Default CBat plays online poker in the US? ....what?

So after a brief discussion with Dranger and learning about my ignorance of online poker, I've done a little research and made a small deposit on Lock Poker. Very exciting stuff for me, as I do not enjoy the live grind due to the extensive amount of time it takes to play any decent amount of hands. I like to play live here and there, but am glad I can now get my fix online for the time being.

Now I obviously and rightfully so, I have trust issues with any form of online poker until something because legalized/regulated. So this is more to re-sharpen my game for what the future may entail. I also have more responsibilities now than I did before "Black Friday", being a landlord, having the best fiancé ever and working more than before, but I still plan to get in 5-10 hours a week.

I'll post updates on here. Glad to be back on here, missed you guys!

I plan to have very aggressive bankroll management guidelines for moving up. I'll be playing 6 max and plan to move up with 12 buy-ins and have a 3 buy-in stop loss. Ideal? I have no idea, but I'll give it a shot until I get to midstakes, where I'll probably become a little more conservative.

Still remember what yaawn meant, but not exactly what he said, something along the lines of you try to build your building fast in the beginning, but as it grows you have to protect it. Aka be aggressive early on and then scale it back and protect your bankroll as it gets larger.

good idea, especially since you have other streams of income to pay your bills, the thought of going busto early shouldn't stress ya, gl man.

I don't see any reason why someone with your skills shouldn't have an aggressive plan for moving up through the micros. Games are way to easy (esp 6max) and you shouldn't have a problem moving up. Just watch out for leveling yourself at the nanos if you haven't been down there for a while, this ain't 200nl.

Good to see you playing again, your old blog was an inspiration when I started playing. I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress, hopefully learn something from you along the way. GL man.

I heard that Lock Poker takes months to pay out a withdraw. Anyone know of any truth to this? Otherwise I heard it's a great site. I just like to have access to my money.

Thanks m, the games are very tight at 10NL, a lot of nitty regs, so I'm playing pretty LAG and throwing some $ away so far.

Glad to hear that it was an inspiration. It was definitely a fun ride and shows that some hard work can definitely pay off. Good luck to you too. Also, good tips, the play is pretty straight forward and there is basically no meta game involved so I have leveled myself a few times, when my opponents are making little to no adjustments as I am making some based on my own play.

I have heard the same thing. I see it all over the Lock Poker sub forum on 2+2. Unfortunately I do not have nearly enough $$ to worry about that. But fortunately, I have heard that you can trade on 2+2 marketplace for .80 on the dollar. While not ideal, it will allow you to get 80% of your money and then you can pay taxes on that 80%...Proud to be an American! ...

A small update, I've only played about 3,000 hands, I'm really only comfortable 4-5 tabling right now, and I've been having some trouble with the wireless card I bought for my desktop as it keeps connecting to router/connecting to Internet and is not reliable, so I've been using my fiancé's laptop, which isn't ideal. I'm about breakeven, and up like $20 in rakeback. It seems like they just randomly put some money in my account everynight, as I don't know where to track my rakeback or the %. But it is fun to log on and see an extra couple dollars in the account the next day. I'll post a larger update once I get to maybe 10,000 hands and where I can take a closer look at my stats.

I also think it would be beneficial for me to do some studying or at least watch a video or two as its been over 2 years since I've been at the micros and about a year and a half since I played online poker. I will admit that it does feel good to play again. Although my dedication to it has gone out the window, as I used to play 60-80 minutes everyday before work and then about 2 hours after work just about every single day. Maybe I will start doing a day or 2 a week in the morning to see how my body reacts, since I now get up at about 7:20 compared to when I used to get up at about 5:50.

So I did a clean install on the laptop, deleted everything by accident after thinking I had backed up Tiff's graduate work/pictures and my poker hands. Oops >_< I managed to restore some of her stuff, including 2,000 photos, but couldn't get the hands back. I figured no sweat, I'll just email Lock and get all the hands emailed to me.

    Thank you for your email.

I'm afraid that our system is not set up to allow us to send more than 100 hands at any one time and we are unable to retrieve larger amounts of hand histories. It is for this reason that all hands are stored to your own PC and are accessible through the Options menu.

If you no longer have access to your hand histories then we can send you the hand history of a particular tournament if you confirm the tournament ID / name and date.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

Oh how I miss the good old Pokerstars days. When they would send me 500,000 hands in a couple hours. Lock cannot even send ~5,000 hands.

