play 100k hands this year. its a bit low for what i might be able to do, but i figure its a decent goal, and will give me room to expand

*might be difficult for January as I have a lot on and haven't even played a hand yet.

ok, lacking knowledge about how much time i will be able to allocate to grinding this year due to work and such, i'm going to say my resolution is to study poker and spend time trying to improve my game at least as much, if not more, than i play it. that doesn't include live poker because i normally play for at least 6 hours per live session.

I'm not a fan of resolutions. If I must make one it's to continue to troll the bc while hopefully learning something from it and enlightening others with my limited knowledge every once in a while.

doesn't necessarily have to be a resolution of some sort.

just make a goal.

[ ] grind my way to $1k and beyond

Ok, my goal will be to at least be taking shots at 100nl by the end of the year.

^ you better have a lot of time at your disposal for grinding if you don't want variance to have the final say in whether or not you reach that one.

1. Get to play 100NL (????... got raped at 25NL so this is going to be a lot of work)
2. Do a database review every 10k hands or so.
3. Maintain 20k hands per month.
4. Post a hand at least once every week at FTR.
5. Be more active in this forum.

[ ] throw away skyrim so the small amount of free time I have can be spent on poker rather than that god dam amazing and ridiculously time consuming game that has become my life's sole priority.

Setting an easily attainable goal is a great way to achieve mediocrity.

I'm not much on making resolutions unless I have a realistic plan and a realistic chance to achieve them. So I really only have one, which is to get back to playing more than I have since RL circumstances led to cutting back last spring.

I can, but I haven't. It's been a long 2 years in my life. Turning things around in many ways, and getting back before a boon is one of those goals

1. Move up to 50NL in January
2. Stop being so lazy with poker and put some decent volume in each month
3. Study the game much more
4. Post more on here
5. Cut down on drinking, which should help with points 1-4

that is very true. i'm just personally wary of setting poker goals related to winnings. because i only played ~140k hands in a year last year. and variance can easily run the show over that small a sample.

Priority goal list
1) Finish applications to law schools (about 80% complete)
2) Get to 15% body fat (fuuu !luck, id be happy here :P)
3) Deposit and play pokers or get good at crapshoot live tournaments
4) learn chess, like actual chess with openings that have names and stuff

new macs are just expensive pcs anyway , can't you look on a Mac forum to see if you can just add an extra hard drive , stick windows on that drive and then dual boot into either mac or windows .....must work out cheaper than buying a new pc.

Well mine's a laptop I need for work else I would have done that already. What I need is a dedicated box if I am actually going to grind again as I need something capable of storing PT databases and that won't burn out after a couple of years. Also need a decent screen. Work laptop is not feasible as it is being destroyed by big work calculations pretty fast anyway and I can't spare the hard drive space.

I was only ever on 888 because my dad fancied a game, deposited there, played HU a bit then said, why don't you play on my account for a bit? I decided to enter a few MTTs, because I think you can play MTTs fine without HUD, and ended up binking a nice roll over a couple of hundred tournaments. Given nice roll I thought I'd play some cash again (Once upon a time I was beating 50NL over a decent sample), software tilted me, now I think I'll actually take up the grind if I can get the tools.

this is quite cheap ....just add windows. should be perfect as a grinding machine .....gaming machine would probably need a dedicated video card.

Cheers Keith. Thinking I can get a 2nd hand work machine, then buy a decent screen for it. After all, it just needs to be capable of storing a big database and have more than say 4GB ram to handle the tables + HUD in real time.

Laptops are immense for sitting in front of TV and playing a pair of MTTS, but so tilting multitabling cash with a track pad!
