I think you may be over-thinking yourself slightly in terms of planning, but your research will stand you in good stead.

However, I will bet you a round $5 that within 9 months you will have played cash games as your main game for at least a week

perhaps you have to play a bit more passive.

    Default Update

I just wanted to post my progress for the first couple of days. I alsp had to readjust my bankroll a bit as I had $25 more in Pokerstars than I originally thought.

Also, my laptop died on Friday so I had to go buy a new one and didn't get to play.

Thursday I did seven single table sitngos on Bodog. I didn't play my best but did okay. My finishes were:
    2/10, 6/10, 2/10, 5/10, 5/10, 6/10, 3/10
I also did a $1.10 MTT Thursday and finished 90/168.
    Net gain: $1.50

This morning I did a set of three 180 man sit and goes on Pokerstars. I played really well in two of them. My results were:
22/180 (KK ran into AA), 13/180, and 12/180.
    Net gain: $4.08

Interestingly, I went deepest in the SNG I didn't get any cards in, mostly through decent M play. The middle SNG was frustrating because I was in 4th place with 14 people left, then had two bad beats in a row to go out 13th. The first time I had AKo vs A4. Two aces come on the flop and he catches a 4 on the turn. the second time I had K6 in the BB, I checked to see a flop and it came 6 K J. I didn't want to get outdrawn so I pushed, the big stack I was against calls and shows AJ. I am really happy about my luck and then quickly an A comes on the turn and just like that, I'm out. It's a good thing bad beats don't bother me anymore.

Total gain so far(3 days): $5.58
    Bankroll: $182.04

I am pretty happy to have some growth so far as I only played average and had quiet a few bad beats at the wrong times.

    Default 180 person sng win!

I have good news to post today. I won a $4 180 man sng on Pokerstars just a bit ago. $216! This jumpstarts my bankroll quiet a bit.

    Current Bankroll:
    Bodog: $54.76
    Pokerstars: $321.62
    Total bankroll: $376.38

    Bankroll increase since beginning=$197.22

So with that sng win I have now qualified for stage two which will be as follows:
    Stage 2
SnG= $4 beginner sit and gos
    MTT= $1 1:30PM MTT
    Bankroll Goal= $200

    Pokerstars
    SnG= $4 180 SnGs
    Qualifier= $2 36 Sunday Hundred Grand (1 per day)
    MTT= $3 MTT 12:00PM
    Bankroll Goal= $300
Total bankroll goal for stage 2= $500

I thought about modifying the Bodog schedule but decided to keep it the same for now. If I run bad for a few sets I will lower back down to the $2 sngs.

Overall it was a good day today.

    Current Bankroll:
    Bodog: $51.16
    Pokerstars: $311.99
    Total bankroll: $363.15

    4 day bankroll increase=$183.99

    Highlights of today:
-Qualified for the Sunday hundred grand on my second try, thus spending 4.40 for the 11.00 buy-in.
-Finished 74/1678 in the $3.30 Pokerstars MTT for $9.07.
    -Up $10.70 for the day

    Lowlights of the day:
-Lost $3.60 in a few sets of SnGs on Bodog, which is especially bad for what I do usually

It was a day of bad beats. My opponents seemed to always catch that miracle card on the river. Good news is, I finished the day $11 up.

    Current Bankroll:
    Bodog: $78.96
    Pokerstars: $295.49
    Total bankroll: $374.45

    5 day bankroll increase=$198.09

    Highlights of today:
-Up in money for the day

    Lowlights of the day:
-No 1st places in my one table sit and gos. I just can't seem to win one. I've had multiple chances to put someone out but they catch that miracle card.
-Bubbled in yet another MTT. Was all in with AQ vs A9 and he catches a straight on the river. Would of been 5th out of 34, instead, I was el outto.

where do you find the easier competition is on? bodog or pokerstars? from playing on bodog i think it seems pretty fishy and the overlay on guarantees is huge. if you build your br on bodog you should try some of these out

Both sites are fishy but its hit and miss. Some MTTs and SnGs I get in are a gold mine, others are tighter than a rubber duck's butt. There really i no rhyme or reason to it.. I find tight tables at a $2 tourney and then turn around and its looser than a goose at the $16 level.

