Default Look at both ends of the equation!

I'm doing some equity training and it's opening my eyes to some very fundamental things. One big one that just stood out is the equity that AQs has against a villain (19vpip/15pfr/3.4af) which is between 65% and 68%. Sounds like a great number and it really is BUT if we look at it from the other end we loose 32% - 35% of the time. That's a substantial number as well.

Now to expand a little more on this if we look at TT against a similar villain we have 73% - 76% equity. Damn pockets sevens come in again against a similar villain at 64% - 67% damn near as good as AKs!!!

I know I for one way over play AKs and AKo!

    Just food for thought!

How can you say "xx" hand has "x %" equity vs a villain described by xx/xx/xx stats??? It makes absolutely no sense to me.

And you've confused me sir I'm sorry but what am I missing? Against this villains range you have a % of equity in the pot right?

    What I mean is:

    * What is villain range? It will not be the same depending on lots of factors i.e.: position, action before villains turn, people lef to act, a certain table dinamic, etc.

    * Even if you know villain´s range, your "pokerstove equity" is useful for all in situations. Your edge vs a particular villain comes from a lot of factors including your hot and cold equity vs his range, but there are many others really important, like position, post-flop skill, hand reading ability, etc.

I hope I made my point clear.

Ok I see what you mean and I knew when I started this it was going to be very general. I was merely trying to stress the point of looking at both ends of the equation and not really tearing a particular hand apart. I was aiming at a very limited basic beginner such as myself (longest, oldest beginner around ) who hasn't developed the other skills. I apologize for my generalization!

No need for apologies, I just wanted to say that our equity vs a villain´s range preflop is only one small piece of useful information to determine how to play against him, and not determinant on its own.
