    Hands : 4015/30,000
    +4045$

I'm not playing very well. I'm still not used to 5max and the overall aggressiveness involved. I think I'm used to run over people and double/triple barrel so much, but its not working here, people will call you down with ANY pair. Time to adjust. I should probably play 18/16 or something, I would totally destroy the games just by having tighter ranges in 3bet/4bet pots. Its very hard for me to tighten up though, it would involve folding suited hands and stuff (gah!) . I should probably drop the tables to <8 to help focus.

Berate me on this one : (Although I feel its pretty close )

    1) $2/$4 No Limit Holdem
    5 players
    Converted at weaktight.com

    Stacks:
    CO ($780.20)
    BTN ($942.20)
    Hero (SB) ($398.50)
    BB ($400.00)

    Pre-flop: ($6, 5 players) Hero is SB
CO raises to $14, BTN calls $14, los calls $14, Hero calls $12, BB raises to $84, CO folds, BTN calls $70, los calls $70, Hero raises to $398.50, BB calls $314.50, BTN folds, los folds

    Flop: ($979, 2 players)

    Turn: ($979, 2 players)

    River: ($979, 2 players)

    [Results Hidden]

    And this one:

    2) No history whatsoever vs villain. He seems a little more on the passive side but no symptoms of "broken fold button", which is a very contagious disease on this site.

    $2/$4 No Limit Holdem
    5 players

    Stacks:
    UTG ($357.00)
    CO ($420.00)
    BTN ($1066.90)
    Hero (SB) ($378.00)
    BB ($418.00)

    Pre-flop: ($6, 5 players) Hero is SB
1 fold, CO raises to $13, 1 fold, Hero calls $11, 1 fold

    Flop: ($30, 2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $20, Hero calls $20

    Turn: ($70, 2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $35, Hero raises to $105, CO calls $70

    River: ($280, 2 players)
Hero bets $240, CO calls $240

    Update..

    Hands: 9,666/30,000
    +6500$

Played some disgusting sessions, where I would start up 5 buyins then get coolered and tilt like 1-2 buyins at the end of the session, and finally end down (obv). I then decided to play 19/16 12 tabling and see how it goes, and what a relief. It feels so good to actually have premium hands and not always air all the time

20k more hands in 8 days seems do-able...

    30k hands at 2/4 operation:

    14,000/30,000 hands
    ~+$12k

Just had a ridiculous +11 buyins session in 1k hands and 60 minutes.. think i stacked like 7 ppl in 5min at some point.. it felt good to run like the sun once again.. I'm playing a lot saner than before, and just straight up never bluffing the non-believers and its paying off.

I'm not putting enough hands in, the weather is incredible right now in Montreal which makes it very hard/not worthwhile to grind. Hopefully I can manage like 5k hands/day next week but its not very likely.. happiness EV ftw..

Hey, nice to see you adjusting and winning again. Pretty impressive that you can switch up well like this.
Just dipping my toes back in.

Yeah it kinda seems like spew, but we're repping a super strong range and we're about 30% against a calling range, assuming we get only one caller.

Im too lazy to run the EV of this, but i think its close to 0ev maybe even slightly positive and good for meta

edit: actually its pretty bad.. we do have 30% against a calling range, but we def do NOT rep a strong range lol

Ongame was going well, but they had changed softwares a few weeks ago, and that totally turned me off. I'll wait till they fix it before I return.

Meanwhile, I've switched to Stars mostly for 3/6-10/20 and this is my July up to now, running goood!

    Suppp people,

After starting the month on an absolutely sick heater on stars, things have settled down and I even ended the month on a 20k downswing (not even 20BI though so not too bad). I feel like the regs are adjusting to me infinitely better than on past sites. They are also somewhat nittier on average which is annoying to deal with for me. These aren't really valid excuses, but I just don;t think 5ptbb is achievable for me at 5/10 PS, and having losing sesssions fkin tilt me, I'm just not used to them and it the result of that is bad play usually due to a lack of confidence. /whine

Sooo, idk what to do. I'll prolly just have to settle for a smaller winrate and work on my game a tonnnnnn. This is a fun challenge and I'll get to it right after i come back from vacation on the 19th.

I was looking at my old DB to cheer me up, these r all the hands on crypto from July 08 to April 09. About half is in pounds, and mostly 2/5. I fkin miss crypto. Hopefully I havn't posted this before lol.

the thing i'm most jealous about by far is the redline. that's just sick. so few players are good enough to have a breakeven redline.