I like the MTTs on Bodog for the reason you mentioned. I am going to split my time on each site 50/50 and see what happens.

    Thanks for the heads up.

What the heck is going on here!? 2nd straight day of bad beat after bad beat. I won 12 out of 64 showdowns where I entered as the favorite, many of them dominating (yes I kept track today after yesterdays debacle). I won't even go into details because I don't like to whine, but it was rather comical. All of my showdown wins seem to have come in the last 180 SnG I played today where I placed 3rd. I would have been down for the day big time if I didn't score in my last attempt.

    Current Bankroll:
    Bodog: $78.96
    Pokerstars: $313.17
    Total bankroll: $392.13

    6 day bankroll increase=$215.77

    Highlights of today:
-Up in money for the day (miracle)
    -3rd place in a 180 man SnG
-I am making the money in 46% of the SNGs I play overall and 17% of the 180 person SNGs.

    Lowlights of the day:
-Bubbled in four 180s due to bad beats.

I will eventually start posting progress more infrequently. Currently, with my bankroll being so small, even modest gains make an impact...thus the daily posts.

Another oddball day. Did well on Bodog, only finished out of the money in two SnGs in six tries. I had two 2nds and a 3rd. Its odd, but I haven't won one of those in a long time. Today I had AA on the first hand in heads up.. I raise 3 times the BB, he calls, flop comes Q, K, 6 rainbow. I push, he has pocket kings... Sums up my week.

On Pokerstars I bubbled 3 out of 4 of my 180s. The last one hurt the most.. I was ranked top 10 going, picked up top two pair on the flop.. pushed.. he calls with K3 on a flush draw and catches it on the river. And of course, he just had me covered. My thoughts were that I could slowplay my two pair, but I was just happy to win the fairly large pot that was in there. Why would he call on a draw on the bubble?? Donkeyed yet again.

    Current Bankroll:
    Bodog: $88.56
    Pokerstars: $295.57
    Total bankroll: $384.13

    6 day bankroll increase=$207.77

    Highlights of today:
-Making the money in 4 out of 6 Bodog SnGs

    Lowlights of the day:
    -Bubbled in three 180s.
-Lost money on my bankroll ($8 today)

I am changing how I update slightly, mainly because its easier for me to post swiftly.

    SnG report
Today I did three Bodog SnGs. I busted out early in two and won the other to break even.
    Additionally, I did four 180 person Pokerstars SnGs. I finished 63rd, 31st, 18th, and 6th for a net gain of $27.04.

    MTT report
Yesterday I took a stab at the "Play Daniel Negreanu" freeroll on Pokerstars and got 101/10,000 (I had to leave work so I sat out with 250 left or I coulda went deep).. so I guess I get to go try the 7,500 person freeroll next Saturday (which I likely can't play because I will be out of town)
Today I did the Sunday Hundred Grand on Pokerstars and placed 1,691/17,513. My queens lost to a set of jacks. I am still pretty happy to have made the money in that donkfest.

    Starting Bankroll: $176.36
    Current Bankroll:
    Bodog: $94.16
    Pokerstars: $339.87
    Total: $434.03

    8 day bankroll increase=$257.67

    Recent Highlights:
-Making the money in the Sunday Hundred Grand.
-Qualifying for the "Play Negreanu" freeroll final.

    Recent Lowlights:
-Tilting today briefly in my SnGs (for like 10 minutes) after a couple bad beats.

Overall I am happy with my play the past week. I think I am way ahead of schedule towards meeting my goals. Only $66 to stage three!

Is anyone trying the PCA steps on Pokerstars? The buy-in for step 1 is $7.50. What should I have as far as a bankroll to give this a stab? One of my strengths is single table SnGs, so I am considering one attempt.

    Thanks!

    Hi again everyone.

I haven't posted lately due to the hectic holiday.

Things are going fairly well still. I haven't been able to play very much. My current bankroll is:

    Bodog: $73.46
    Pokerstars: $402.32
    Total Bankroll: 475.78

Only $25 more to go until Level 3! If not for my recent poor play on Bodog, I'd already be there.
