Default The Future Of Live Poker?

Does anyone here think poker will get more and more unpopular to the point where there are going to be rarely much fish at the table? Now we see there definitely aren't as bad players anymore like it use to be but does anyone think there is a chance the live games can get so bad where even the worst players aren't that that horrible?

Such as sure that guy is horrible and way too loose but he plays super aggressive like a maniac? Obviously a table full of loose passive players is the best.

Also do you guys think in the future, that any game might surpass no limit holdem? We hear about the oh pot limit omaha is the game of the future but when you look at the casinos, rarely does pLO even run ever. And if it does, rarely is it more than 1 table or 2.

I know back then before NL holdem exploded on tv and the casinos, the main games were limit holdem and stud.

Also we see games like that rarely go unless its at the commerce etc.

Do any live pros here wonder if the games might not be there anymore?

I can't speak for live, but those are good questions for online play too. IMO you definitely have a better educated player base, fewer classic fish, and more taggy players at all levels, even the nanos, largely due to online instruction, videos, etc. But I don't think the average player is really any better even though they have learned to not be grossly bad. Poker is a very complex game, and there will always be large edges for the players willing to work on their game. It'll never be like Party Poker but the games are still very beatable. Personally I don't think the education is a bad thing.

I know this is an older topic but I'm new to the forum, so just saw this. At my local casino, Friday and Saturday nights are still RIPE with fish. One of the casinos are near numerous ballparks, night clubs, striplclubs, etc, and you get tons of drunks pouring in on the weekend as part of their partying. Ideally you get a few drunks at your table with the regs, and the regs seem to take turns beating up on the drunks. I'm not a great player, pretty new, still learning, and have gotten pretty good at identifying the players I want to tangle with. I find I try to go on the weekends to make money and I try to go through the week to grind more, learn, and improve my game.

Now, we have another casino more in the suburbs, and that one is a bit tougher. You can get some soft action on weekends but on weeknights I've ran into some pretty tough regs.

I feel like poker has reached a popularity level where it will be around for a long time although the game will continue to evolve and those that dont evolve with it will end up losing. That being said I also think that the level of skill for the average player will go substantially down if America legalizes online poker at an international level. The huge increase in skill level seemed to happen after the UIGEA when it became hard to deposit and withdraw money which is a huge downfall to casual players.

I've always felt a smart poker player needs to be playing when he is most likely to make money. This is usually when the normal 9am to 5pm stiff do not work. So early evenings, weekends, and holidays are probably the best times to be padding the bankroll.

I don't know about you folks venues but here in the DMV(Wash, Maryland, Virginia) area we have casinos with all the games, and I mean ALL type action and there is always a waiting list at night and weekends. Casinos are thriving and action is a plenty!! Plus I love looking into the eyes of my opponents. Makes my POKER MORE REAL!!! Just my opinion!!
What MUST be, most surely SHALL be!!

Not everyone is comfortable playing for their money online so this market will always be playing live.

I believe live poker will pick up steam in the coming months and years. There have been several positive turnouts in recent events, including the EPT Barcelona Main Event, which turned out to be the third largest EPT Main Event ever held in Europe.

There's also some excited whispers going around in the industry about the potential impact of the "Double Bubble" format to be implemented in two events at next year's PokerStars PCA (half of the tournament field gets refund, then remaining players compete for top prize pool that will pay out at 8% or that field, or 16% of total entrants).

These are just my opinions though, and anything is possible.
