You don't. You put your opponent on a range of possible hands.

When you go to the flop with your stack being just 1.1 times the size of the pot, you will not be able to narrow villain's range down to just a set. You will preeeeeettty much always be stacking off with top-pair-top-kicker.

Poker is a game of incomplete information, and as such, you will sometimes lose hands.

Maybe i was just unlucky there but do you think that was the right play or should i have raised 3 times his bet before the flop?

That would depend on the CO villain. Does he steal from CO a lot? Does he raise often, or almost never? Would he call a 3-bet with only AA or KK, or would he do it with 76 suited? Does he typically fold to 3-bets?

Your read makes a difference on whether a min-raise, a 3 times bet, or even a call or a fold would be best. If Villain never ever raises except for AA and KK, then you would want to fold.

It's best to the start from the beginning. Try answering this question:

    1. When he first raises, what range of hands do you think he could have?