Tough to say. Having played FTP/Party/Stars/Ongame recently I feel like stars and ongame are the best sites. Stars is prolly the best of them all if u combine RSA security token/fishyness/software/customer support.

Everyone has different priorities though so it depends.

red line is def overvalued. Butttt, people with redlines going straight down are definitly doing something wrong, or could be doing stuff a lot better, whichever way u wanna put it.

You can tell a lot about someones game just by seeing their red line.

Dark green line is what matters in the end. All this ptbb dick waving contest and redline bigger than urs contest is all fluff.

You can tell a lot about someones game just by seeing their red line.
So if I told you that I have about 120K hands lifetime (still a noob obv), and for the first 60K my redline was breakeven, but for the last 60K it has gone steadily downhill to the tune of well over 30BI, what would that tell you about my game?

I can also tell you that the downward trajectory started right about the time I moved up from 25NL to 50NL, and 50NL has not been a happy experience for me so far.

(Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your op, but I'm really interested in this.)

    EDIT: happy b'day!

Tony- I was gonna write a long post, but there are so many things that I'm not sure what applies to you specifically.

But in general ppl with huge red lines compared to their blue lines tend to be spewy and stationny (not folding before showdown can't affect your red line).

And ppl with red lines going 45degrees in the negative are probably weak and do dumb stuff like putting 1/3 of their stack in then folding too much. Or chasing a lot then folding when missing. Or just general leaks in 3bet/4bet pots..

There can be many factors, and I already said the red line is overvalued so why are we talking about it ?:P

I have mentioned before that the redline is a result of your play, You can't change your play just to effect the redline. It's very easy to make the redline even or run up, but if it's not a natural part of your play you will spew a ton of chips

    Interesting.

I never took any notice of my red line, so maybe I've been undervaluing it??

Anyway, I'm not going to read too much into it, but the "dumb stuff" you mentioned are all things I tend to lapse into, especially when I'm tired, tilting or otherwise off my A-game. Sometimes I find myself folding the river after missing a draw with a lot of my chips in the middle, and that usually means its time to go and do something else for a while.

I also think I've loosened up preflop over time, quicker than my postflop skills have developed to handle it, which leaves me in too many bad spots on later streets. Time to stop opening AJo UTG ...

Thanks man. Oh, and happy b'day!!

Ok where to start. 2010 has been one of the tough years for me, poker wise and life wise. I won't bore you with all the details of my personal life, but cliff notes will be something like this:

1-prepare for/go to court in january(won't go into details but no I didn't kill anyone)
2-grandma breaks her hand b/c of parkinson issues(going to hospital daily cuz i love my gramma)
3-Landlord troubles all yr, he accuses me of blowing up his car (lol?). Was not fun living in a hostile environment all year.
4-fk up my knee playing hockey
5-grandma breaks her hip (hospital again)
6-Move into new condo, standard delays and other b.s. (still a brag)
7-have ACL reconstructions surgery on my knee in november
8-then basically physiotherapy and learning to walk again in december

Poker wise it was hard to put in hands given all this, but when I did I managed to run >100 BI under EV. Still had an okay year, made more than I would at a "normal job" but way below my expectations. Then again, even if I ran at EV, I would be below my expectations, meaning I have to take a serious look at my game because I'm falling behind as the games get tougher!

+30k on another site where EV calc is useless.

Don't get me wrong, life is def still awesome, and these bumps are nothing big in the grand scheme of things, thank god my friends and family are still healthy, which is def the #1 most important thing. /emo

I need to work on my game and be accountable for my plays, and the best way to do this is to post every terribly played hand, or godlike soul pwnage, in this blog.

New operation: I will play 100k hands at 5/10 with little or no table selection. This will be high variance, as I'm not even sure if I'm a winner at those stakes w/out table selecting, but hopefully I learn something by the end of it and become a better player. My goal is 3ptbb, but realistically even if I break even and learn something along the way it's still a success. VAMOOO!

    GOGOGOGOGO Alexos, make Montreal proud.

Torn ACL sounds fucking horribad. Do you play in a no-contact league (i.e. no body checking)? A buddy of mine had a sprained (torn?) ACL and now just wears a knee brace. No plans to repair the ligament, but he can get around fine, and he still plays.

