    Default Any Rush players?

I play Rush, so table selection is generally a non-issue. However, I sometimes choose not to play if there is a red-pro at my game. They do play at the micros from time to time.

I was about to start up a session of 50nl FR just now, until I noticed a red pro 4-tabling it. To my surprise, it was Hal Lubarsky. He was also playing 2 tables of 50nl 6-max Rush.

Rush tables are a lot faster than regular tables. You get about 250 hands per hour per table. I usually 3-table. I can handle 4 at the most, but that's pushing it. It just blows my mind that a blind man can 6-table Rush.

Anyone can 6-table at rush. They'd just lose a lot of money though. LOL

It's not much different from 16-tabling regular tables, and plenty of people can do that profitably.

I played a bunch of Rush when it first hit, killed the game and cashed out. Haven't played since and I honestly can't see myself going back to it.

People at 2p2 are laughing at me for avoiding red pros, since most of them suck apparently.

Have you seen his PTR? It's not good.

How can blind people play? I guess there's special software accomodations. It would seem really hard to take in all that information aurally, but if you have, you have to.

I really like Rush. I play one table, sometimes two. It's the perfect speed. You can get in alot of hands, you're always involved in a hand but still able to take notes on people. After a couple days you have stats on all the regs. And there's always fish coming and going. I also like how easy it is to sit out and rejoin the table, even if it's for only one hand while you take a note.

There are advantages and drawbacks to Rush. A lot of people who don't like Rush will focus on things such as lack of table dynamic, reg-to-fish ratio, stunting your development, lack of reads, and inability to table select. The obvious inherent advantage to rush is sheer volume. It's a lot easier to to play 3 or 4 tables of Rush than it is to play dozens of regular tables. You don't have to worry about tables breaking up. You can start and end sessions very quickly without any delays.

There is another, lesser known advantage to Rush, but before I mention it let me digress for a bit about reciprocality. This is a word Tommy Angelo made up to describe doing things differently than your opponents. When you and your opponents do certain things exactly the same, there is no edge. When you are doing something different, one of you has the advantage and the other is at a disadvantage. Obvious, right?

At Rush, I believe that hardly anybody is taking notes (this may not be the case at higher stakes). I'm sure a lot of regs are using HUDs, but that's it. It's just a lot harder to take notes at Rush because you don't watch hands that you're not involved in. Even if you are involved in a hand and pick up on something, you have to take that note before you're whisked away to a new table, which isn't always possible. There are little things that are easy to pick up on at regular tables because you're constantly seated with the same opponents, that are much harder to see at Rush because everyone is moving around.

That might sound like a disadvantage. But I think you can actually turn that into a huge advantage. You can take good notes at Rush if you put in a little extra effort. You can keep the hand replayer open during a session and review hands that you weren't present for. If a big hand is going down and you're going to fold, you can sit out and watch what happens. You can even go through your HEM/PT3 database and look for reads on the biggest regs between sessions.

If you take notes at Rush, and virtually nobody else is doing it, then you have a massive reciprocal advantage. This is something that I admittedly need to work on.

Notes are about 5000x easier at Rush if you use the notes feature on a HUD

How so? I use HEM, and the HUD switches over to the new players as soon you move tables. This makes things difficult sometimes. Example: you're playing a hand heads up, you make a bet, and the opponent folds. You now have about 1 second to click on the notebox before it changes.

I explored the possibility of using HEM's hand replayer for note taking. This would have been nice because you could also look into very detailed stats on certain regs between sessions and take notes. Unfortunately, there's no way to navigate to notes from the hand replayer. It would be very useful if you could just double-click a players name and be taken to his notes, but you can't.

However, FTP's hand replayer does have the functionality to write notes on players. It's a very nice way of doing things. Just leave some open space on your monitor and look through interesting hands when there's no action to you.

With a format like Rush, what is the tightest range you can play to be profitable? Can you play only AA/KK and beat the blinds? I'm imagining many tables...

Idk, probably profitable but not optimal. You can only have 4 tables open per 'Rush Pool'.

Why would you think that Rush is a good format for doing that? That's the sort of adjustment you would make for an extremely loose/bad dynamic. If anything, I think Rush plays a bit tighter than usual. Maybe that could work at 5nl, but anything above that and the blinds will eat you alive.

I think a big key to beating Rush is exploiting the bad robotic regs. Due to the nature of the game, the player pool typically has a higher reg:fish ratio. Most fish will only play 1 or 2 tables, whereas the regs will play 3 or 4, so the pool gets more saturated. There are a lot of extremely nitty guys 4-tabling, probably thinking that they eek out a higher hourly and lower their variance since they get so much volume. Maybe they do alright at it, but those guys are easy to exploit, even by people like me who aren't great at poker.

This is different from regular ring game how? Do you mean to say ring games don't have the same issue, where regs play many tables and the fish play only a few?

By the way, if you think you're not great at poker then why are you playing 50s

After giving it some more thought, I think you're right. At normal tables regs are multitabling way more, so those games are saturated too. And playing one table of full ring Rush is the equivalent of playing 4 regular tables, which is more than a lot of fish would normally play. So the ratio might actually be more desirable at Rush.

I'm playing 50nl because I beat 25nl FR at a good clip over a decent sample, and I'm rolled for 50nl. It seems like the logical thing to do. I don't think 50nl is very tough, but if I can't beat it for whatever reason, I can always move back down.

ok, on to the next question, then: How the hell are we supposed to pronounce your name? I've been sort of mentally pronouncing it 'grine-ydrowave', rhyming with microwave. This doesn't make a great deal of sense however. I am very tilted by this.

Yeah, sorry about that. It's a handle I came up with when I was about 13 years old. I originally wanted the name GreenHydroWave because I thought it sounded awesome at the time. Whatever I was registering for had a character limit, and I was stubborn and uncreative, so I condensed it into grnydrowave. I continued using it for username logins out of habit. I was about 18 when I registered at FTR, so I guess I was still in that habit.

I wish I could change the name, but as I recall, the mods here at FTR clamped down on that a long time ago.

To tell the truth, it's more that I don't like it than having problems with work, although the company policy forbids drugs and gambling alike.

How 'bout changing yours as well?

    1) I like my name.
    2) Philippines and Saudi Arabia are backwards countries. No longer surprised regarding your employer not approving of microstakes poker play. Whatever, personal freedoms are overrated anyway.

Inb4 lock, btw, pretty sure we're not talking about rush poker anymore.

Just to make a point, Philippines is not a "backward" country and on many aspects Western countries have a lot to learn from the Filipino people.

Totally agreed concerning Saudi Arabia though. And it's not statically backward, it's in full reverse.

The reason mods stopped granting nick changes, as I recall, is because other people kept saying "oh, I want a change too" and it got out of control. lol
