    Default Rungood

Having a conversation in irc w/Sah

[18:32] <Savy> really struggling to get in time today
[18:32] <Savy> had about 3 sessions and only done 20mins
[18:32] <Savy> in each of them
    [19:04] <sah_24> wat went wrong
    [19:04] <sah_24> tilting ?
    [19:07] <Savy> nah
[19:07] <Savy> just not feeling it
[19:10] <Savy> has gone stupidly well up 5BI in like 1.5k hands
    [19:10] <sah_24> damn
[19:10] <sah_24> id wanna be into it
    [19:10] <sah_24> lol
[19:10] <Savy> well run good doesn't matter tbh if i play more then no more likely I'd win quicker than usual
[19:11] <sah_24> i dont know if i agree wit that
[19:11] <sah_24> poker is very spurty
[19:12] <Savy> well there's nothing to disagree with lol
[19:12] <Savy> that's just the way it is
    [19:12] <sah_24> lol
[19:12] <sah_24> over infinite time sure
[19:12] <Savy> no even over every single decision
    [19:12] <sah_24> but . . .

My point is as long as you are playing as well as you can against a similar play pool to usual your winrate will be the same in EV (not all in EV) regardless of whether you are running hot/cold whatever.

Sah seems to think by playing more I'd be taking advantage of my run good and as a result would earn more.

    Who is right?

    Spoiler:

[19:13] <sah_24> dude ive been playing alot longer than u
[19:14] <sah_24> and made way more money than u
    [19:14] <sah_24> so lol
[19:14] <sah_24> you keep giving advice and banging 5nl
    [19:14] <sah_24> lol
[19:14] <sah_24> bc you speak like your so great
[19:14] <sah_24> yet cant get out the micros lol

    Tis true

I think you play better when you're running good. Most people generally think more clearly, force the issue less and overall get more respect from other players when you've shown good hands, or at least get into their heads.

This is why for a lot of ppl it's pretty bad that they often grind for hours and hours chasing losses when they are down, but are quick to stop loss when they are up. It really should be the opposite.

What Griffey said, plus a bunch more.
it all depends on what you mean by rungood, and the reasons for this rungood.

e.g. here are a few things that may apply; if any of them apply then you can see for yourself that continuing to play is a good thing right?

    a) are you playing better than normal (i.e. are you reading gameflow better/considering options well/making nearer to optimal decisions/etc)?
    b) are the games better than normal?
    c) is that reg who fucks with you all the time and has your number mia? or at least are there fewer difficult regs at your tables?
    d) good fish ratios?
    e) have you got a complete set of good seats at good tables?
    f) are you relaxed and in a good state of mind?
    g) is your fold button well and truly functional?
    h) did you sacrifice a goat within the last 24hrs?

Nah sounds like I was probably playing nowhere near my A-Game and people just had good card distribution and was lucky people felt like donating.

Also confidence is clearly important in poker but its' a fine line between confident and over confident.

If I flip a coin and guess correctly four times in a row, I'm running good. Keep flipping that coin yo.

I agree with sah to a degree though, but it's purely a psychological thing. When I rungood, I playgood too, play with more confidence. But that might be different for other people. Maybe when rungood, some people get a little too ballsy, start thinking they can luckbox every pot. So maybe sometimes rungood isn't so good for others.

idk. If you're "not feeling it", then taking a break is totally the right thing to do.

As many have pointed out, sah is right, because he takes a broad, realistic view of poker. He takes into account that there are unperceived factors to your winrate, like your state of mind, opponents state of mind, general distractions by barking dogs and ringing phones causing misclicks. You can not predict these factors, but they surely have a huge impact on your winrate in the short term.

Savy is right because his reason for not playing is to ignore the short term winrate (good or bad) and focus on his own psychology in the moment.

I have heard advice from pros that both of these are vitally important factors of poker to understand.

Surely, what's right is to find a balance where you don't force yourself to play if you are unhappy doing it, but you don't pass up on opportunities to pad your net income, either.

Speaking as a mostly 'tarded monkey:
They (Sah and Savy) are both a bit 'tarded for not seeing this.

take shots at higher stakes if you run really hot to start the day

even if you arent 'properly' rolled

    seriously