    GL in the recovery btw.

Yep non-contact league. I didn't even injure it in my league games, was just playing a friendly game, and sorta twisted my knee in a weird way while on a breakaway. fail lol.

Maybe your friend didn't tear it completely. Some people are okay just with a brace, but if the knee is unstable it can create other long-term problems like knee arthritis, so I just decided to go with the operation.

    And thanks.

Congrats on ACL surgery! I had mine last Christmas (09) and have made a full recovery. Don't get frustrated, just keep working at it and doing your exercises. I don't think you ever get full feeling back on the outside of the knee (assuming they took part of your patellar tendon). After 5-7 months I could play sports with poor mobility, but after about 9-10 months I felt about good as new!

glad to see you made a full recovery! Nah I actually did the hamstring tendon, I have no knee discomfort, just the (std?) numbness below my knee in the tibia area. My knee sometimes cracks, but hopefully this is just my patella not being perfectly aligned, and not some meniscus damage.

Do you wear a brace when playing sports?

Update: Pretty bad start, 800 hands, down 6k. I definitely butchered some hands.

    1) Not many reads other than he's not a reg.Timing was really quick on turn and river, I just didn't think he had any hand.

Nope, no brace. Only time I actually wore a brace on my knee was for the first 2 weeks or so after surgery. Ever since I've been brace free. It's better than way in my opinion so you don't rely on it as a crutch and can actually make a full recovery. I honestly don't play sports like I used to anymore, since I've recently graduated from college, but I do lift and run hills. Thinking about getting back into basketball in the coming months since its so damn cold and weights get boring (and I'd like to dunk again).

Good luck to you, and the hard work definitely pays off!

874 hands, -480$. Played great today, only 6 tabling. Made one bad call that I sorta regret, but have to say I went with my reads today and tried to maximize value each and every hand instead of autopiloting a few

    1) Villain cold 4bets in steal spots super often, he's also seen me 3b BTN a few times now because he's rather loose, so I figured I have a decent hand to shove with.

    BTN lost $30

    2) No particular reads other that he's loose and on the passive side. I'd definitely expect people to lead 5x, FDs, QK on turn. And I can't have QK or flush almost ever since I didn't cbet flop. I get owned a lot in spots like these because villains aren't thinking about my range and aren't turning hands into bluffs here, but I expect ppl to play better at 5/10 than 2/4.

3)Same villain as the 44 hand. He'd 4b AQ/AK pre, most likely bet TJ, diamonds on turn. Seems like a perfect spot to get him off his most likely holdings AT/AJ. I only rep 55, combo draws that were going to c/r turn, and AQ, but it's okay to focus more on his range until he proves otherwise.

    4) My questionnable call. Villain is rather loose and 3bets 17% from SB, but rather passive postflop. A lot of draws missed and you can think it's probably exploitable to always fold Kx here (We'd raise alot of good draws on flop, so Kx makes up most of our range), but vs him it's probably okay to muck on river. Not too happy about this.

    5) Aggro reg villain. New sn so don't know much about his game. I'd say his range is pretty strong, 66,99,TT,JJ,KJs,KQ,KTs. I thought this was okay but looking at this range I don't even think sets fold on river, but I'd expect KT KJ JJ TT to fold. It has to work about 40% of the time i think so it can't be that bad though if we start counting combos, plus the fact we can discount some sets. Guess he had KXdd or TJdd?

1k hands, up 3.6k. Again playing very well, regardless of results. I know I'm playing well because I'm:

    1) Thinking about ranges every hand
    2) Trying to apply whatever I studied about my opponents, every hand
    3) Going with my reads every hand
    4) Taking 5-10 seconds to think things through before making a decision

It's so damn easy to fall into autopiloting, and I feel like even if I felt I was playing my A-game in the past, I just wasn't, because A-game can have many definitions. I finally refined my definition of what A-game should be, and eventually it will show up in my results.

I really don't like that 99 hand. I don't think its true that people will mostly bet JT/diamonds etc on turn. Lots of ppl will try a delayed steal, and bet river when checked to again.

Especially when a huge portion of our made hands will check this turn, most ppl will try to be balanced by checking draws too. I mean, how much of our range is really betting this turn?

Meh about the AJ on K69. But I do think that if you fire turn you gotta fire river. Most of his range will always call down to the river and re-eval.