Anyways, I am about even over my total 6k hands, possibly up about a buyin. This translates to being up a little over 3 buyins including rakeback. I would love to get more volume in, as we all know 6k hands is really nothing. I woke up a little early this morning and played about 45 minutes before work, which only results in about 250-300 hands as 4-5 tabling 6max is all I'm still comfortable with. I'm going to start playing like 2-3 days a week before work to get in some extra volume. And I'm going to start doing some studying as opposed to playing Madden in my free time, when I don't feel like playing poker.

Been getting to the gym only about 2 days a week. I don't have a good excuse for that because any of the reasons that I would say, really aren't standing in the way, I just try and say they do to make myself feel better. Gotta get to 3 days a week IMO.

On another note, been catching up with Homeland. Wow, what a show! It is fantastic, very twisted and suspenseful, the acting is phenomenal. But now I am about caught up...

With Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead being on hiatus, and now being caught up with Homeland, anyone have any other shows to recommend? I tried watching Boardwalk Empire and liked the concept, but didn't really enjoy the show.

    Good day all.

I've got some good news and some bad news. I'll give you the bad news first.

Bad news: I've been hit by a bit of a downswing on a very short sample size. Since the clean install I've played about 2,000 hands and am currently running 9.5 buyins under EV in those 2k hands. Unfortunately I have to be somewhat results oriented due to my 10 buy-in rule.

Good news: I do feel as though I've turned a corner since starting again and feel that I am playing much better than before. Also, despite being almost 10 buyins under EV, I am still about even since starting. So I still have 10 buyins for 10NL and plan to ride it out at 10NL unless I drop to a $50 bankroll.

Key to straightening out the variance is of course a larger sample size. I've been playing a lot of regs heads up while starting tables and feel that I have a very late advantage in those games.

Just made a post on my cell phone that didn't post and don't feel like reposting it all. Summed up, lost 5 buyins = 2/3rd my broll playing heads up 50NL on America's Card Room. Super standard, bad bankroll management. Back to 10NL. I've got like $120 on each Lock and America's Card Room. Trying to decide which site to put it on since Lock's cash out is suspect, but has low rake and allows HUDs. While ACR's cash out is good, but has high rake and doesn't allow HUDs.

On another note, I read an old Phil Galfond article and it got me thinking about my game, and how, well he's spot on about most players, unfortunately myself included. I was very comfortable on Pokerstars and in those games and I knew how to exploit the different types of players and I believe that I also ran very well during my move up. I think I was and am a decent player, but I also think that my comfort level and fish hunting had a lot to do with my success. I want to improve my game by being mindful of what I am doing and why I am doing it. So that will mean less tables and me working on why I am betting/checking/folding. It seems very basic, but it is the key to success in this game and l need to do a better job at it.

Here is a little bit of the rake uproar that is starting to formulate about ACR:

Official Americas Cardroom Help Desk - Page 116 - Internet Poker - Online Poker Forum

You have to scroll up a tiny bit to see my first post. Hopefully something is changed because apparently their cash out times are pretty fast. But that's just ridiculous.
  15. #15
That's ridiculous. I had a look around to try and work out why it's so high and I found this:

On Stakes $1.00/$2.00 and lower the Jackpot Fee is $0.25; $0.17 to feed The Beast, $0.13 is then contributed towards the Cash Race and $0.04 is contributed to the Tournament Race. The additional $0.08 are taken to feed the Bad Beat Jackpot.
So there's a 25 cent rake every hand. I guess they thought this would be an awesome promo with "The Beast" (progressive rake race) getting a massive prize pool without thinking about how massive the rake would get.

Looks like the Beast is an ongoing promo. Is there much traffic on ACR apart from on the Jackpot tables?
  16. #16
Why should cash players contribute towards the tournament race?
  17. #17
    No idea
  18. #18
Just FWIW CBat I've sent an email to the ACR Rep asking them to re-consider the promotion. I'll let you know if there's any positive reply although I'm doubtful

As am I. Worth a shot though.

Update coming in the near future. Finally got some tenants for the downstairs apartment. $$$$$$$

Good luck on the grind CBAT!

Just a general question, how do you find Lock? How's the volume/quality of games for higher games like 200nl +?

I agree with your plan of aggressive moving up earlier on and then protecting it later. Hope it goes well!

