    Default Suggestions for poker book?

Just finished Harrington on Cash Games, Part I. I'm wanting to solidify my TAG game before reading the next part on LAG Play.

While I digest that, I'm looking for a really good book on poker psychology. Especially on how winning poker players think, both at the table and off.

Any serious suggestions would be appreciated.

Mike Caro's Book of Tells is a good one. The subtitle is "the psychology and body language of poker."

Phil Gordons - Little Gold Book, is a pretty recent , decent read. Goes into combinatorics, HUDs, range v. range, 3b'ing vs. different opp's, It was the book that got me back into playing back in April.

Its a good book , but i think honestly you will find all of it and more here on FTR.

None of these books posted would make top five, probably not top ten.

Ed miller, Baluga. Fees, Improva, Slowhabit, sklansky, Tommy Angelo have all wrote better books

Little Green Book is the only poker book I've ever read, when I knew nothing about poker - from what I remember, it's a good intro

I'd love to hear which titles you think are worth reading, jyms.

My list of poker books to read:

The Biggest Game in Town -Al Alvarez

The Book of Tells -Mike Caro

Harrington on Cash Games, Volume I -Dan Harrington
Harrington on Cash Games, Volume II -Dan Harrington

The Psychology of Poker -Alan Schoonamaker

    Theory of Poker -David Sklansky
Hold 'em for the Advanced Player -David Sklansky

    What I've read:

Super System -Doyle Brunson, et al

Ace on the River -Barry Greenstein
(this one's more of an autobiography than a poker book)

I would scratch Theory of Poker off that list MMM, you've already outgrown it.

Theory of Poker is probably the single most important book that you could read. The problem that most people have is that they aren't prepared to go into as much depth as the book would require you to if you want to actually get a lot out of it.

Elements of Poker offers some good models for performance psychology as regards poker.

+1 to Sklansky's theory of poker. Hard to read but worth the effort. It will get the basic math straightened out before going on to more advanced stuff like Easy game and Let there be range.

No flattery intended, but include all Spoon's math posts in your reading (links in the stickies). Actually, probably read those before theory of poker. It will get you in the right frame of mind to attack the book.

You read one poker book... and you think it's among the best?

(This thought process is why most Christians make no sense to me.)

EDIT: Easy Game I and Easy Game II are easy to download and after only 1 chapter, I can tell they'll be good reads.

Theory of Poker offers a lot more than just basic math and basic ideas. It's a very in-depth book, but it's hard to get that depth in just one or two readings of it.

psychology is a load of crap, don't waste ur time on that. Better read some non-poker book, Harrington is enough.

you can try with "The Theory of Poker: A Professional Poker Player Teaches You How To Think Like One" by David Sklansky or "Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big With Expert Play" also by David Sklansky. If you are advance player there is "Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players (Advance Player)" by David Sklansky.

I swear, does anyone read previous posts before answering or is it that they can't get qualified if they see it's already been answered.

Another one that focuses more on the emotional / mental side of the game is called The Poker Mindset. Don't remember the authors offhand, but there are two of them.

I'm currently re-reading Theory of Poker thanks to this thread and yeah, it will pay for itself no matter who reads it.

Weird, saw The Black Swan book mentioned for the first time a couple of days ago somewhere (maybe on the forum, would make sense) and thought it looked cool. Had never heard of it before. Will check it out.

Thanks to Spoon for recommending Theory of Poker. I'm only 2/3 through the first reading, but it's making a BIG difference in the quality of my play. This is one that I'll have to break down into sections and exercises to fully digest. So much good on semi-bluffing, position, aggressive moves, thinking about equity bet by bet, bluffing frequency, etc...

This is completely different from many of the semi-vanity books out there.

Can anybody suggest some poker books exclusive to NLHE? I tried reading Sklansky's Theory of Poker but he refers to a lot of other poker games and I can't relate to it as I only play NLHE.

NLHE:TaP is like a holdem specific ToP so always a good suggestion.

Harrington on cash games is highly regarded, although some of his suggestions (like randomising play) are more applicable to live than online

6max players should read Ryan Fees' 6max NL PDF, I don't know if that's what you're referring to jyms. Link:
