additionally I have a 82€ step D ticket that I will try to satellite into 512€ Qual for an ept event (long shot ldo)).

Doing horribly as far as playing with mental concentration and patience. Kind of preoccupied with figuring out what I want to do here in Europe + with the rest of my life.

But here are my life + poker goals for foreseeable future:
-I have at least 3 or 4 months of living expenses saved up at the moment. Obviously I don't want to spend these in 3 or 4 months but there is no pressure to get a job or make 1K at poker this month or else go hungry.
Chill and Enjoy Austria in the winter, just getting a snowboarding setup together. Live a financially tight lifestyle (no 8$ drinks when I go out!) Main expenses will be some food, lift tickets, and a 2nd monitor if I earn it by playing well and putting in volume.
-Find my "A" game (no idea where she went)
-Do some german reading, writing, (or some TV watching) on a daily basis to improve so I can go to college in 3 months if I decide to do so for 2nd semester.

Random Thoughs:
Your bankroll is not a financial asset so long as you are playing poker with it. I do not have 1000$ even though I have that much online. It is a tool to make money which only becomes money when I withdraw it.

Also I have good internet now and would be happy to sweat someone / have them sweat me from really any sng type or full ring game (I'll be playing 9 mans)

Need to start playing some decent poker again now. I feel like I'm playing well but just getting crushed (breakeven) over a 200 game sample now. Not playing alot of volume. Shoved 3bb blind atc live last night and looked down and saw kings from utg 4 handed. They busted on the river and it kinda hurt. Looked over my 2nl fr sample and ran like 26/9 (mostly from when I started poker at the beginning of this year) but have a decent winrate and actually played alot better for last 3 or 4 K hands. So going to play some 5nl when I'm in the mood.