Lock kind of sucks. It server has been known to crash. And I get software errors (or something like that) at times when I'm playing that really hinders my ability to multi-table. Not to mention the cash out, I've heard is a bit of a nightmare. Also I am not sure what the volume is at 200+. Unfortunately I'm stuck at breakeven poker at 10NL currently haha. Running 17 buyins under EV over about 6k hands, but I'm break even after rakeback, so that's good. Definitely am encouraged by my nonshowdown line as that is trending up, while my showdown winning, I think is just short term variance, as I'm winning about 44% of the time at showdown. I'll post some stats tonight or tomorrow.

Also Pascal, looks like ACR is trying to entice micro grinders now: $5k Micro Race | Americas Cardroom

I might give it a small shot next week for a few days and see how I rank on the leader board and decide if I want to continue.
  22. #22
Ah, saw that promo on Black Chip Poker and ignored it - forgot they're on the same network now.

Do you have an ACR account already? FDB clears at 10% rakeback apparently (from here, 55RPs per dollar with 5.5RPs per $1 rake paid) which isn't great but better than a kick in the teeth I guess.
  23. #23
Got an email back from ACR saying that the player who has won the Beast the last 3 times was a low stakes player. Will try taking a different tack when I reply
  24. #24
Good luck CBAT, thanks for the update. Sounds like something I might as well avoid, since I can play on other sites. Was just curious if 200nl+ might be fish central!

Here is what the mid-high stakes look like at 9pm est. Haven't spectated the games at all, so not sure how soft.

    Sweet thanks!

Oh man it's weird seeing waitlists when I'm used to betfair now which has no waitlists. That's not bad volume though, interesting!

    Non-poker update:

The rental apartment is just about move in ready. I just have to put the refrigerator back together, put the front of the counter top on, hook the sink back up and put some silicone around it to prevent any water seeping underneath the counter top. I'm very pleased with how it turned out and the tenants that we got. They should be moving in, in about 2 weeks and I will finally be cash flow positive again after about 3 months of being negative with mortgage payments and supply costs for upgrading the kitchen/bathroom etc.

Fitness: I've been getting myself back into the gym 3-4 times a week and I am pretty addicted again. The problem I've always had is I get myself to about 175 and 8% bodyfat and then I end up getting hurt. It has happened 3 times in my life, so now I am doing more stretching and working on stabilizer muscles and actually attended hot yoga with Mrs. CBat last weekend. It was a "hot iron core yoga" with weights and wow, those chicks are tough! I was very impressed by the class and plan to do it every other week to give my body a rest from the pounding of heavy weights and help loosen up tight muscles.

Anyways, time to hit the gym, then off to do some rollerskating at my nephews birthday party haha. Take care all!

That's great news. At least you got paid! It beats .75 on the $. Was there a withdrawal fee?
  31. #31
Lol never received another reply from ACR CBAT
  32. #32
Actually there wasn't. I thought it was supposta be like 10$ fee or something but nope. I was going to put that money onto Merge but they're doing away with rabeback so nvm. WPN traffic still seems kinda low. Ugh poker in america sux.

So, I've become a rakeback pro at 10NL. Ran like dogsh*t. I'm missing a couple thousand hands when I first started playing where I played terrible and ran good (maybe 4 buy-ins over EV for B/E poker). I reinstalled Windows and forgot to back up the hands (rookie mistake). I definitely was rusty and was playing too many hands. I settled down, did a little reading and over the last 11k hands I ran:

28.8/24.4/9.9/47.1 (VPIP,PFR,3B,W$SD%) with an average of 5.2 players

I feel much better about the way I'm playing now. I've also been humbled by the runbad and re-taught how much sample size does matter. I'm currently up to 10+ buyins for the next level and will move up with a tight 4 buy-in stop loss. Variance is scary in the beginning of a move up on such a tight bankroll, but I'm not all that worried, as I'm just trying to move up as fast as possible and won't be too disappointed if I do have to move back down. I may increase my buy-in restrictions for move ups after this level, we'll see. To be determined.

Enough about online poker, I've been hitting the gym lately and just loving it. Started attending a local crossfit gym once a week and WOW, if you want to test your endurance and what kind of shape you are in, that is the place! I usually go to the gym 3 times a week and then go to crossfit once a week, although my quads have been sore for a full week from my last crossfit workout and I've really noticed the results. I've put on 5lbs in the last 2 months and have also noticed that I've leaned out. I'm definitely eating more as I'm burning more calories, but I have done a good job at keeping it clean. Having healthy snacks and prepping food ahead of the week so you can grab leftovers or healthy snacks is a HUGE plus. If you aren't prepared, fast food is just too damn easy!

    Until next time FTR...
