    Default Charlie'$ Phat Poker Operation

G'day mates, i'm Charlie, I grind 2NL Hold'em and am slowly building my bankroll. This is a space for me to look at my thematic hands and reflect on them, think out-loud, watch any progression... And anything else I want, what of it? I'm always happy for players to critique my hands and I actually would really appreciate any guidance people can give if they got some time and wanna help a brutha out.
First thing I’m beginning to notice is that playing reasonably tight ABC poker without doing anything tricky is winning at this level. I’ve also noticed there is a tendency for players to call overbets, and I am making more money by betting more than I think is appropriate.

Anyway, first hand of hopefully many, the theme today being protection:

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (6 handed) - Full Tilt Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com/

    UTG ($2.52)
    Hero (MP) ($1.31)
    CO ($3.19)
    Button ($0.98)
    SB ($0.97)
    BB ($1.90)

Preflop: Hero is MP with K, K
UTG calls $0.02, Hero raises to $0.12, 2 folds, SB calls $0.11, 1 fold, UTG calls $0.10

Preflop raise was a bit exaggerated…I was fairly sure someone would call though, that seemed to be the happening thing at this table...loose and passive, just the way I like 'em.

    Flop: ($0.38) 5, 8, 9 (3 players)

I put SB range around: {99+, AT+,A9s, KJ+,KTs,QJ,JTs,T9s} (128/1081) at this stage and
UTG (who was playing preeetty loose) at: {TT-22, A2+, KT+,K8s+,QT+, JT, 54s+} (312/1081)

SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $0.38, 2 folds

I wonder if this was a good bet. It was a protective bet, I wanted to make it unprofitable for them to call with flush draws. Looking at what I think they would consider calling with (remaining flush draws, sets etc.) I think SB had about 63/1081 combos (range equity at 12.90% vs KK) with which he may call or raise and UTG had around 104/1081 hands to call/raise (range equity 35.16% vs KK). I haven't provided the actual ranges I put them on because they are too annoying to reformat out of equilab.

I bet 38c into a 38c pot. So for either of them to get good odds individually, they will be investing 38c into 76c pot: 38/(38+76) = 33%.
SB is not in a good position to call with his range...UTG's equity is 35% so he is in a position to justifiably call/raise.
I have a feeling my raise was about right though (maybe it should have been slightly larger?). If he calls he is justified, but I still am winning here 65% of the time, so this also serves as a reasonable value bet.

Total pot: $0.38 (You read right. 38 big ones.) | Rake: $0.01

    Welcome to blogs, good luck!

Your sizing is a bit on the big side, I think around $0.30 would be fine here. But yes definitely bet, but proceed very cautiously facing a flop raise.

Thanks for the welcome! And thanks for the feedback! It does seem a bit over the top I agree ... and sorry I actually meant I bet 38c, not raised to 38c! My noobness shining through already

    My hand for today:

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (8 handed) - Full Tilt Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

    Button ($1.35)
    SB ($0.98)
    BB ($1.38)
    UTG ($0.48)
    UTG+1 ($1.51)
    MP1 ($1.43)
    Hero (MP2) ($3.21)
    CO ($16.39)

    Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 6, 5
    UTG raises to $0.04, UTG+1 calls $0.04, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.04, 3 folds, BB calls $0.02

    Flop: ($0.17) 4, 5, 8 (4 players)
BB checks, UTG bets $0.06, UTG+1 calls $0.06, Hero calls $0.06, 1 fold

I felt really awkward with this call even though in retrospect I feel in should have been quite straight forward. Intuitively, I was really on the fence about whether I should be calling or not. The call was 6c into 35c, so my pot odds are 6/(6+35) = 15%.
    And some ranges:
UTG was playing a bit loose at the time:
    {99-22,A2+,KT+,QT+, JT+,T9+,98+, 87+,J9s+,T8s+,97s+,86s+,75s+,64s+,53s+,43s,32s} (375/1081 postflop)
    UTG+1 was a bit tighter: {99-22,A7+,KT+,QT+,JT+, J9s,T9s,98s,87s,76s}(255/1081)

    Equilab gives my hand 47% equity to UTG's 27% and UTG+1's 26%.
Which makes me feel like it was a really straightforward call. I think more than ever this hand highlights the fact that I need to start learning a bit more about implied pot odds, because I feel that in this position the lack of certainty about the call came down to the fact that I suspected I was going to be bet into on one of the following streets.

    Spoiler:
    Turn: ($0.35) A (3 players)
UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero checks

    River: ($0.35) 10 (3 players)
UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero checks

    Total pot: $0.35 | Rake: $0.01

    Results below:
UTG had 9, 7 (high card, Ace).
    UTG+1 had J, Q (high card, Ace).
Hero had 6, 5 (one pair, fives).
    Outcome: Hero won $0.34

Flop call given villains sizing (pot odds) is definitely correct.

On the turn I'm tempted to bet and somewhat turn my hand into a bluff. Usually if nobody is betting the ace is because they have a hand like 8x or 99--KK or something. You might be able to bluff them off this hand, especially 3-way your bet looks strong.

I don't hate your line either of checking it down.

Since my last update i've doubled my bankroll (yay) to 200 big ones, and have been playing more MTT's and SnGs. The competition is a bit donkier and I enjoy the forced mistakes induced by progressive blinds.

Anyway, my recent favorite 'wat' hand:

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em Tournament, 30/60 Blinds (9 handed) - Full Tilt Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com/

    Button (t4,280)
    SB (t12,830)
    BB (t2,915)
    UTG (t1,460)
    Hero (UTG+1) (t5,485)
    MP1 (t9,015)
    MP2 (t3,000)
    MP3 (t2,370)
    CO (t1,550)

    Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Q, Q
1 fold, Hero raises to t300, 3 folds, CO calls t300, Button calls t300, 2 folds

    Flop: (t990) 6, A, 2 (3 players)
Hero checks, CO checks, Button bets t990, Hero folds, CO raises to t1,250 (All-In), Button calls t260

    Turn: (t3,490) 10 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    River: (t3,490) 3 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Total pot: t3,490

    Results below:
Button had 8, K (high card, Ace).
CO had 7, 7 (one pair, sevens).
    Outcome: CO won t3,490

    I love these guys

Weird, how often is it happening? It isn't intentional. Though if it is tilting you, perhaps you should take a bubble bath or something.
