And next week, they'll discover that alcohol consumption makes for a more reckless bet.

Surprising that they would print something so obvious. There must be a subtext somewhere. |

I was inclined to make all the above jokes also, but this is actually interesting.

I'll be honest. I just wanted to post my link in some thread and this worked out well. It is interesting as d0zer points out but I don't know, I guess I've noticed myself gamble a lot more when tired so I kind of already predicted this. Does seem like it should be the opposite.

as obvious as the conclusions of this study are, and how much we all laugh when we read this thread and think "duh". how many of us also put in sessions when we are in sub-optimal mental states - whether it be tired, bored, hungover, drunk, stoned, angry, depressed, frustrated etc etc. i'm certainly guilty of some of those.

I used to grind 60K hands of 6m while working full time and being a father. I played most of my sessions like this for a couple years.

As d0zer points out, the interesting thing is the kind of sub-optimal play that tiredness seems to induce. I guess it is just the "better make my money back quick so I can go to bed break-even for the day mindset" which gets people into trouble. I'm sure everyone has fallen into that trap before and gone on to become a better player after realising just how utterly stupid it is. It does take a while for beginners to realise that it doesn't matter how many hands you put in or whether you are up or down in a session as long as you are playing your best. Poker is a continuous game and your success is measured by the sum of all of your hands not just today's hands sooooo..... moral of the story is if you are losing.... urm.... go to bed? |
