    Default Recreational/competitive players, biggest misconceptions

Hey guys and gals. I am working on something concerning common misconceptions. Topics that decent players misunderstand about poker strategy. Here are a few of the most common one's that I run into the most. Would you have any to add? Keep in mind I am looking at misconceptions you see from rec. players that do not study the game very seriously...

    1) My hand is probably best so it cannot be bad to bet/raise/3bet shove...

IMO these players need to be introduced to the concept of "isolating the top of Villain's range" and also need to understand the "way ahead way behind" problem. I also think a lot of these players need to understand that betting is about

    a) getting worse to call
    b) getting better to fold
    c) picking up dead money

There are not many other compelling reasons to bet...

    2) They overvalue "survival" vs and undervalue "chipping up" in MTT"s

I think the classic "would you take a coin toss for your stack early in the MTT" debate is right in the midst of this issue. The problem is, a lot of casual players take this too far and pass up good edges because "they don't want to bust out". I took a deeper look at ICM would help a lot of these players also...

    3) Donkeys (Loose-Passive) are impossible to beat... I need to get my raises respected!!!

These guys are all over the place, the insanity has to stop... So you need a decent hand to win against LP's... You will get so much value out of your good hands.... I think these players need to learn that winning poker is not about the amount of pots you win, but the amount of money you win...

I have a few more, but not sure if they "make the cut" of being on the top of my list.

Anyone think I am overlooking any obvious one's? Also, why do you think most of these misconceptions exist? Is it because of players using TV poker as a teacher? Is it because of all the awful poker strategy that plagues the Internets? Is it because poker players tend to stick to ideas/concepts that are intuitive and do not have an open mind?

    Any thoughts?

One of the issues is a player can't fathom variance. I fall victim to this, because when I lose 5 BI, I thinking im running bad, but that is so so standard. Experience is really the only for me to over come some of the above, others will just never learn.
