    Default PartyPoker 5/10

I have been playing limit Hold'em on PartyPoker on and off for about 2 months now. I haven't been taking good records, I don't use PokerTracker, and haven't been paying attention to the number of hands I've played. From last Thursday to Monday, I was up more than $900 playing 5/10 on PartyPoker. Since Monday, I am down $1050 playing 5/10. I have been playing about 3 hours/day. I have been playing the top ten hands plus KQ, pocket pairs, Ax suited. For the first couple days, when I was up, the system was working great. It's a very tight system, but it seemed to work very well. Then, Tuesday, it fell apart when I lost on many top ten hands over and over again.

Am I just experiencing really bad variance?

I have been reading the FTR forums for a couple days now. A lot of the concepts I understand, some I don't.

First, what is a reasonable rate of profit (#BB/100)? What rates do you guys make? What rate would a pro make? What should your rate be to move up a level?

For the first couple days of my 5/10 experience, I could estimate I was making about $70/hour, or 7BB/hour.

Should I even be playing PP 5/10?

What do you think about this situation that has left me $10 in the hole after being up so much?

The the 5/10 level, a 1bb/100 hands is a reasonable rate of profit. Anything more would be doing pretty well. I only have 2k hands at 5/10 so far and cannot give you a real winrate. A pro would beat this game for 2/100 or so, after playing it and watching how loose the 15/30 and 30/60 is, I beleive that it is tougher to extract money out at this level. 7bb/100 is not possible, even at .5/1. I would recommend dropping to 2/4 for a while, and work on the other parts of your game. %/10 is a lot more heads up play, and playing your blinds well becomes vital. 2/4 is fishy, and you can hone the rest of your game while you learn. BTW, to play 5/10 you need at least a 3k bankroll. If you dont have that, I would step down so you dont go broke. Go to 2/4, buy pokertracker, post hand histories, and then work your way back up to the 5/10 level. Oh yea, as everyone and their dog says......buy small stakes holdem by ed miller. Either way, good luck and welcome to ftr.

Oh, yea, jeff plays mostly 5/10, he'll chime in and give you a better analysis of the game.

    Thank you.

    More:
Is it normal to have an 80BB + swing in one two-hour session?

    Yes, Jeff help me.

It happens, I have had several 100bb swings. The hiigher level you play, the more variance you have. Hell, yesterday I was down 40bb after about 80 hands, it is part of the game. Are you playing more than one table?

Usually, I play one table. Every once in a while I would two-table.

Clarification: You made 10BB/hr on PP 5/10?
    What do you play nowadays?
How do I determine whether a table is loose or not, average pot size?
How loose did you play in these 5/10 tables?

    Thanks!

7bb per 100 is NOT a sustainable win rate at .5/1. The best I have ever seen is about 4.5 with a 150k hand sample size. With the rake structure the way it is, you cannot make 7bb/100, 10/100 is laughable.

How can this all be possible. Up 90BB in about 12 hours, then down 125BB in the next 8 hours?

Welcome to the world of limit holdem. If you cant handle the swings emotionally, move to a lower limit.

just to second what trikflow has already said, BB/hr or BB/100 over the long run is how you determine if youre a profitable player or not. if youre down over 1000 and youre thinking, "damn i just lost a grand", then youre thinking too much about the money and its clouding correct poker decisions. it hurts emotionally, but netting a 35BB loss over a 20 hour period is definately within reason and part of limit holdem.

Thank you for the responses. At this point, should I play 5/10 until I get another upswing, THEN move down to 2/4, or should I move down to 2/4 immediately?

LMAO. You seriously should move all the way down to .5/1. If you need to play a system like that, it's clear you don't understand this game at the level you need to in order to beat thinking opponents.

You are the fish in the Party 5/10 game.

    no he should play 2/4

I am going to play only PartyPoker 2/4 now.

What BB/100 am I shooting for?

1BB/100 is beating the game. If you're a winning player then be happy.

Instead focus on playing each hand to the best of your ability and the money will follow.
