    Default Mission: Pro = Porsche

Alright, we've all read these types of threads over and over again. It is typically an overly ambitious, young, "okay" poker player who writes these things: "I'm gonna be disciplined and dedicated and make millions!" I admit to having these notions once upon a time, but now I've calmed down and taken things into a more mature perspective as it is time to truly go pro. In short:

I have 60 days to find an apartment that will trust me when I say "I can pay the rent."

We all think about the poker side of playing pro, but we often neglect the practical stuff. How in the hell do I prove to anyone that poker will be my main source of STEADY income?! Sure, I have a nice bankroll to sit on (it'll be around 15-20K in 60 days) and good credit, but is that enough?

Currently, I'm 14-18 tabling the $12 180-mans and the $27 45-mans. I'm running 70% ROI in the 180s and 20% ROI in the 45s. That scary part is that I don't know if a 5.2k sample is large enough to tell me if this can sustain.

Right now, as a full-time student-athlete at University of Chicago, time is pretty restricted so I can't play much. As a pro, obviously that'll change. I'll be playing about 400-500 tournaments a week, at least 1800 a month. And presumably I'll be moving up in stakes and taking shots when I can.

All that said, I think I'm in the right position to tackle such a tall order. The only problem I'm facing right now is: "where will I set up shop?"

    Any advice guys?

    Thanks

    TL

Hey man, I'm a student athlete at North Central in Naperville, IL. I have no where near your BR but I am really becoming serious about trying to make poker at least a contributing part of my income. What I have found, however, is that a lot of added pressure tends to be -EV. Juggling school, sports, and poker is already a pretty big deal and when you start to view it in the light of "I have to make this money asap to survive" it really doesn't turn out so well. My advice to you is just to always make sure that you keep enough money available all the time to live comfortably within your means so as to not add that extra pressure. Try to not let it come down a month to month thing where if you have a losing month as pretty much every poker player in history is bound to have eventually that it doesn't put you in such a pinch that the next month becomes a race to make money.

That said, I'm not a tournament player so I'm not sure about what equates to a solid sample but I can say that one of my friends was supporting himself just fine for a while 12-tabling $6 and $12 dollar ones.

    Good luck dude

I had no idea that that was turned off. I think I turned it back on though.

Hell, Why not turn this into a blog-ish thingy? I'm mostly got this idea because I'm fuming after my last session/last week. To say the least, I'm approaching a breaking point of variance tolerance. As of the last week, I'm down 87 BIs!!!!!! What the HELLLLLLL is going on. This is definitely my longest stretch of bullshit.

Just had to let it out... when it turns around, my next blog with have plenty of smiley faces... until then

    fucking mtt variance

GL Im_New. Def make this thing a full-fledged blog imo. 99% of the threads here are by cash players -- which is fine -- but a little variety wouldn't kill us.

I'll be following man. I had a -26 buying downswing recently myself, graph looked like a fucking inverse parabola, fml. You'll come out of it.

Thanks Penny! I'm taking the day off to cool down and read some Kill Everyone.
