Default How does my stats look?

    Hi

I have a big admiration to many of the members in this forum. There are some super players amongst you.

I'm not one of them, that's for sure, but I want to learn. I'll soon have to learn how to post hands in this forum. But until then, I ask how does my stats look? I'm no big cash player. I only play in the morning when I'm off work, and sometimes in the evening when not feeling to tired. I play NL10 mostly 6-man tables, but also full table on a Party Poker skin. The reason why I play is that I'm competing in a monthly rake race in a Danish Forum, where top 10 gets some money. There are not that many members, so even a little fish like me can compete for position 7-10 on that leaderboard, which gives me a little payout to start each month

Today I noted down my stats created by Holdem Indicator, and would like to know what they say about me, and what I should change:

    VPIP: 28
    PFR: 9
    3 Bet: 2/37

That is over 8400 hands. If more stats are needed I can give them, but I don't use the fancy programs like Poker Tracker, only Holdem Indicator, so it might be that your stats request is to big a task for that program

What would my range be with those stats? Any infos that can help me is appreciated

You've come to the right place if you're looking to improve and I'll have a go at kicking off this discussion.

I would say that it's worth investing 6-7 10nl buy-ins however in a better quality tracker, as you'll easily see a return on that investment at the tables. For instance, you can use the software to post hands easily on this forum using the Hand Converter option here and analyse your own game once you have a better understanding of the stats. You'll also potentially be able to use the HUD stats to exploit your opponents, but again, you'll need to have a good grasp at what the stats are telling you - I personally think a lot of players would be better off not running a HUD when they are starting out as it can be too easy to mis-interpret or be lazy and not generate any decent reads.

When it comes to reviewing stats, it's always worth noting that there are plenty of different ways to beat the games (e.g. I remember reading that Phil Ivey in his online prime used to play a game that generated what was widely regarded as sub-optimal stats). That said, the general consensus at 10nl is that playing a TAG game is going to be the most straight-forward way to crush the games and move up the stakes. If you don't know what thats is, then you definitely need to find out.

The stats you've provided are the basic pre-flop stats and I'm assuming you know their definitions. They indicate that you are a loose-passive player and the general consensus is that this isn't going to be a strong and winning style at any stake. The huge gap between your VPIP and PFR suggests you open limp and cold call a lot, but only open raise your stronger hands. There are a lot of reasons why this isn't a good thing and it's certainly difficult to make much money playing like this. Generally speaking, you want to have the initiative in a hand (i.e. by being the pre-flop raiser) and to be aggressive in good spots, but you'll also want to alter your game based on your position at the table. These aren't short discussions however, so I'd strongly recommend you read the stickies in this forum and get posting some hands - nobody will treat you like an idiot here as long as you have an attitude that is willing to learn!

I look for people with stats like yours to make money at the tables. You are limping and calling far too much and probably folding a ton as well on flops and turns.

If you start posting and maybe even read a ton of the strat threads you will see how better players are playing compared to you. Also what the bean counter said. There is a full sticky of hundreds of great threads that are better than most poker books to start with.

I know I've come to the right place. Of all the forums I'm following, it's here where I feel the highest quality of players are. Seriously.

I see what you both mean. I've just looked at Hold'em Indicator if it were possible to get my stats for the last 1000-2000 hands, as I feel I've begun correcting some of the mistakes you mention Bean Counter. I've started PFR more, especially on 6-Max tables, as I also do in 6-Max tournaments. Of course I have a better chance of being best with a marginal hand on a 6-Max table, therefore I've started PFR more lately. But I can't find a way for it to give me more recent stats

About Poker Tracker. I bought it many years ago, but dropped it again. It slowed down my computer, so it became annoying to play while having PT running I fear that this might still be the case, but then again, you can always put in your hands after the session, and not use it's HUD. Am I right about that? I could still use Hold'Em Indicator while playing, but make hands and analyses with Poker Trakcer after the session. That might be a good idea

Would someone according to those stats put some ranges on me? I like to see if they are somehow correct

Is there anywhere on the net or FTR a tread about what stats are what ranges? I've seen some players on here just by having the stats put people on ranges. Is that out of experience, or taken out of some kind of general formula?

I know I'm a better Tournament player than cash player. I think what is leading to those stats, and what my main problem is, is that in a tour I know how much it costs me when I start. It's not that simple when it comes to cash games.

Your overall PFR and VPIP will not give you a range because so much depends on position, previous actions and people to your left. If you are playing the same range from UTG as you are from the Button or the SB then you have a lot of work to do. Your range would really depend on all of these things. I would hope at least.

It would be better if you asked specific questions or posted some hands where you are unsure if the play was right. Foir example. You don't raise enough. Post a few hands where you open limped or called a raise in position without a pocket pair. Explain why

If you had pokertracker a long time ago thats implying that its PT3 or earlier. Support for PT3 is due to cease at the end of july so that once hand history formats alter it will become useless and force you to update to the latest versions. PT4 and HEM2 are more processor intensive than predecessors so may require a computer upgrade. I think that the discounted upgrades finished earlier in the year but you should be able to get a months trial of both HEM2 and PT4. you could also try to get a trial of the HM cloud which tries to alleviate the strain on the computer .

Thanks for the information. I'll try a free trial of both, and see which one is better for my PC. I'll then soon post some hands I hope

I used HEM2 on a 5-year old laptop that was decent spec when I bought it. HEM2 takes 10-15 minutes to boot up with a small database of hands but runs fine with Pokerstars once running as long as I'm not trying to do anything else on my laptop at the time. ipoker doesn't run so well though and I doubt the other smaller networks also run pretty slowly on an older computer - it's definitely a good idea that you are trying this software first before you buy it!

Pokerstove or equilab. You can plug in stats and it will give you a general idea of what 28% of starting hands look like. It will differ between players but you can play around with it. 28% could be 55+, A2s+, K5s+, Q7s+, J8s+, T8s+, 98s, A7o+, K9o+, Q9o+, J9o+. Or it could be more like 22+, A2s+, K9s+, Q9s+, J9s+, T8s+, 98s, 87s, 76s, 65s, A4o+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo.

    9% could be like 88+, ATs+, KTs+, QJs, AJo+, KQo. Etc...
